Horror Five Nights at Freddy's

For a movie I've recently been told for kids, they spend quite a bit of the opening I can only imagine boring them out of their mind.

You don't get it! You need to play all the games and read the the entire wiki to understand it!

The critic reviews were embarrassingly out of touch with Mario. I'm not asking for stuff like this to be graded on a curve but at the very least have an ounce of self awareness when reviewing this stuff. I've always found the Hype's obsession with critical reception to be very strange. They feel the need to have these IPs they like to be legitimatized by the tastemakers for whatever reason.
It's less about needing to be legitimized and more that a well reviewed film is less likely to be ****ing horrible than a negatively reviewed one. They weren't out of touch with Mario, they were entirely correct about Mario.

Just finished watching this with a couple of moots. It wasn't great, but I definitely found it a decent time and I think the overall critical reception was a bit too harsh on it.

Also I needed much more of Matthew Lillard in this. He was amazing in every scene he was in.

One of like 6 horror films to ever get this rating from audiences. (Which is the best rating horror has ever gotten in cinemascore)

Jesus christ this fanbase is mega massive lol It's gonna make a ****-ton of money. I've always been vaguely aware of how popular it is but damn, Jason Blum found a goldmine.

Is this an invitation to watch Spinning Gold? :ebr:

You'd love it for all the horrendous inaccuracies of 70s music. And the fact that the movie pretty much said that Donna Summer was a untalented nobody until a white music exec came into her life and helped her make music. lol

It's literally this as a movie:

I had a roommate obsessed with the game and lore, and I still don't understand the hype.

Evil Chuck E Cheese doesn't really tickle my interest.

Deadline.com is projecting a $78M weekend at the BO. Pretty good for a flick that was also/simultaneously released on streaming.

My Five Nights at Freddy's thoughts after watching the film.

It was decent. Not horrible but not great either. There were things I really loved about it and things I feel they could have done a lot better. I'll do my best to avoid spoilers but warning. Some examples may be considered minor spoilers.

I appreciated the sad back story of Mike and his family and how it connects back to Freddy Fazbear's. However, I feel this part could also be boring for the younger fans. But as an adult, I enjoyed it and gave me more depth.

Likes/Positives:
I liked how they literally took the "5 nights at Freddy's" title and game style and applied it to the film. I liked how they incorporated various games and game modes from the series into the film. If you are not familiar with the games, you would not necessarily pick up on this but still be entertained. The Animatronics were spot on! The film had a decent mix of humor and horror.

Dislikes/areas to improve:
I had hoped for a bit more horror and action. It was slow at times. After playing various games with my son, there was still a lot more scares and activities that they could have done and still fell within the PG-13 rating. I wanted to see more running and hiding, and more being stalked by these creatures. I wanted more air vent action as well as it plays a huge role in most of the games. Sure, there was some of this in the film, but in my personal opinion, there was nowhere near enough.

Final thoughts:
As I said in my intro, it was decent, not horrible, but not great either. My son even said, "dad, I liked it, but wanted to see more scares, hiding and games" So this seems to be a common thought in my household. I enjoyed it enough that I'm sure we will watch it again at some point. We also enjoyed it enough that we would welcome a sequel especially if it is improved upon.

Also, while watching the movie, I couldn't help but occasionally think of Willys Wonderland at times. I mean, it was basically a unlicensed version of a FNAF film lol. But in my head, I was thinking to myself, if they were to have merged the two films together with the action, horror and shenanigans, it would have been the perfect FNAF movie.

So if anyone wants to ask or if you are curious.... While again, I did enjoy this film and welcome more. I honestly did have more fun with Willys Wonderland and I'd welcome another Willys Wonderland as well.

I saw and reviewed the movie. IMHO it wasn't scary, and while the practical effects looked good, the animatronic creatures weren't terrifying.

Also, the story was very clunky and badly conceived. I appreciate they were faithful to the games and the lore, but the movie was very clunky and the plot was not cohesive. I'd say Dan Murrell was pretty on point with his review.

But it's all opinion at the end of the day. The fans seem to really like the movie, so good on 'em.

40m opening day plus previews. Dropping like BvS over the weekend.

For a second I thought that was you in the video.

Yeah… Given the (limited?) fanbase and poor reviews, this seems like the type of movie with a frontloaded box office. Still… the producers must be pleased to have essentially broken even after the first day — and to be booking a profit after the first weekend. Do doubt, the makers of (say) The Creator, Blue Beetle or A Haunting in Venice would trade their grand totals for a Five Nights at Freddy's opening.

I appreciate that they were going for something different here, though it isn't as good or conventional as M3GAN, another killer robot movie.

I didn't like one of the director's previous movies, The Wind. I liked this more than that, anyway. Five Nights is a clunky movie that could've been executed better. I kind of like where it goes but how it gets there is a different question. Too much family drama and that's including the side tangents that threaten to go somewhere but ultimately don't.

Josh Hutchinson does a pretty decent job, Elizabeth Lail does her best Emily Blunt impersonation.

~94% of the opening audience was under 35. Which is indicative of a significant generational gap between the IP's target audience and everybody else. It's a reminder that younger Millennials and Gen Z want their own culture out there and not just a bunch of hand-me-downs from all the previous generations.

Even if it drops like 70% next weekend, it's highly profitable at a budget of about $20 million. Will likely erase some of the embarrassment for Blumhouse/Universal after The Exorcist disaster.

With that opening numbers, Universal is surely going to be making a 2nd/3rd/4th movie.

But as for me, I have no interest with the games and now this future to be movie franchise.

Just watched it. This wasn't as good as I would hope it would be based on concept, but it was fine. Never played the games, so don't care about any of that. Movie itself is very cliche, but I was entertained enough. I do wish it was scarier. Too kid friendly IMO

Wasn't scary, just decent. Story was kind of meh compared to the game lore, and honestly I don't really see how they can get a sequel that would be any better out of this.
