Fire Emblem Fates

Really hope the special edition is just the regular edition in NA. Come on, Nintendo, be the man. And please, for once, bring those sweet black 3DS boxes here, too. Just once, come on.

I had regular 3DS and 2DS... thinking of getting New 3DS - white one.

Are you in NA? Because I don't think we got the white one here, just the red and black.

Fire Emblem If: Black Kingdom Will Have More Complicated Victory Requirements. April 29, 2015 . 3:00am

Fire Emblem If: White Kingdom will indeed be easier, while Black Kingdom will have a much higher difficulty. Additionally, it will also have more difficult conditions for clearing stages.

We previously reported details from Nintendo on the differences between the two versions of Fire Emblem If. Project manager Masahiro Higuchi of Intelligent Systems and Nintendo producer Hitoshi Yamagami recently spoke with 4Gamer and touched upon some more differences between the two.

During the interview, Higuchi explains how it’s not just the story that is different between the two versions of Fire Emblem If. According to Higuchi, the White Kingdom version was made more for fans that joined the series with Awakening and those who are playing a Fire Emblem game for the first time.

White Kingdom will indeed be easier, while Black Kingdom will have a much higher difficulty with limited money and experience points for leveling up your characters. Additionally, it will have more difficult conditions for clearing its stages. Defeating the enemy general or defeating all enemies are still the basic requirements, but it will also have other conditions such as suppress enemies, break through enemy lines, and defend your base. There will also be maps with limited turns.

4Gamer points out that it sounds like it’s not simply just the story that will be different between the two versions.

“Yes. Of course the story will be completely different, but there will also be major differences in the maps and the way the game is played,” says Higuchi. “The games are being made so that you can feel satisfied by playing just one, but I believe that if you were to play both, you would be rather surprised at their differences.”

Yamagami explains that the story of White Kingdom and Black Kingdom weren’t just written to be completely different from each other. As previously reported, the initial portion of both versions will be the same, and afterwards, they’ll branch off in different directions; however, the goal isn’t simply to split the stories, but to allow the players to decide “which side they want as their allies,” which will provide the element of “If” to the players based on the choices they make.

White Kingdom

Black Kingdom

4Gamer asks if Yamagami could touch upon this aspect of the game a little more.

“In White Kingdom you’ll be part of the hometown you were born in, while Black Kingdom will have you be part of the country in which you were raised,” says Yamagami. “While both will have the same characters, depending on which side you’re allied with, you’ll see different sides to them. On one hand, they’ll be allies, and on the other, they won’t be, so they won’t be the same stories… doesn’t it sound exciting just thinking about it?”

“Both factions have their own attractive characters, so that will be one of the charms to consider while making your choice,” adds Higuchi.

Between White Kingdom, Black Kingdom, and the third full storyline that will be available via DLC, 4Gamer says that development on Fire Emblem If must be like working on three whole games.

“Yes, it has been rather hectic,” Yamagami replies with a laugh. “It’s because after Awakening released, we had a period of free time, so we decided on making a something with the volume of three games.”

Now, you might recall that the digital version of the game was theorized to offer certain advantages over the physical release, in that you would be able to play up until chapter 5 of the game before having to commit to the White Kingdom or Black Kingdom routes without purchasing either one specifically. 4Gamer asks if this is indeed the case.

“Yes, that’s correct. Having this different selling method for the retail and digital versions is going to be a first-time experiment for the series,” says Yamagami. “To be more precise, once you choose a route, you’ll need to perform another download [for the digital version to access the route you chose]. Of course, this will be after you’ve already made your purchase, so you won’t have to pay [for choosing your route] again.”

Once you choose either route in the game, you’ll get to purchase the other route via DLC. The same goes for physical copies of the game, too. 4Gamer asks if you can play with the same save data used to get past the fifth chapter the first time to play the other route.

“Yes, it will be possible,” says Yamagami. “There will be a save data in your 3DS that says you’ve played up until the fifth chapter, so if you were to buy both routes, then you wouldn’t be required to play the game from the very beginning again. Of course, we wouldn’t mind if you chose to do so, anyway.”

Fire Emblem If will release in 2016 in the West for Nintendo 3DS.

This keeps getting more interesting. Also, I'm glad we in the US will only get the one version with both storylines. More fun that way.

