I would like to see the views from a thread that isn't biased, so asking which Spidey film is the best in the Marvel Films area is the perfect place to do such.

So, which is your favorite so far?

Spider-Man?

Edit: I didn't set the poll closing time for 2013, can a mod fix it?

2.

Nearly ten years later it's still my favourite ever comic book movie.

1 is pretty good. It's the only movie I actually liked Mary Jane in of the trilogy.

3 embarrasses me, but Harry seriously, seriously rocks in it.

But I absolutely love 2 and Amazing.

2 mostly for how brilliantly they re-invented Ock and created a classic, epic tangle between them and some sense of mentorship, and that train-stopping scene? Come onnn.

And Amazing for how well they created an interesting, sympathetic, more relevant Doc Connors that has more to do with Peter - even functioning as a semi-parental figure, and defending him from Oscorp despite his position in the end. But more importantly, for how well they wrote every character (particularly Gwen/Peter) compared to Raimi's portrayals.

I think the writing/portrayals/chemistry in Amazing give it the edge for me. That -was- Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and as much as I loved 2, Tobey's version just didn't fully capture the right energy. I also think the action is more fluid, creative, and intense. There were a ton of clever or funny scenes - the sorts of things that were absent from 2 that as a fan were important for me. The bit where Spidey creates a web in the sewers down all the pipes, playing games on his phone while he waits. All the smooth, hilarious quips. Awesome.

There's also a line flub regarding Ock's perception of responsibility in 2 that hurts repeat viewings for me.

Early in the movie, he and Peter have this great moment where Octavius expresses his philosophy, but later on when Peter brings this back up to him during the climax, he mixes the line up and ends up stating the opposite -- but it's as if he doesn't realize he's reading the line wrong and they left it in anyway (because it was still wonderfully delivered).

It's just one line, but the believability of the character's philosophy is compromised by it, the suspension of disbelief is broken, and I can't watch the film without being distracted by that. So close to being a flawlessly written re-invention. :(

Ranked:
Spidey 1
Amazing Spidey
Spidey 2
Spidey 3

I honestly find Spidey 2 just as embarrassing as 3. I dont quite see what others do

1. Spider-Man 2
2. Spider-Man
3. The Amazing Spider-Man
4. Spider-Man 3

Since we're doing lists:

1 - The Amazing Spider-Man
2 - Spider-Man 2
3 - Spider-Man
4 - Spider-Man 3

I dunno what's embarrassing about 2 that isn't embarrassing about 1. They're pretty much balanced as far as that goes - and it's not a level that's offensive, as we see with 3. I'm fine with it.

In other words, would you mind elaborating?

Amazing Spider-Man

While I find Spidey1 barely acceptable and Spidey2 is actually about as good as ASM(but for different reasons, mainly a more cohesive story) SM3 is purely horrible. But the reason I give ASM the slight edge over SM2 is that ASM finally is devoid of that irritating Raimi goofiness and cheese. Sometimes cheese can be good(see Rocketeer & CATFA...or was that corniness there, I dunno) but when Raimi did it all 3 times it just stunk like cheese that had been left on the radiator all winter. SM1 & 2 had enough else in them to offset this factor(SM1 barely as I said) but it's presence ensured that NONE of those Spidey films attained any level of greatness IMO. ASM could have been great but the story wasn't consistenly strong throughout and the villain while decent enough left me wanting more from him than a generic bad guy plot. So..

1)ASM - 7.5/10
2)SM2 - 7.25/10
3)SM1 - 6/10
4)SM3 - 4.5/10

At the end of the day I'd say we still have yet to see a truly AMAZING Spider-Man film.

Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man
Spider-Man 3
The Amazing Spider-Man

Why do I rank TASM lower than SM3? Six words: "Those promises are the best kind."

I hated Dr. Octopus being really slick and cool and I hated that he was superstrong for some reason. And the idea that he was just a good guy being controlled by the Octopus arms. I hated pretty much everything having to do with Kirsten Dunst including the on-again, off-again love proclamations. The romance was so awkward and boring. I hate the Russian landlord and most attempts to inject silly one off characters that werent as funny as they wanted them to be. Overall, I wasn't really impressed with Tobey as Peter. The psychosomatic power loss had a lot of wasted potential. The Rainsdrops keep falling on my head sequence was almost as painful to watch as emo-Peter. A lot of the acting seemed to lack a lot of sincerity and the attempts at humor fell flat to me.

I hated that Molina's Ock was basically just Kurt Conners/Lizard with a different name and gimmick. Ock is SUPPOSED to be a megalomaniac type villain. Sympathy is not his thing.

Spider-Man: 8/10
Spider-Man 2: 9/10
Spider-Man 3: 6/10
The Amazing Spider-Man: 5/10

SM2 is definitely a step above the others. One of the top five superhero films ever. Spider-Man could have been as good, but it lets down in the second act after a fantastic origin sequence. It has a great first act, then not much happens, and then a great third act. Spider-Man 3 was what I like to call an ambitious failure. It tried to do too much and the plot ended up collapsing, but there is some legitimately great stuff there in the piled rubble. TASM has some good action scenes and performances, but completely screws up the Spider-Man character and is overall a pretty soulless film that seems like something a board of directors would come up with rather than a true auteur.

