Fantastic Four 2 Gets a Title Change?

20th Century Fox have confirmed for us that although rumors of a title change are swirling around the net currently no official movie title has been chosen for Fantastic Four 2 yet. Fox Marketing are using the title of Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer to get word around on the new movie.

Hmmmm, good i wasn't too happy with FF & TSS as the title.

I agree with someone who posted above just go with "Fantastic Four 4 II"

:p I posted that a while ago. I also posted somewhere in here that Ralph Winter confirmed it wasn't the title either. I haven't got around to posting that on the site yet though.
I'll be posting this on my site in a mo, but I thought I would post it here first. Ralph (Winter) has given me permission to post the following, which was in response to me asking him whether or not this title was the official movie title:

"Not an official title yet. That is all about marketing at this point, not necessarily the movie. Everything has long lead times."

Take from that what you will, but it clearly indicates that this is not the movie title at this stage, despite other people reporting that it is. I think as people have pointed out that the title is too much of a mouthful to actually be used.

I'm slow sometimes....;)

I'm happy to see that they are realizing that "Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer" is too long a title. Something simple along the lines of "Return of the Fantastic Four" would be so much better.

No offense, but I hate "Return of the Fantastic Four" too.

I don't think it's a case of "realizing" that the name wasn't good - it was never intended as the title, and people jumped the gun a bit when the news came out. It's really just a promotional placeholder, and I don't think they're anywhere near confirming a title at this stage anyways.

"Not an official title yet." Notice the "yet". Fantastic Four and The Silver Surfer could be the official title when all is said and done. It won't surprise me if it is. It's not an elegant title. Hell, it's downright clunky, but it has knock-them-over-head marketing power, however unsubtle it is. Silver Surfer being in the mix is going to be the big new draw card for this film - putting him front and centre in the title makes sense.

but most people who don't read the comics won't know what or who a Silver Surfer is.

The same could have been said for the F4 the first time around.....marketing is the key....they did an excellent job in the area of marketing...IMO....and if they continue....people will know who the SS is before June 2007.

I would be happy with Fantastic Four 2. Spider-man doesn't need all these subtitles and it has done great (I am not a huge fan but recognise its success). They don't feel the need to push the villians in the title, or else it would be Spiderman vs Venon. I don't think mentioning SS in the title is gonna pull loads more people into theaters, seeing him in a trailer is more likely going to do that.

Silver Surfer is a highly saleable concept. He's intriguing, eye-catching, cool, mysterious. Putting him front and center in the marketing campaign will help draw in the general public even if they have no prior knowledge of him, and it'll also play a crucial part in drawing in genre fans who do know who he is. There's a sizable segment of genre fandom who didn't like the first film but who'll turn out to see the next one to see the Silver Surfer.

They should use Silver Surfer the same way TPM used Darth Maul,as a cool and mysterious enemy of unknown origin and visual awesomess:O

He could be played like that in the first half of the film, but then they presumably have to get to know him and convince him to join the light side of the force.

Maybe Fox will finally wise up (we can dream, can't we?) and it will be Fantastic 4: Doomsday.

you're correct, what i meant to say was use him in the trailers as this mysterious kickass guy the F4 must go up aginst in the way TPM used Darth Maul

Oh yeah! This movie has some great potential. I just hope they can make something that's close to as good as it could be.

It's the perfect title, especially if Dr.Doom and Galactus are both in it.
I'd go so far as to say it's a no-brainer, even.

However I do think they should go all the way, add the numeral and just call it "Fantastic Four 2: Doomsday." The numerals haven't hurt the Spider-man franchise whatsoever, and five years down the line it would be nice if casual dvd buyers could tell in what order they should watch the films.
To this day I still get confused about the proper order of the 90's Batman films.

Well they go something like this.

Batman
Batman Returns
Batman Forever
Batman & Robin

I don't have a problem remembering the first two. But when the franchise started going off the tracks, I just kinda blocked them out after seeing them once. Even now, numerical titles would help me buy them in the right order for my kids, as I suspect it would for many other casual buyers.