Fire Emblem If’s Third Story Route Will More Difficult Than White, But Less Than Black. April 29, 2015 . 12:31pm

“The most difficult of the three is the Black Kingdom route, but those who play White Kingdom should have no problem playing the third route,” says Intelligent Systems’ Masahiro Higuchi.

Fire Emblem If
is split into versions of White Kingdom and Black Kingdom, along with an entire third route that will be available via DLC. Intelligent Systems project manager Masahiro Higuchi and Nintendo producer Hitoshi Yamagami shared more with 4Gamer on this third route.

The third route won’t have its own retail release like White Kingdom and Black Kingdom routes, and will be available at a later point via download. Considering that the two versions have their own difficulties, 4Gamer asks what will the difficulty of this third route be like.

“It’s a little difficult to make a general statement, but to put it simply, it will be somewhere in the middle between White Kingdom and Black Kingdom,” says Higuchi. “The most difficult of the three is the Black Kingdom route, but those who play White Kingdom should have no problem playing the third route.”

4Gamer mentions that if Black Kingdom is that difficult, it sounds like it could be a little rough on players that are more interested in the story, rather than a challenge.

“In the case that it seems too tough, you’ll be able to lower the difficulty, even during the middle of the game,” says Higuchi.

“As mentioned earlier, Fire Emblem If isn’t something that you can’t fully enjoy without playing both routes,” adds Yamagami. “But please give it a go if you play one route and think ‘I want to play more!’. Both routes are very complete as far as the story goes.”

Finally, 4Gamer asks if it will be possible to have things such as StreetPass features between those who are playing the White Kingdom and Black Kingdom versions.

“Yes. Basically, those who are playing Fire Emblem If will get to StreetPass with others [who are also playing it]. We’re thinking of all kinds of different setups, so please look forward to it,” says Higuchi.

Fire Emblem If will release in Japan on June 25, 2015 for Nintendo 3DS, and sometime in 2016 for the West.

Fire Emblem If Developer Explains Why The Game Is Split In Two Versions. April 29, 2015 . 5:31pm

Key developers from Nintendo and Intelligent Systems recently spoke with 4Gamer on their reason for splitting Fire Emblem If into two separate White Kingdom and Black Kingdom versions. Key developers from Nintendo and Intelligent Systems recently spoke with 4Gamer on their reason for splitting Fire Emblem If into two separate White Kingdom and Black Kingdom versions. Regarding the subject, 4Gamer mentions that it seems as though, depending on which side you choose, you’ll have a different impression of the characters that appear in the game.

“I believe so; however, you’ll be plenty satisfied even just by playing one of the routes, so please play whichever one piques your interest,” replies Nintendo producer Hitoshi Yamagami. “After that, if you get curious about what happens on the other route, give that a try. Once you learn about one route, the other one will become more profound.”

Next, 4Gamer says that when they first heard about the announcement, it seemed like the idea of being able to split the game into two packages came to be due to how easy it has become to add content through DLC.

“Yes, that’s exactly it,” responds Yamagami. “If we were to put the content of both sides into one, we’d have no choice but to set the price as [the value of] two games, and that wouldn’t be fair to players that are just going to play one route.”

4Gamer responds by saying that there are likely a lot of people out there who would be satisfied with just playing one route; however, they were expecting it to be more of an “another route” kind of deal, and didn’t expect each route would have as much content as a single standalone game.

“It is Fire Emblem, after all,” says Yamagami with a laugh. “Each route is properly made, with its own scenes and movies as well.”

If you’re wondering just how much content the routes of Fire Emblem If has, we previously reported that it has about the same amount of content as Fire Emblem: Awakening, which wasn’t a short game, by any means. That said, with the increased cost of development in mind, it makes sense that Intelligent and Nintendo chose to split the game into two versions instead of simply charging a higher price for the entire package as a whole.

Fire Emblem If will release in Japan on June 25, 2015 for Nintendo 3DS. The game will be released sometime in 2016 in the West.

Royal characters will be able to use the “Dragon Pulse” to make various changes on the battlefield. Whether its raising a bridge, causing an earthquake, or flattening mountains, there are various changes you can make to the map.
You’ll be able to have up to nine save files in Fire Emblem If, and that’ll increase by three for each new scenario released.
The game also eliminates the limit on the number of times a weapon can be used.

