UXM and MTU. have'nt tried his zombies yet. as soon i heard they were doing it i immeditely said it's crap. every good concept that a writer leaves hanging(UFF-zombies) marvel always has to take it and bastardized it. Fantastik Four, (spin off of M:1602),M:1602(sequel) Illumnatti..how many ****in illumantties do we need?! so im not going to bother with spin offs.
His UXM is honestly the most uninteresting thing he's done that I've read (not saying I thought it was bad, just not up to snuff with the high bar he'd raised on other titles). The only MTU arc I read was League of Losers which was FANTASTIC. I assume you mean Marvel Zombies, since he also has another book entitled The Walking Dead. The Marvel Zombies book was hysterical if you get the joke, and most everyone I've spoken to loved it. Maybe it's not for you amigo, but that's just because the concept doesn't appeal to you, not because the book (which you haven't even read, so that's an unfair judgement) is crap. It's a dark, dark comedy, and dark comedy's usually have very select audiences, it's all about whether you get the joke or not. Not everyone gets Beetlejuice, either. But, for my part, I thought Marvel Zombies was entertaining and funny.
Walking Dead is very different from everything else he's done, as it's a very serious horror drama, and one of the best ongoing series available at the moment. Nothing is lighthearted in this book.
If you like Invincible, you might enjoy Brit and Tech Jacket. And if you're not easily offended by blasphemy, Battle Pope is a hoot.
In defense of spin-offs: Marvel is a company, they're SUPPOSED to make money. In fact, they NEED to, and fans sometimes forget this. And a very very good policy for continuing to make money and not have your business go under is that if one thing is successful, try more things like it. Hell, Batman wouldn't exist if it wasn't because someone said "Hey, this Superman comic sells pretty well. Hey, Bob, think you could come up with a another superhero? Maybe we could give Superman a second title, too..." And thus history was born. So there's no reason to get mad at a company for trying to be a company.
Sure, sometimes concepts get run into the ground, but one or two attempts isn't. Just think, The Silver surfer wouldn't ever have had his own title if he hadn't spun out of Fantastic Four. Neither would the Punisher, or Wolverine, or a billion other popular characters who first appeared in someone else's book.
Heck! MARVEL WOULDN'T EXIST if Martin Goodman hadn't said to Stan Lee "Hey Stan, DC's got this book about a team of superheroes that's selling real well. Think you could come up with something else like that?..."
