Fire Emblem Fates

It'll be two versions of the game. Then you can download the second path for half price, and a third path for roughly the same price. Assuming it's like the JP release, which it looks to be.

Well, Awakening is on sale on the e-shop. I'm on it.

They did a demo in the Treehouse presentation, I think people said that it showed off the "decision" about which side you'll choose, makes it appear we may only get one game after all...unless I misinterpreted.

I think you choose your side, then you can buy the other side later on? I'm still a little hazy on that whole mechanic.

there three sides technically. you can play ether of the feuding family's light or dark or play neutral as the protagonist. Any one you start with is fine

yeah, I remember that, I was referring to one game cartridge. Instead of two like they have in Japan. Cause they're calling it Fates and not Fates White and Fates Black...or at least not yet....lol

Yeah not yet. but I think it'll be pretty much the same

Just have to wait for more details. Maybe we'll have two disc's in one package hopefully

The thing about the two versions things came from an official press release:

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/press..._TO_GIVE_PLAYERS_UNIQUEGAMING_EXPERIENCES.php

• Fire Emblem Fates: Two versions of the franchise’s new installment offer players an unprecedented choice: fight an opposing force or join the other side and try to make changes from within. For the first time in the series, players take on the role of the main character and command an army, while struggling to decide which path to follow: helping blood relatives or the family that raised him or her. The game is scheduled to launch in 2016.

I mean, I don't know, I guess it could be referring to two versions in one cartridge, but it's certainly not worded that way.

They also mentioned 2 versions on the stream. I saw somewhere that the two versions are named Conquest and Birthright.

It's an awful idea, I think. You can kind of pull that off in Japan, they are more accepting of those practices. But in the West? You can get away with it every now and again, especially with Pokemon games, but it's not something that's going to fly I think. The only way it'll work is if each version if priced much lower than retail, like $25 or something. But if they try to price each version at $40, I think it'll probably flop. I mean, maybe not, but I just don't see it taking here, especially with a series that it, overall, rather niche in the west compared to Japan.

This is worse than Pokemon. You don't trade to get 2 extra stories...

Yeah, that too. Pokemon works because it's a simple premise. They're more or less the same game, just one has a few different Pokemon. It's not a big deal. But this is a lot more complicated, and I don't know.

We will just have to wait and see what the prices are. There is supposed to be a discount for downloading the other stories.

I agree with both of you. This is an awful idea all around.

Interesting, this adds even more depth to the game by giving new/different classes to each side. IF (still waiting on confirmation) Nintendo does do the two versions here in the west, it'll at least be worth the purchase. In some ways, it's more different than a Pokémon game. It reminds me actually of Ruby and Sapphire, where you had a different enemy along with the different legendary you would face.

If the press release wasn't enough, they're playing it on Treehouse now, and they explicitly referred to it as Fates: Conquest and Fates: Birthright.

Well there you go! I'll happily get both since it's clear they're very different games, just from different points of view.

I haven't been able to watch the Treehouse this week, so that's for the update!

Fire Emblem Fates Will Have Marriage And Children. June 18, 2015 . 10:54pm

Yes, the marriage system is back in Fire Emblem Fates.

Fire Emblem Awakening had a marriage system, which also unlocked children as playable characters in the game. The latest Japanese video game magazines reveal that Fire Emblem Fates will also bring back marriages and children.

Once you reach S-rank with a character, they can get married and also unlock children to join the party; however, the marriage matching will be restricted to a degree, but we’re not exactly sure how yet.

In the magazine reveal, there’s a girl named Kanna who is the daughter of the protagonist and the Maid Felicia. Kanna shares the same hair color as Felicia, too. Depending on the parents, the offspring will look different.

The magazine also shows a pairing between Tsukuyomi and Orochi. The child, named Shara, inherits her mother’s hair color, and she actually kind of looks like Tharja from Fire Emblem Awakening. It looks like there may be more children looks in Fire Emblem Fates.

Fire Emblem Fates will release in Japan on June 25, 2015 for Nintendo 3DS. The game will release in the West in 2016. Meanwhile, you can check out our earlier report to get a look at a couple videos showcasing the classes you’ll get from both versions of Fire Emblem Fates.

Nintendo officially (and truly) confirmed that there will be two versions of Fire Emblem Fates...along with a really interesting other bit about marriage...here's the full article:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/24/new-fire-emblem-will-introduce-same-sex-marriage

And here's the part you care about:
"Fire Emblem Fates comes in two different versions, called the Conquest and Birthright editions. In the U.S., Conquest and Birthright will both be sold separately, as is already the case in Japan. For those who have purchased either the Conquest or Birthright edition, a third edition will be made available as downloadable content at a later stage. Details on how the three storylines will be made available in other regions will be announced at a later date.

I'm totally cool with the two versions. It sounds like it's essentially two separate games and I love Fire Emblem so the more the merrier. A third campaign is exciting to have too. Hopefully there's a deep discount there if you buy both retail versions. As far as the same sex marriage stuff that really doesn't affect me too much, but bravo to Nintendo for broadening their horizons a bit.