Fire Emblem If Adds Easier Modes, And No Longer Has Limited Weapon Usage. May 12, 2015 . 3:59am

Fire Emblem If is doing away with limited weapon usage, and has also added an optional “Phoenix” mode for casual players.

Fire Emblem If will come in two different versions that have their own unique stories and difficulties, but the games will also bring a few new features and changes to the series. This week’s issue of Famitsu provides the latest details. [Thanks, Hachima]

The male protagonist is voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki while the female protagonist is voiced by Satomi Sato. Similar to Fire Emblem Awakening, though, you’ll get to freely customize gender, looks, voice, and more. The unit type the protagonists will be are called “Dark Prince” and “Dark Princess”.

Fire Emblem If is split into two factions of the White and Black Kingdom. The White Kingdom has key characters such as Ryoma [CV: Yuichi Nakamura], Hinoka [CV: Kaori Nazuka], Takumi [CV: Yuki Kaji], and Sakura [CV: Hisako Kanemoto].

Meanwhile, the Black Kingdom has Marx [CV: Katsuyuki Konishi], Camila [CV: Miyuki Sawashiro], Leon [CV: Mamoru Miyano], and Elise [CV: Ayaka Suwa].

Fire Emblem If will have a the “Casual” mode that will allow your fallen units to return to your party after clearing the map, and will have an even easier mode called “Phoenix” mode, which revives fallen units on the following turn. This should make it easier for those that want to play the Black Kingdom story without the harder challenges holding them back. Keep in mind, however, that once you change a mode or difficulty setting, you will not be able to change it back.

Characters from the royal families have the abilities to make different changes on the battlefield with something known as the “Dragon Pulse”. Some examples of this include building bridges on the battlefield, causing earthquakes, flattening mountains, and all kinds of different changes to the maps.

There’s a total of nine save data slots, and with each additional DLC scenario, it will increase by three more save slots. Additionally, the limited number of times a weapon can be used has been abolished, so that means you won’t have to worry about keep buying the same weapon, or holding back on powerful or useful weapons, and you’ll mainly have to worry about which weapons to equip for certain fights, when given the choice.

Fire Emblem If will release in Japan on June 25, 2015 for Nintendo 3DS.

Fire Emblem If Developers On Why They Added The Easier Phoenix Mode. May 14, 2015 . 2:45am

The developers of Fire Emblem If explain their reasoning for adding the optional Phoenix mode difficulty to the game.

0225_thumb.jpg

We previously reported that Fire Emblem If will have a new “Phoenix” mode, a setting that is even easier than Casual mode, where characters are revived the turn after falling. In an interview with Famitsu magazine, key developers working on the game shared their reasons for creating the mode.

The subject of difficulty is brought up in the interview, and the developers mention how the White Kingdom version of the game will be more simple, while Black Kingdom will impose more limitations and difficult victory requirements. Famitsu asks if that means players that are looking for a stimulating challenge should opt for Black Kingdom.

“Just because the way it’s played is different doesn’t mean that Black Kingdom is overwhelmingly more difficult by any means,” says director Kohei Maeda of Intelligent Systems. “By playing on a normal difficulty and in Casual mode, even those that are playing the series for the first time will be able to enjoy it.”

“The chapters and story volume of White Kingdom, Black Kingdom, and the third scenario all have about the same amount as Fire Emblem Awakening, so I think that it’ll definitely be worth downloading all of them,” adds co-director Genki Yokota of Nintendo.

Next, Famitsu mention the new Phoenix mode that was recently revealed, and ask about how it came to be. If you’re just getting caught up, the Phoenix mode allows your fallen units to revive during the next turn, and is a new addition to the series.

“Looking back at our previous titles up until Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, they were created with an emphasis on ‘this is the way Fire Emblem should be’,” producer Masahiro Higuchi says. “While that is good in its own way, if you analyze it, you’ll find that it creates this problem of making it more difficult to reach new customers.”

“We’d like to have more and more fans of videogames get to enjoy Fire Emblem,” he continues. “That idea is even bigger now than it was with Fire Emblem Awakening, and with Fire Emblem If, we’d like to have a widening of our horizons serve as the foundation for the game, and this is one of the concepts that went into its development.”

