I voted for Superman, but I suspect that's due to nostalgia and an absolute love and respect for Reeve's performance.

However, of the modern era (say, post 2000) I can see why Batman Begins takes this - although Iron Man is a very, very close contender and Dr Strange isn't too far off.

Great picks, DACrowe. I love all your choices. In addition, I also really like the first X-Men film in the original trilogy, and the first Captain America movie.

I don't see that movie ever being bested to come after the batman and robin fiasco no less

Iron Man would be my second choice

Batman Begins

How is Batman 89' a origin movie? He's already Batman when the movie starts

Batman Begins

I included it as there are flashback scenes to the key moments of his youth and death of parents, thus being a form of origin.

Deadpool. Bat**** crazy... yet relateable. He doesn't have some moral epiphany and want to be a hero. He finally finds the love of his life... But gets terminal cancer. Takes a huge risk so he can be with the woman he loves without her watching him rot away... But is tricked into being a human lab rat then enslaved.

So he uses his new found powers not for altruism... But to murder the c*** who ruined his face.

It's beautiful.

I am torn between Batman Begins and Iron Man.
I think Iron Man holds up better over time but there is a masterpiece in Batman Begins under the cheesy one-liners, messy action and weak third act.
I like how Iron Man feels like a movie made by a "start-up" kind of studio but I like the ambition on display in Batman Begins even if at times I think Nolan lacks the means to meet that ambition.

1. Batman Begins

Ant-Man (2015) a somewhat reworking of the passing the mantle to his daughter
and criminal turned hero-in-training, theme from:

The Mask of Zorro (1998) which should also be on the poll.

Even though its not my fav on the list - Superman 1978 was the most epic superhero movie origin story. I know alot of ppl will say Batman Begins, but BB didn't have a central antagonist where as Superman had Luthor w/ Gene Hackman. Superman was an epic that one was on par with Ben-Hur, The Ten Commandments, etc, etc. Batman Begins was just one of the best cbm origins.
