Films that you know are quality but......

The first time I saw Blade Runner I wasn't that into it, but I really loved it the second time.

Anyway, I've seen four Stanley Kubrick films--Dr. Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and Full Metal Jacket--and they're all great movies, but the only one I loved in the pure entertainment sense was The Shining. I liked the others but wouldn't be rushing to see them again.

Orson Welles's 'The Magnificent Ambersons' and 'The Lady From Shanghai'. Joseph Cotton and Rita Hayworth, and they still don't work for me.

A Clockwork Orange
Fight Club
Blade Runner (I like to watch it for the cinematography and visuals though. Pretty eye popping)
The Usual Suspects
The Princess Bride

I kind of agree on The Usual Suspects, I think because it's been parodied in almost every movie or TV show most notably Scary Movie that when I did finally get a chance to see it I was just there watching the screen and going "that's it?".

Goddamn those Scary Movies. At least i was fortunate enough to watch it without knowing everything.

I thought I was the only one that didn't care for The Godfather. Everyone seems to love it and I've honestly never been able to get through it. It's on my list of movies to give another chance.

2001 is definitely another for me. I made it through this one, but I'm not sure how.

2001: A Space Odyssey. I actually enjoyed the sequel more.

The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly and Once Upon A Time In The West were two films that I really wanted to like but just couldn't get into, despite their iconic stars and even more iconic music by the master Ennio Morricone.

"Apocalypse Now"
I've never been able to finish it. I usually love war movies and some of the best war movies take place during Vietnam. I also like Sheen, Brando, and Duvall...and it was directed by Coppola...so why can't I stick with this flick? It just feels over-long, slow, and boring every time I watch it. I'd rather see "Platoon" or "Full Metal Jacket"

Also, it's not a film, but everyone who knows me has tried to get me to watch the new "Battlestar Gallactica" show. I've watched the first 3 or 4 episodes and can't get into it at all. I can see that it's well made and it's got a lot of cool sci-fi elements that I SHOULD love, but for some reason the show just does not capture my attention.

Thank you! I thought I was the only one. I had two ex-girlfriends try to ram that show down my throat like it was God's gift to television. And it's not that it's bad... it's just that I couldn't get into it. The actors are good but I couldn't bring myself to give a sh** about any of the characters. Maybe I just couldn't stop snickering over the fact that they were all running around in backwards wifebeaters, I don't know. But whatever it was, I just was totally "meh" about the whole thing.

I felt the same way about Firefly.

Another one for me was The Deer Hunter. I just felt like crap after watching it.

Lots...

L.A Confidential, The Departed, True Grit and there is a lot more

lol, we did not have a vhs when i was little , so I would watch a lot of videos at the next doors neighbours with their grandson when he visited at weekends. His choices were always Stallone movies, Rockys, First Blood, martial arts/action movies in general, Bruce Lee flicks...then one day he got the Deer Hunetr, i would have been about 7, he would have been about 5, and we were both wtf?! lol
It is a good movie though, although not one i would watch more than once every ten years or something. The Russian Roulette scene is still one of the best scenes in the histroy of film though. that is one that all the actors rave over.

I have high respects for The Usual Suspects but I cant help it to think it's losing its impact throughout the years.

Gotta agree with you there, too. I finally made myself watch Firefly after hearing all the hype around it and having it recommended to me by all my friends and it was just...it was okay. I don't see what the big deal is. And the movie, "Serenity", I couldn't sit through all of it.

I feel like Firefly, if it was able to go onto the next season, could have been much stronger and could have benefited from being more serial. Much of Firefly's single season was episodic episodes (filler).

With that said, I did like the characters and the imagination it had.

The thing is though, they managed to cram the whole plot arc that was planned for the show into a 2hr movie pretty well, so there would probably have been a lot of dragged out filler in the succeeding series'.

Star wars the empire strike back

I'm still waiting for somebody to pay me an obscene amount of money to watch it

some guy got paid a million dollar just because he ask on you tube

my demand was way before that

i'm still waiting my million dollars paycheck you cur

turn my demand into a brand new Tv show

I think that happens to a lot of the "classics" after a while. They get ripped off so many times that after a while it's hard to appreciate the original power and influence it once had. Look at how many times the original Planet of the Apes has been spoofed.

TV Tropes & Idioms would refer to this as the "Seinfeld Is Not Funny" effect.

Yeah Blade Runner is probably one. I love noir, I love sci fi, and I love Harrison Ford but I still cant get into that much. It's so boring to me

Blade Runner is super boring. I heard all the hype, I gave it a chance, and I hated it. Plus the plot was really dumb to me. The replicants come to Earth to have their life extended and one chooses to be a nude dancer? WTF? The rest of them go parading around town doing dumb **** while their life wastes away.

So you prefer the prequels then? (snickering)

the godfather... classic lines and scenes, but dude that movie is boring..

i can appreciate it but nothing more i guess...

Blade Runner will always be remembered for its lush visuals. But yeah, it's very slow, very ponderous. I wish someone punched up the script a bit back then, and add SOME FRICKIN' HUMOR. The only think that I thought was funny was Harrison's 'gay voice' when he snuck into dressing room.

I do like Roy Batty's last speech before he dies.
