I AM VERY LATE at discovering this show (found out about it a few months ago and watched the series and movie then). I looked back a dozen pages or so and saw no thread and given how many Star Trek threads there are I thought a rare GOOD sci-fi show that did not deserve cancellation should get a thread (and I'm sure there have been ones before but not in the past few months).

Any fans of the show.

Yeah, I was talking about it in the Jossverse thread. I am absolutely in love with this show and it has only fueled my hatred for Fox. The bastards didn't even play it in order. Arrested Development got the same treatment.

Even their rogues gallery (for lack of a better term) was developing pretty well. Badger, Saffron, Adelai Niska, The Blue Glove men, and (my personal favorite) EARLY!

That, "War Stories" and "Out of Gas" were definately my favorite episodes.

I wish Joss would at least continue the show in comic book form. I have the Serenity comic and this show was tailor made for that medium.

I caught some re-runs after seeing Serenity.(which was great) It was a pretty good show.

I just started watching this, seen the first 3 episodes so far, its great ! love it, I will watch Serenity after I watch all the show, its really cool, the Capt is just great.

I wish Joss would at least continue the show in comic book form. I have the Serenity comic and this show was tailor made for that medium.

I'm pretty sure that there's a new mini-series planned for sometime this year. I believe it's called "Better Days" and it's by the same creative team as the first mini.

That was DEFINITELY Mal's coolest moment on the show, minus an ear and all

Still, my all-around favourite episode is "Ariel". I like the whole premise of it, from them breaking into the hospital, to the holo-imager, to the Blue Sun guys and their weird sonic weapons.

"Ariel", followed by "Objects in Space".

Just a damn good show. The characters are so interesting. It is a real shame it is gone.

The cast did a fine job all around and all the relationships feel fresh and original. I do think the show did suffer slightly from a "villain of the week" syndrome, but it was just beginning and in its early stages. Not to mention Saffron and Early would have been great recurring villains (the former did have two episodes to be in).

Overall a fine show that spawned one of the best sci-fi films I've seen in a LONG TIME (probably the best in at least a decade). It is sad to think the show never found an audience hwile on the air and the film flopped at the box office. Seeing it now, if only I and others had known how good it was it may not have been cancelled (or losing the chance for sequels).

Oh well.

Awesome news. An ongoing would be more to my liking though. Niska and Early are just awesome. I want to see a showdown with the Blue Sun guys. Not to mension I don't think they've even tapped River's powers. Maybe some more from Agent Dobson. This show was just way too friggin short.

Dobson was shot in the face and Early was left adrift in space... so I'm pretty sure they'd have to be retconned

In the comic it turned out he was shot in the eye so he got a cybernetic enhancement. I just figured he'd get another one. Early I can see being found by some family's shuttle, who he then murders and hijacks.

Ah, I see. I dunno about Dobson though, he was such a weiner.

I like Dobson as Mal's alliance counterpart (although he doesn't work for the alliance anymore. They erased his entire history once they figured he was dead.). I can even see an issue where they reluctantly have to team up against the Alliance. I'm sure his eyes being cybernetic would have been quite a help too.

Here's something interesting. "In the commentary for the pilot episode, Joss Whedon mentions that Dobson would have become a recurring villain had the show gone on. However, he was able to bring him back in the comic book series that bridged the series and the movie."

Just remembered something though. Mal shot him twice for good measure in that comic just to make sure he's dead....Well there goes that.

EDIT: Also the two agents from Blue Sun were killed in the comic...Wow, Joss really tried to tie off all loose ends with this and the movie.

Did the comics go into more details about Book's life? That's the thing that irked me the most, they had all these hints that Book was more then he let on and we never got a definitive answer.

Yeah, that bothered me too. I'm hoping there's some kind of prequel (comic, tv show, or movie) about his previous life. All the Serenity comic did for him was explain why he left and is where he is in the movie.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I think it may actually take place before Serenity (the film that is) though, so it probably won't push the story ahead at all.

There has actually been a bit of speculation as to whether or not they were actually killed at the end of Serenity #3.

A lot of fans believe that, despite never having it spelled out for them, Serenity implied heavily that Book was at one time an Operative, and a lot of fans have pointed out similarities and parallels in the two characters' personalities.
