Favorite Batman Story

Hard to narrow it down.... the closest I can get is to say any of the Denny O'Neil/Neal Adams Ra's al Ghul stories in the 70's.

My Top Ten....
1.) The Steve Englehart-Marshall Rogers run in Detective Comics from 1977- 1978.
2.) Batman: Year One
3.) Batman: Hush
4.) Batman: Face The Face
5.) Batman: The Long Halloween
6.) Batman: Dark Detective
7.) Batman vs. The Vampire (1939 vs. Monk)
8.) Half an Evil ( Two-Face story by O'Neil, Adams, Giordano)
9.) To Kill A Legend By Alan Brennert and Dick Giordano)
10.) Batman vs. The Joker ( spring 1940)

I loved everything he has appeared in except for Nightwing OYL.
Yeah, DC made the same mistake with him that they made with Hush; took a well-written character from a good story, and handed him over to a bad writer who does/did little more than run the character into the ground.

That's what everyone's said. I downloaded 'em. I really gotta read them and see just how crappy they are.

Nightwing OYL? I was extremely dissapointed in what became of Jason in that arc. :( :down

Y'know, I can understand the title being crappy for a while cause DC was planning on killing Dick in the Crisis, but to screw over Jason too...it's just stupidness.

I've heard a lil bit here and there about DC wanting to kill of Dick in IC...what is that all about?

What happened to Jason in the Nightwing OYL arc? Did he die or something?

Well, if you don't mind me spoiling...

Jason mimicked Dick by wearing a Nightwing suit and proclaiming to be him. Big problem is that he goes around killing crooks and stuff thus giving Dick a bad name. Even worse is that all he is doing is trying to piss Dick off...a big change from his badass and more professional role as Red Hood back in Gotham. Thus, we are pissed.

Yeah.

It's kinda like Hush, I thought. A great use of the character in his debut run....and then it's handed off to some other writer who runs the character, and every other story, right into the ground.

loeb is a really good writer, he hasn't done anything i don't like(other than dark victory). if they kept him on and let take hush whereever i think it would have been better than what happened.

Same for the guy who brought Jason back.

I've got a few quick questions, and didn't feel like I needed to make another thread:

1. What is the official origin for Robin: Dark Victory, or Robin Year One? (I haven't read RYO, so is it even an origin, or just the events after DV?)

2. Is Nightwing Year One the official tale of Dick leaving Bruce and assuming the Nightwing persona?

I don't know about official, but Robin Year One takes place after Dark Victory. We see Bruce take Dick in during Dark Victory and he put his costume on for the first time at the end. The Gauntlet follows DV with Robin's final trial. This leads into R:YO. That story doesn't feature his origin as such, just his first few adventures.

The only annoyance is the change in Gordon's position. All the books I've read seem to go in a clear order, and we see Gordon go from Captain to Lieutenant to Commissioner gradually. Dark Victory ignores all this and makes him Commissioner in that story. I like to think it's just a temporary role and he goes back to Captain after.

As anadinseawater said, Robin: Year One and Dark Victory don't contradict each other. However, there is a Robin: Year One Anual that features Dick's origin. Unfortunately, I've yet to read it, so I can't say if it clashes with DV.

Yes.

Well...in Did Robin Die Tonight is when Dick actually leaves Bruce; or at least stops being Robin which would lead to Nightwing Year One I guess. I haven't read Nightwing Year One but I plan on it.

I haven't read Did Robin Die Tonight, but what you described is also in Nightwing: Year One. I dunno which has precedence over the other, though - probably N:YO.

Did Robin Die Tonight is how and why Dick stopped being Robin and how Jason became Robin.

One of my favorite Batman stories is just a one issue, simple tale called "Crash and Burn", about two bank robbers, a guy and a girl, who are on a destructive, suicidal run to Gotham that starts off in Florida.

It was the second Batman comic I ever bought when I first started collecting in the summer of 92 when Batman Returns came out.

So it has sentimental value, every time I read it I'm reminded of that year and watching BR all summer.

And it's just a nice little story. It features my favorite Bat-artist aswell, The Late, Great...JIM APARO.:)
