has anybody seen FF#552 where Dr Doom tries his latest ploy to break the FF, citing the recent Civil War over the SHRA and arguing that Reed hates and despises him not so much because they are so different but because they are in reality so similar-and WALLOP, the Thing lets him have it!
Personally my opinion is that although Reed Richards intellect is well known enough, people have a tendency to overlook his humanity and compassion( or at least look to Sue, Ben or Johnny for such qualities).
As Captain America( or the late Captain America, no slouch in the humanity business himself) noted in the second issue of "Secret Wars", Reed gives new meaning to the word "hero"

Anybody think as I do?

I think that Reed has an overdeveloped Superego which drives his altruism but that deep inside has a "disconnection" from humanity which is similar to Victor's. Due to Vic's almost complete lack of a Superego (moral constraints on his behavior) this disconnect is expressed very differently in each man's actions and worldview.

I also think that the Thing's quick rage was at least partially fueled by the fear (probably hidden from himself) that Reed's disconnection could be indicative of something bad or that could turn bad within Reed.

I would say that McDuffie has redeemed himself for the Surfer arc by his Doom characterization here.

I almost cheered when Doom pointed out that cloning is illegal.

He was scoring points with the team internally before being forced to take them down, too. No one else but them really understands Reed's isolation.

I wish they'd forget about that Civil War mess.

Though, I think Reed Richards should solve all his problems with a gun. "Franklin, Clean your room!" Fast foward ten minutes later...

"Problem solved!"