Maeda adds,” “I felt that being able to revive on the next turn, which is the Phoenix mode, should be forbidden in a Fire Emblem; however, when you think about players that might think ‘I’m interested, but it looks difficult, so it might be impossible for me,’ it’s necessary to have something that can let them think ‘maybe with this even I could play’. That’s the idea that led to it.”

Famitsu asks if playing Fire Emblem If in Phoenix mode will have any negative effects, such as not being able to see the game’s true ending, and such.

“There is nothing that can’t be earned just by playing in Phoenix mode,” responds Higuchi. “However, if you switch from Classic to Casual or Phoenix mode, then your data won’t let you go back to Classic. So those of you who are skilled and wish to taste the sense of accomplishment of being able to say ‘I beat If in Classic mode!’ please stick to Classic mode until the very end, by all means.”

Fire Emblem If is slated for release in Japan on June 25, 2015 and in the West in 2016 for Nintendo 3DS.

Fire Emblem If Developers On What’s New In This Game. May 14, 2015 . 12:33pm

“There will be more freedom in customizing your own character than there was in Fire Emblem Awakening,” says Fire Emblem If director Kohei Maeda.

Fire Emblem If developers recently spoke about their reasons for adding the new “Phoenix” mode to the game, which you can read about in our earlier report. They also discused the challenge of introducing new fans to the series, and other tidbits about the game in the interview with Famitsu magazine.

To start the interview, Famitsu points out that Fire Emblem If has a story that is split into different parts, and ask the developers to share the concept behind that idea.

According to Nintendo director Genki Yokota, Fire Emblem originally started out as a series where giant nations are in war with each other, and the player gets to decide how the units move on the battlefield. With Fire Emblem If, they felt it would be fun if the player could also make choices to change the story, an idea that excited everyone from Nintendo and Intelligent Systems.

Having your own character as the protagonist is something they’ve wanted to do for a while now, the developers say.

“There will be more freedom in customizing your own character than there was in Fire Emblem Awakening, so you’ll be able to make quite the detailed protagonist,” adds Intelligent Systems director Kohei Maeda.

“The entire series faces an eternal challenge of ‘how to please those who’ve been playing Fire Emblem and those who’ve yet to play it,’ and that’s something I’ve been thinking about even before the plans were done for [this] game,” says producer Masahiro Higurchi.

He continues, “We took on that challenge with things like Casual mode in the previous game, which lets you adjust the difficulty, and have been thinking of other approaches since then as well. That’s when we got the idea that if we could have players make a choice between a story that is split into two, it would add another element for them to enjoy. And we felt that it would be nice to be able to change the difficulty and the way [the two games] are played, and that’s how the two Ifs came to be.”

Moving on, the Arena feature has been around for a while in the series. The Arena is something players can use to take on enemies as a way to train characters and gain money. Higuchi teases that Fire Emblem If will have something similar, except instead of experience points, you’ll be fighting for something completely different. We’ll have more details on this in the near future.

Famitsu asks if a character that might be an ally in one side of the story will have a chance of appearing as an enemy in the other.

According to Maeda, Intelligent Systems have always had the idea of having an ally turning into an enemy, but have not been able to bring it to fruition up until now. However, with a story that is split into two where each version is different from the other, it has been made possible, and you’ll see ally characters appear as very strong opponents in the other version.

Famitsu try to ask about who could possibly be your allies in the third scenario, assuming that you won’t be siding with either the Black or White Kingdom sides, but Yokota responds with a laugh, and says that isn’t something they’re ready to discuss just yet.

“You can play the third scenario without having cleared White Kingdom or Black Kingdom,” Higuchi clarifies. “However, I believe that it will feel more interesting if you were to play it after you’ve cleared the game at least once.”

We’ve previously reported some details on a special ability called “Dragon Pulse,” which allows royalty characters to make changes on the battlefield, such as building bridges, causing earthquakes, and flattening mountains. Yokota says that eight characters from both kingdoms will have these special dragon powers, and depending on the map, all kinds of different things could happen.

“There are advantages and disadvantages depending on the timing with which you use this Dragon Pulse, so it would be fun to mess around with it try out different strategies,” says Maeda. “Again, it’s not only the players that can use the Dragon Pulse, but also anyone with a dragon’s power on the enemy’s side.”

