Firefighters Forced To Attend Gay Pride Parade

Here's the bad part about it:

When there were black civil rights movements, there were white movements designed to stop civil rights that, however demonized they were, talked about things such as white pride (such as the KKK and WASP organizations).

Now, you can say that some Christian fundamentalists want to stop the gay movement, but do you actually see something called "Straight Pride"? I mean, come on. Are there any (stupid or not) "Straight Pride" parades that have men and women dressing up to accentuate their straightness or make lude gestures regarding their heterosexuality and harass a bunch of women? What's the difference between homosexuality and heterosexuality? Because **** like that would never be generally accepted when it comes to heterosexuality.

That woman would have been stoned to death,if that were to happen in my part of the world.Women do not command men.

Thank God your part of the world is very far away from my part of the world.

A very astute observation, my man.
Their sexuality seems to be their whole world. As a heterosexual male, how often are you just wrapped up in that fact?? You probably don't dwell on it do you? It doesn't consume you or occupy your thoughts constantly.

That's why you don't see parades and such with that going on, by heterosexuals.

That's nice Jourmugand, that's nice.

What the hell is his part of the world anyways, Kazakhstan? Regardless, we should hook him and Celldog up.

That's because someone's who is proud of being heterosexual is an idiot. We're the majority on this damned planet, so it's just as moronic as these ass clowns who run around coining terms like "white pride".

No, but you do see women being harassed near construction sites. You do see them being harassed in bars by drunks. You do see them being harassed at Fraternity/Sorority mixers. At tailgate parties. In the workplace. If you don't think heterosexual men wear their "hetero manliness" on their sleeves for all to see like a friggin' badge then you have to honestly be blind. I have seen, met and known so many hetero men who's every waking moment is designed around getting laid it is unreal. To insinuate that homosexuals have cornered the market on that kind of behavior is amusing. :)

It's not just as moronic because it's never happened. So, homosexuals can ACT like sexual deviants? Is that what you're trying to imply?

Maybe they should.....:yay: that would put your part of the world alittle closer to the 21st Century. Wow....and you have a computer there....I'm impressed.

No, but I just checked the San Diego firefighers web site and they do indeed mention them.

Yeah...but it's a brand new law they're trying to put on books just because of this situation. To make sure no other firemen get treated this way.

New Rules for Parading Firefighters

Published: Wednesday, August 8, 2007 6:20 PM PDT

The San Diego Fire Department is expected, in the next 24 hours, to release a new policy on firefighter participation in parades, the president of the local firefighters’ union just told me. Ron Saathoff, president of Local 145, said the union has been working with the Fire Department to revise department policy after a group of firefighters complained that they were ordered to take part in the San Diego Pride Parade last month against their will.

The firefighters also said that they had been subjected to obscene conduct and language while taking part in the parade. They have brought on attorney Charles LiMandri of the Thomas More Law Center, a nonprofit law firm "dedicated to the defense and promotion of the religious freedom of Christians, time-honored family values, and the sanctity of human life" to represent them.

The firefighters haven’t yet sued the department, but have filed a "notice right to sue," that leaves the door open for them to sue later.

At the heart of the firefighters’ complaint is the claim that they were ordered to take part in the parade against their will.

"That’s what makes this especially egregious," said Bryan Rooney, Thomas More Law Center spokesman. LiMandri is on vacation and was not available to comment.
Saathoff said his union has worked with the department to formulate a new policy that would ensure Fire Department participants in parades are always volunteers. He said that’s similar to the Police Department’s approach.

Fire Chief Tracy Jarman has issued a formal apology to the firefighters.

Saathoff said that until this year he did not know of a single complaint filed with the Fire Department regarding the Pride Parade, though the department has been involved in the festivities for 15 years.

"We’re dedicated to serving the public and that means all the public," he said.

great. the chief apologized and they're changing the laws to make sure it doesn't happen again. end of story. now move on to the next story about gays or muslims so you can blow it out of proportion and voice your bigoted opinions some more.

If they were uncomfortable being there, they shouldn't have been forced to go. I don't understand how anybody can justify forcing them to be there.

What if school teachers were required to attend NAMBLA meetings and bring their students with them in the spirit of "Community Outreach"? Would we say that's justified, too?

If myself and friends are constantly being jeered, ostricized and beaten for our heterosexulaity......yeah I think it might occupy my thoughts considerably more than if my sexual preference didn't offend the masses......your argument is apples and oranges

---be that as it may and back to the original argument, no-one ever heard of a sick day?
