Follow up to Under the Hood?

Meh, Batman will be written a hundred different ways in a hundred different titles. Bottom line, Batman likes to see himself as a loner, but he clearly isn't, Hush goes further into this I believe.

I more or less stopped reading Batman comics after that Leslie Thompkins "twist" was done.

I think you can be a loner and still have friends and allies. You just prefer your solitude most of the time.

More people need your balls to do that. :woot:

But virtually every superhero is a loner. It's nothing what makes Batman special. He has actually more people around than most. Afterall, for most of his fictional existance he was part of a "Dynamic duo". Not so much a loner, this Bat-Man. :cwink:

How exactly is this *******-ery? The only thing that's wrong with this is that he should be put into a prison.
He completely drugged him up and put him with the lowlife's of Arkham. I'm not saying that it wasn't necessary or anything like that. And it was totally badass, but still that was an a**hole move to Ra's.

I don't know. Winnick is writing, isn't he? Well, doesn't make me wonder then. But in Batman & 'Tec (= the core titles, and so those who set the rules for Batman) he isn't an ******* at all.
No. Winick was originally supposed to write, and it was going to have Batman and Nightwing on the team but then Bedard was put on the book for some reason. My guess is that DC realised that Winick was getting stale on the Outsiders. But DC didn't like the direction Bedard was taking so before the first issue was even out, they replaced him with Dixon and had him start completely over. Surprisingly Batman & the Outsiders is freaking awesome.

When was that?
A recent issue of Robin.

Well, I disagree again ;) He is actually quite nice to his friends now.
Yeah he is nice and shows respect for his friends. But that doesn't mean that he's still a tad bit of a prick.

I recommend going back into Batman. Morrison's run is good especially with the most recent issue. Dini's run is good on Detective Comics. And Batman & the Outsiders is great too.

they ret-conned the whole Thompkins thing out.

I couldn't take it after that. Granted, I've been reading all the TPBs, so I'm up to date with the Hush "saga", Black Mask and The Great White Shark and so forth. And pretty much anything since.

But I mean, there are character twists, and then there are things people would never do. It's like having Alfred slit Bruce's throat while he's sleeping. It's obvious that whoever wrote that arc simply didn't understand fact one about Leslie Thompkins. They just shat all over her character, and I found that unforgiveable.

I've tried, and I've read most of the new stuff. I loved Grant Morrison's run on JLA a few years back, and his characterization of Batman and his supporting cast is spot on, but his storylines have utterly disappointed me. His style of storytelling just doesn't work real well for a Batman title, IMO. And I have to admit, I got spoiled when Greg Rucka and Ed Brubaker and Devin Grayson were on TEC and BATMAN and GOTHAM KNIGHTS. Real spoiled. There was so much great character work going on then, extended stories, interesting, relevant plots...it just seems to have devolved into what I call "X-Men" style storytelling now. Where writers just throw stuff out and hope it's any good.

Dini's run is ok. I'm not particularly impressed with his storytelling, either, but he is another who has got Batman's character spot on. Although his Batman just stands around and lets people get shot in the throat a bit too much for my liking...

Superboy Prime? Or something cleverer?

Yes, absoluely. Or like revealing Batman has raped Dick Grayson :whatever:
It's just stupid and it is a trend that sneaked into the mainstream comics since the 80s. "There are no heroes" is their slogan.

That's just lazy. So it was just "undone"?

yup..it was in an issue of Tec or Batman where they just mentioned she was still running her clinic in Crime Row..status quo=returned.

Yeah I remember that happening, it was a big thing when they did it. Shame they need to rely on retconning to correct sloppy writing.

IMO Dinni is the best thing to happen to Batman in a long, long time.

Well, I think to ignore this is the best way. But we haven't seen her since War Crimes. So. Mister Dini, Mr Morisson !

^ lol

Sometimes the best thing to do when DC shuffle the universe, just ignore it...