Fire Emblem If is slated for release in Japan on June 25, 2015 and in the West in 2016 for Nintendo 3DS.

3DS
Fire Emblem If changes up the Weapon Triangle
Published 7 mins ago. 2 comments.
Plus, new maid and butler characters introduced.

Fire-Emblem-3DS-Fami_05-19-15.jpg

The Weapon Triangle, which has been a mainstay in the Fire Emblem series since 1996, will see a reform in the upcoming Fire Emblem If for 3DS, the latest issue of Famitsu reveals. Instead of the standard swords over axes over lances, it’s been changed to swords and magic, over axes and bows, over lances and dark weapons.
In brief, swords and magic are stronger than axes and bows, while axes and bows are stronger than lances and dark weapons, and lances and dark weapons are stronger than swords and magic.
As previously reported, weapon durability is no longer present in Fire Emblem If. But the disadvantages of this are that the stronger the weapon, the larger the unit’s disadvantage in terms of abilities. For example, the Bronze Sword has no chance of landing a Critical hit, but has +10 Critical evasion, while the stronger Steel Sword has -5 evasion and makes it hard to use a Pursuit attack. Only staffs restrict the amount of times they can be used.
Famitsu this week also introduces a new group of characters:

  • Felicia (voiced by Nozomi Sasaki) – A maid.
  • Joker (voiced by Junichi Suwabe) – A butler.
  • Gunther (voiced by Rokuro Naya) – A great butler.
  • Suzukaze (voiced by Daisuke Ono)
  • Saizou (voiced by Tarusuke Shingaki)
  • Kagerou (voiced by Rie Murakawa) – A shinobi.
Felicia, Joker, Gunther, and Suzukaze appear as allies in both the White Night Kingdom and Dark Night Kingdom versions of the game. Saizou and Kagerou are allies in the White Night Kingdom version.
Maids, butlers, and shinobi use dark weapons, which have weakening effects on enemy abilities when attacked.
There will be different weapons that can be used in each version of the game.
Fire Emblem If is due out for 3DS on June 25 in Japan and next year in North America and Europe.

Fire Emblem If Introduces New Weapon Triangle System. May 19, 2015 . 7:30am

Fire Emblem If adds an extra set of weapons to the mix.

Fire Emblem games have used the same “Weapon Triangle” system for a while now, where swords beats axes, axes crush lances, and lances triumph over swords, but this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine shares how things will be a bit different in Fire Emblem If. [Thanks, Zaregotoand Hachima]

While the weapons and the previously mentioned weapon strengths and weaknesses will be the same, Fire Emblem If adds an extra set of weapons to the mix. Here’s how it’ll works: sword and magic > axe and bow > lance and dark weapon.

Additionally, bows and other special attacks will work well against Pegasus Knights. As previously reported, Fire Emblem If won’t have limited weapon usage, but stronger weapons will have demerits of lowered abilities for the unit. Here are some examples:

  • Bronze Sword: can’t use special attacks (critical hits) but adds +10 to evasion from special attacks.

  • Iron Sword: no lowered abilities.

  • Steel Sword: evasion –5, follow-up attack chance –3.

  • Silver Sword: critical evasion –5, power and skill goes down by –2 for the next turn.

  • Brave Sword: attacks twice, but –4 on defense and magic defense.

Next, here are some details on some of the characters we’ll meet in Fire Emblem If:

  • Felicia: Maid (CV: Nozomi Sasaki)

  • Joker: Butler (CV: Junichi Suwabe)

  • Gunther: Great Butler (CV: Rokuro Naya)

  • Suzukaze: Ninja (CV: Daisuke Ono)

  • Saizou: Ninja (CV:Tarusuke Shingaki)

  • Kagerou: Ninja (CV: Rie Murakawa)

Felicia, Joker, Gunther, and Suzukaze will appear as allies in both White and Black Kingdom. Meanwhile, Saizou and Kagerou will appear as allies only in White Kingdom.

Maids, butlers, and ninjas use dark weapons, which have the ability to lower enemy stats as part of an effect. Additionally, there will be different weapons in both versions of the game.

Fire Emblem If will release in Japan on June 25, 2015 for Nintendo 3DS.

