The Amazing Spider-Man Finally Spidey will be less Clark Kent and more Peter Parker

Thats what you want it to translate into, but what the post really translates into, is "all of you used to love these movies stop jumping on the band wagon". I could see if Marc Webb was doing something really different here but he's not, and it's a waste of a reboot. It feels very much like Superman Returns and not enough like Batman begins.

Brandon Routh wasn't a bad Superman, nor is Andrew Garfield a bad Spider-Man, I really like his performance from what I've seen actually, much more so than Maguires even. However, theres just something about the tone and the way this movie feels like tells me Marc Webb doesn't understand the Comics well enough to be heading this project.

But that's not true. Not "everyone" loved these movies. I know friends of mine who really weren't fans of all three. Personally I thought SM was pretty good when I first saw it, I love SM2, and SM3 is a disappointment, and that's been my assessment of them since each release. Even if it wasn't, people's tastes change and evolve...sure there might be some haters of the previous trilogy but it doesn't mean people are "jumping on the bandwagon" and that "they all used to love the movies".

Peter Parker portrayed by Garfield is not shown as a spineless loser who whines every now and then.

He is awkward nerd but he is also brave and aggressive.

I am not happy to say this but by SM2 and SM3, I could not stand the PP character as portrayed in those movies.

And Peter was never spineless. He was socially awkward, and he didn't have the means to properly stand up for himself. If you look at USM, even before he has powers he verbally jousts with Flash and tries to stand up for himself, but the harassment and bullying doesn't really let up. I'm glad they've included that in this film and the previous series, to an extent.

That post essentially just translates to "I really like the Raimi movies and I'm upset people are questioning them."

I'm sorry, but Maguire - in some people's opinions, mine included - was just never that good. Spider-Man 1 and 2 were very good movies, but how Peter Parker was presented and acted was always a flaw of all three of the Raimi movies, IMO.

And that's not some terrible, awful untruth. It's an opinion. And apparently a half-way valid one considering so many people feel the same way.

And your and several of the other posts translate to "I hate the Raimi films and everything about them".

Despite many of you guys ire over the Raimi films they are much beloved by the public at large. Again, even as we get the reviews of TASM many of the even positive reviews still look back on the Raimi films favorably. I think the Raimi films were far-FAR from perfect, but they were good films. Some folks here really need to get over them- especially since you now have a new franchise which you can focus your love on.

Peter was never like Clark in the Raimi films. Sheez most of you that criticise the Raimi movies, it's as if you never picked up an issue of the Lee/Ditko, Lee/Romita books.

Peter has drastically changed as a character in the last 15 year or so in the books. Raimi's movies are a reflection of the classic Spider-man books.

Serioulsy why the F*** do people have to resort to trashing the Raimi movies to build this movie up?

For many people like myself the Rami films are what got me into Spider Man and Marvel so its very hard to let that go. That being said I had originally been furious at the reboot and not wanting to see it. However all the trailers and news look fantastic and now I can't wait to see it. But for me Toby, Sam, James, and Kirstin will always been my vision of who Spider Man and his friends should be in live action.

Cloverfan, have you read any spider-man comics?

Ya know, The Last trilogy are a pretty huge part of my childhood and are one of the reasons I am a fan of Spidey today. But at the same time, I am looking forward to the new movie. Not knowing which guys I should be loyal to, I am going to try to do the unthinkable: LIKE 2 (TWO) DIFFERENT SPIDER-MAN TRILOGIES AT THE SAME TIME *Gasp*

I'm with you clover fan and I've read Coming Home and an currently getting Wolverine and Spiderman in my Panini CEs.

Um, but very few people seem to have any problem with the movies overall. They still mean a lot to a lot of people. At the same time, that doesn't mean they don't have flaws that could be improved upon. Every film does.

Personally speaking, I was always a bit disappointed by SM1 (at the time of release, people heralded it as the best superhero movie ever, and it simply wasn't for me), but I found SM2 extremely enjoyable (best superhero movie since Batman Returns)

Now, ten years later, I do think they haven't aged as well as some other movies. They play more similar to Adam West's Batman - colorful and semi-comedic - than other, more serious superhero movies. But I still enjoy them greatly - and my appreciation for SM1 has actually improved.

I could see if Marc Webb was doing something really different here but he's not, and it's a waste of a reboot. It feels very much like Superman Returns and not enough like Batman begins.
How is that at all relevant to the conversation? Outside of "you don't like my movies, well I'm not going to like yours either!"

I really don't understand why there has to be this big deal about how bad the Raimi films were. We went through the same thing a few years ago with Keaton vs Bale, and people finally had to accept they are both very different versions of Batman and are great int their own respect.
From what I've read, it really isn't that big of a deal. Raimi's movies were very good, now we have something new that can explore things that Raimi's movies didn't explore. That seems to be the general consensus from what I've read.

Brandon Routhe wasn't a bad Superman, nor is Andrew Garfield a bad Spider-Man, I really like his performance from what I've seen actually, much more so than Maguires even. Again, that's an entirely separate conversation that once again belies the fact that - for you - it's nothing more than one versus the other competition rather than merely a fair and detailed analysis of each film.

As for Garfield vs Maguire, I think people need to just leave it the way we left Keaton vs Bale. They are both very different versions of Spider-Man and both work in their own respects.
I'm sorry, but I disagree. For me, Maguire was always painful to watch as Spider-Man. I've always felt that way, and I probably always will. The existence of TASM hasn't done a thing to alter that opinion.

How can you e en say that with a straight face in reply to a post were I outright said "SM1 and SM2 were very good movies."

Anyone who plays too largely into the whole this vs. that charade is as childish as they are foolish, I agree.

The point is, when Batman Begins came out, people didn't go out and trash Batman '89 to justify it's existence. And in that scenario BF and B&R don't really count because the franchise had changed hands so much it was hardly the single vision that Raimi had with the first 3 Spider-man movies.

I'm excited to see this movies, but that won't change that the Raimi films were excellent, the third a little disappointing, but by no means the complete laughing stock that B&R was.

I want these movies to do well, and I'm glad that this is turning out to be much better than we thought, and this could perhaps be the dark horse film of the summer, because between Avengers and TDKR I think alot of people didn't think much about this film coming out.

1. They did actually. And they were idiots. And there were a lot of them.

2. I don't really see anyone "trashing" the Raimi movies. In this thread at least. So far all I've seen is people being over sensitive to critical analysis.

I thoguht that this was going to suck but since the reviews seem good I think perhaps we should all just be delighted that we are living in an age where exciting thoughtful superhero movies just keep coming out :) !