SM2 Hands down. The story, the action, everything was just awesome. Got a standing ovation in the theatre .

1. Spider-man 9.5/10 -I love the first film. Love it. The only issue I have with it is Green Goblin's costume(which doesn't bother me like it bothers others to begin with) and that the cgi looks kind of aged but other than that, it works on almost every level. I love Dafoe as GG. That's an underated villain performance if ever i saw one.

2. Spider-man 2 9/10-Spidey 2 is pretty great but what makes it a lesser film than the first for me is the whole storyline about Peter losing his confidence which somehow makes him not be able to fire webbing or..whatever the hell was going on. I also didn't like how Octopus dissappear for a large chunk of the film after the bank fight. Spidey 2 has a great first act, an amazing 3rd(the train and clock tower are some of the best superhero movie fights of all time), but for me, a meh middle.

3. Spider-man 3 8.5/10-I don't dislike it like many do. It's a bit of a letdown but it's still very entertaining. I think Venom should've been saved for a part 4 instead of shoehorning him into 3. It's one of those films that starts off great and about halfway through it just loses it's footing. And the first major fight(Harry vs. Peter) and the amnesia...don't work at all. That fight is overreliant on cgi to the point of not looking real at all and the amnesia is just well...stupid.

4. Amazing spider-man 7.25/10- It's not a terrible movie but it's a terrible spider-man movie. THAT is not my Peter Parker. He's not awkward, he's actually pretty normal and I don't like that. I hate the skateboarding. I hated how Peter was constantly not caring much about what Ben and May had to say. In the first Raimi movie, I felt like Peter was just having a disagreement with Uncle Ben but here I felt like Peter genuinely didn't respect him, and I hated that. Then the fact that the killer just gets away..ick. And all this crud about Peter's father, I just didn't care. To top it off, the film is dull in general. It has it's moments but it's by far the worst spider-man film.

TASM.

I'm one of "those" who never cared for Raimi's version of the characters, though I still completely love Spidey 2 for the action and exhilaration factor, and just the fact that it's a well-made superhero movie. But TASM is much closer to the version of Parker/Spidey that I've always wanted to see on screen, and if the sequel can improve on that as much as SM2 improved on SM1, then it could potentially be right up there with Avengers and TDK as my favorite superhero flick.

TASM - 7.8
Great film! It's unfortunate that the likes of TDK trilogy, Iron Man, TIH and Avengers set the bar so high.

Spider-Man 1 - 7.5
Honestly back in the day it was awesome, but the CG has NOT aged well, and the dialogue is VERY poorly written - also factor in the fact that Spidey barely has any quips. Dafoe was unreal though!!!

Spider-Man 2 - 6.8
An alright film, but the cheesy writing gets worse. It's annoying, because the themes in the film are fantastic, but the dialogue continues to worsen after the first one. And that "raindrops are fallen" sequence was ridiculous...

Spider-Man 3 - 5.8
Again, the themes get so much more deep, but the writing becomes chaotic. All over the place. WTF genre is this!? This film opened my eyes to the imperfections of the first two.

Spider-Man 2.

I can't believe that TASM has more votes than Spider-Man 1. Ye Gods, people.

^I can't believe SM2 is winning this poll. And ASM is waaaay better than SM1.

I just watched SM2 recently again, its just soo awesome!! Storyline, character development, villain is near perfect!

Also I loved hoey did the webbing on the costume in the OT...

ASM Was entertaining, but it hit too many of the same exact plot points like the first film, when they really didn't have to.
I'm looking forward to the next Spidey film, hoping that it will be spectacular!

Spider-man 2 is a real Spider-man movie. None of this "Help! Someone move some cranes around so I can get to the baddy".

Amazing Spider-man. It's what makes your generation weak. :oldrazz:

Obviously I would have to go with 'The Amazing Spider-man'.

Definitely Spider-Man 2.

Great storyline, terrific villain, amazing action scenes, excellent support cast, and a strong heartfelt performance from Tobey.

I hated pretty much everything having to do with Kirsten Dunst including the on-again, off-again love proclamations. The romance was so awkward and boring.

Disagree with the severity of your other complaints, but I'm totally with you here. It was atrocious. It wasn't MJ. At all.

You pretty much nailed it for me, as far as order and likes/dislikes.

I love Garfield 10x better than Mopey Maguire.
I love Emma-Gwen 10x better than Kirsten-MJ.
I love the first half of TASM more than any other Spidey movie out there.
But The Lizard flat-out sucked ass, and made the second half unwatchable.

I had to say Spidey 2, then, is my favorite, for the right balance between hero and villain, story and action. I think TASM2 is going to have much better villains, a stronger story, and will wind up the best Spidey ever put to film.