So, I decided to go ahead and rename this thread to Fire Emblem If. Most likely, it will get a name-change when it hits the States, but the title was so messy as it was. When/if a retitle is announced for regions outside Japan, I'll change the title.

Fire Emblem If’s "My Castle" Feature Lets You Build Your Own Village. May 31, 2015 . 4:30am

During the latest Nintendo Direct Presentation, we got some new footage from Fire Emblem If’s new village-building feature.

During the latest Nintendo Direct Presentation, we got some new footage from Fire Emblem If’s new village-building feature, where you’ll get to make buildings, deepen bonds with allies, and interact with other players.

[YT]https://youtu.be/6oO7b-oWl2g[/YT]
The video starts out with two Fire Emblem If characters with the maid Felicia and the butler Joker giving us the latest look at the upcoming title. This time around, we’re getting a look at the “My Castle” feature, where you’ll make your own village.

As seen in the video, you’ll get to walk around, and also get a look of the area in 3D. The first areas include “My Room,” which is basically your own room, followed by a farm where you can get crops to make foods, along with other materials from different parts.

You’ll be able to build new buildings like a weapon shop. They show Rinka running the store, and you’ll have other characters that will run the stores for you. These stores can be leveled up to have more and better items. The accessory shop will let you make equipment, including what looks like costume pieces like the scarecrow head shown in the video.

The My Castle area will also let you interact with Marth, Ike, Robin, and Lucina’s Amiibo figurines. Upon doing so, they’ll show up for a fight, and defeating them will let you recruit them into your party.

The Restaurant is where you’ll find Felicia serving food to customers. Eating foods will provide buffs, but they can also give you negative effects. The arena will let you fight other characters, and the Kujibiki Shop (a lottery wheel) will let you test your luck to win gear. There are plenty of other My Castle features that we’ll learn more about in the near future.

While in your village, you’ll get to spend some time bonding with allies at the bathhouse. Lilith’s Shrine will let you provide food to the creature Lilith, and can level up according to what you feed it. We’ll find out more about that later.

Next, at 6:00, the video provides another look at the My Room feature. You can call allies to your room to further deepen your bond. This applies to both male and female characters, by interacting with them on the bottom screen.

The following section shows how you’ll get to interact with other players. This is done through StreetPass, used to visit other players’ castles. You can visit their areas to purchase their weapons and items sold at the shops. Black Kingdom and White Kingdom will have different weapons, so this will be a good way to get other weapons not sold in your version. There are also unique material you can find in other castles.

Additionally, you can use the StreetPass to fight against other players in their castle or yours. The footage shows how buildings can be destroyed while fighting against other players, but they’ll be restored to normal once the fight is over. You can also recruit characters from the other player after the fight.

Fire Emblem If will release in Japan on June 25, 2015 for Nintendo 3DS and sometime in 2016 for the West.

Fire Emblem If Trailer Shows More Characters And Recaps The Game’s Features. June 10, 2015 . 12:10am

A new Fire Emblem If trailer explains how you’ll need to make the choice of deciding which side to join, and your decision will have a big impact as far as how the story is told in the game. They’ll both have their unique parts as well as endings.

The video starts out with an introduction of the Black and White kingdoms, followed by a look at the character creation bits at 1:15, where you can see a few examples of what kind of protagonists you can make.

Afterwards, it explains how you’ll need to make the choice of deciding which side to join, and your decision will have a big impact as far as how the story is told in the game. They’ll both have their unique parts as well as endings.

At 2:30, the video focuses more on battle gameplay, with a look at how you’ll choose your lineup, and how you’ll go into fight, use strengths and weaknesses to your advantage, and work with allies for cooperative attacks.

We can get a look at the new “Dragon Pulse” ability at the 3:53 mark. These abilities can be used by royal family characters from either Kingdom, and they make changes on the battlefield such as building bridges, causing earthquakes, and even flattening mountains.

Next, they show a little more on the bonding system, where you’ll meet characters from over 60 different unit-types. Both versions will have their own unique units. As you level these characters up, they’ll become stronger, and can even change classes upon meeting requirements.

Finally, they share another look at the “My Castle” feature, where you’ll build your own town used to create items, bond with allies, and connect with other players with StreetPass. You can read more about it in our earlier report.

Fire Emblem If will release in Japan on June 25, 2015 for Nintendo 3DS and sometime in 2016 for the West.
