Final Fantasy XI players fight enemy 18 hours, still die

I love video games, but I don't get video game addiction. Even playing Final Fantasy VI, I was never so engrossed in it that I couldn't be pried from my controller. Want to see me dash away from a video game? Have a pretty girl in booty shorts pass by. That'll do it.

Bosses that take forever to kill turn me off even more than the idea of spending days without end on MMORPG's. Take Final Fantasy X International: Who the hell wants to fight Penance after so many hours fighting the Dark Aeons and spend even more hours trying to whittle down his 13,000,000+ HP? There are no bragging rights to a feat like that. That says that you have way too much free time, or (alternatively) that you're a masochist who's into punishing yourself like that. Ridiculous...

As a former gameaholic I can tell you that at that age, or any age, people will spend literally hours at a screen trying to beat something that appears unbeatable, and will justify it to boot.

Agreed. When FFVII first came out, I spent 40hrs beating the first disc over the course of 3 days. I had hit the limit on a lot of the levels for the players you receive on that part of the game.
