What movies regardless of how good or bad they turned out to be had the best promotion that got you excited for the movie long before it came out. What promotions be it past or present caught you up in all the hype?

One movie that comes to mind for me was when Godzilla 1998 was coming out and you had loads of billboards that read. His claw is bigger then this bus, or his foot is longer then this train. I remember as a young kid me and my friends loved seeing all those billboards that we got so excited when Godzilla came out that summer.

Paranormal Activity.

The Dark Knight

Your right about Godzilla '98. The movie sucked but the marketing was off the chain!

Spider-Man 1.

TDK had bar none the most successful viral marketing campaign ever. In a day and age when that's the type of marketing many studios are going for, it should be the standard to which others are measured.

Cloverfield. It really made a big impact on viral marketing.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...

Batman '89 had one of the best ever for sure. Bat symbol was everywhere.

For me, it was Spider-man 3. The evening news has the announcement of Sandman as the villain.

I remember The Phantom Menace being pretty big. Talk about hype.

Iron Man did pretty well.

It made a B-list comic character into an A-lister who's everywhere!

Da Vinci code? Not really a marketing campaign oh well.

The marketing for Harry Potter was pretty epic

The Phantom Menace was pretty crazy. I remember Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut were all promoting it at the same time. Looking at the movie now, I'm kinda meh about it, but as a nine year old kid, the movie and the marketing for it blew my mind.

The Blair Witch Project's marketing campaign was pure genius. They did a faux documentary on cable that felt so real it was even creepier than the movie actually was!

I remember the Matrix was pretty well hyped up as well

Oh man, I was all about that Taco Bell campaign during that summer. I actually have fonder childhood memories of that than I do of the actual movie.

I remember Batman Forever was everywhere when it came out.

and GINO (Godzilla In Name Only) too.

Argh!!! Double post.

I wish I was old enough to remember the marketing for both of Burton's Bat-movies.

The most memorable ones for me were The Dark Knight and Cloverfield.

I picked up on TDK from Day One and went after every detail. It was a great adventure and I remember that first Joker picture...I went insane.

Cloverfield...more movies need to surround themselves in mystery until the day the movie releases.

I wish I was born before Buron's Bat movie. Oh wait.. maybe I am... not. Im jus kidding.. why would I wish i was born for that?

There have been plenty. But for my money, and it seems others in this thread are old enough to remember.....

You couldn't turn around without seeing something Bat related in '89. People were carving that freakin symbol into their hair for Christ sake! Nicholson was arguably one of the biggest stars in the world and cast in a role that seemed like a perfect choice for him at the time..and the tons of billboards and posters and merchandise with just that simple symbol had people foaming at the mouth to see this movie.
I think this movie set the standard for what mass movie marketing would become. It was a superhero that paved that way.

What are you muttering about?

I was only about four, but I remember the Happy Meal toys for "Batman Returns".
