The sequel to summer hit Fast & Furious 6, which scored the best worldwide opening in Universal’s history, continues to add actors who are new to the franchise. The latest to join the Fast & Furious 7 cast are Kurt Russell, who weeks ago had been said to be talks for a role, and John Brotherton. Vin Diesel confirmed Russell’s casting in a Facebook post complete with a photo — the Fast & Furious veteran’s page has nearly 48 million likes — but there are no details on his character. Sources tell Deadline that Brotherton, whose credits include The Conjuring, Jane By Design and One Life To Live, will play Sheppard, who’s described as the Russell character’s right-hand man. Russell — whose five-decade career includes such films as Escape From New York, Backdraft, Stargate and Grindhouse — next appears in the western Bone Tomahawk. James Wan’s Fast & Furious 7 is shooting in Atlanta with Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Lucas Black and franchise rookies including Jason Statham and Djimon Hounsou.

The Kurt Russell news was confirmed weeks ago.

You maybe have something there. Brothers? And Russell is their father? An ex street racer who get caught by his son (Walker) back in the days. And now he need his help and his brother's. Remember Walker talking about his father in Fast Five, how absent he was?

Since 'family' and 'revenge' will be the main theme for this movie it makes sense.

Unless they change the script, Russell is not Brian's father. He is playing a part that was originally offered to Denzel.

I want to see a buff older guy go toe-to-toe with Vinnie D.

I remember the role of Hobbs was originally written with an older actor in mind, and while I love what DJ brought to the franchise, I think Stephen Lang in Avatar mode would have been absolutely amazing.

Hobbs was written with one actor specifically in mind, Tommy Lee Jones. Then, a fan told the director that there should be a character that could go toe to toe with Vin Diesel, so he changed it and cast The Rock. That's the story that I heard.

In a parallel universe, it would have been awesome to see Jones as Hobbs. With that said, I am glad it was Johnson. Not only did there need to be a physical equal to Diesel, but Johnson needed that role. It's essentially his most popular role to date.

I was thinking about something, in the latest films Dominic always drives an american car/muscle car if he can and in Furious 6 he even gives Brian crap for driving imports and such. So I wonder why in the hell was he driving a Mazda in the first movie? As well as Honda.
If my memory serves me correct that is the only time he's not driving a muscle car.

Dom drove the Charger at the very end of the first movie in the climatic race against Brian at the train tracks. Anyway, a lot of people speculated that Dom was probably into imports at first basically because the illegal racing scene in Los Angeles was import racing. A lot people felt that once he got behind the wheel of the Charger at the end of the movie, it "changed" him. Something clicked. It's almost like a mini-arc of the character within itself.
