"For Asgard!" The Mighty Thor / Chris Hemsworth Thread

No offence but cry me a river? The LoTR actors would scoff at this.

It's part of the job, as an actor you know what to expect and what is expected OF you. Costume and makeup is part of the deal, and you roll with those punches. Complaining about it or even worse pushing towards a change in something iconic of the character is childish.

And it IS disrespectful to push your own agenda and personality on an established character. Taika expressed he wanted more Chris for this installment, because Chris is such 'a fantastic funny actor.' He is and that's great, but save it for the likes of Ghostbuster and Vacation type movies? The whole point of acting is completely lost when you bring the actor's personality into it to this extent.

Throughout the interviews he seemed eager to just shove everything to the side from the previous movies, including the character development achieved so far, and the fact he was so accepting of this once again back to poptart loving , dumb version of Thor does speak of his views of the character.
The hair is just a minor thing for me and didn't bother me at all.

Thor has had long hair for like 4 movies already. And it's not like he doesn't have short hair in the comics anyway. Taika totally took advantage of Chris Hemsworth comedic shops to make him a even more appealing and charismatic character. He is the star of his own movie of starters and the one people are really talking a lot of good things about.

The character development of Thor is there. He was frustrated with how his franchise was going and he felt he could do better, that Marvel could do better with his character and his own movie so he pushed for a different vibe a more appealing vibe and something he could really show how good he is. And Chris Hemsworth has said more than once that he wants to do another Thor movie, that he wants to come back... he is that character and finally has a great movie that he is totally proud off after the disappointment that was Thor T:TDW.

Spot on that it's from the comics, but I don't think there's much to be had in a discussion with someone that has just joined to post nothing but negativity about one single film. It's a few shades too obvious.

His time might be of so little value that he can spend time focusing purely on things he doesn't like but mine is worth more than to focus on that.

Nice, looks a bit like Dolph Lundgren there.

I know people think the first two movies are Marvel Studios' black sheep, but I think Thor's growth and character development get way overlooked. Each movie gives us something new about the character, even in The Dark World he gets a pretty clear arc. The character in Ragnarok is the result of everything that happened to him: he'd rather be a good man than a great king,he wants to be a hero,a protector, and this makes for a more confident and relaxed Thor, similar to how he was presented in the first movie, thanks also to the time he spent with the Avengers. But in order to be a hero he must also accept the responsibility that comes from being a Prince on the verge of becoming a King, coming full circle with the destiny the first movie alreadty set up. I felt it's a really well done character arc for Thor.

Before I saw Ragnarok I rewatched the first movie and in those early scenes where we are introduced to a bloodthirsty and arrogant god willing to commit genocide it hit me that the character of Thor has changed the most than any of the Marvel heroes with multiple appearances/films in the MCU.

Thought Hemsworth was brilliant in Ragnorak, his best performance yet for me. REALLY hope he stays on after his current contract is up.

yesterday at my showing once the shirtless scene appeared the woman next to me made grabby hands to the screen & said "COME TO MEEE!":lmao::lmao:
it was hilarious :woot:

I've seen some long-time Thor readers say that they don't like this look, but I think it's a nice change of pace. For a story like Unworthy Thor or T:R, it's fitting. He looks like a grizzled war vet.

Agreed. Thor still felt like Thor in the movie even with the haircut and extra humor (I say extra as it was always there).

I still prefer the long hair. His hair has nothing to do with his characterization - cutting it was just a plot device. There's no reason for him to not grow it back. He's not in the gladiatorial arena anymore.

Good point

Hemsworth gave his best performance yet as Thor! Made me grin and laugh throughout the film!

Taika and Chris Hemsworth had such a strong connection and it showed in the final product.
Like Taika said "I want to make Thor the coolest character" or something in those lines and he definitely achieved that goal. CH had such a blast that he was already pushing for a Thor 4 and Taika is 100% on board to come back as well. I hope they both do. This is a fresh and reborn Thor and more awesome and charismatic than ever in a world where Taika rules.

Taika and Hemsworth both deserve credit for reinventing Thor for this film. Hemsworth added so much nuance this time around and I think the improvisational direction combined with loosening the stilted language a bit allowed him a little more latitude as an actor to do so. I still hope he continues to talk like Thor even if he mixes it up with a bit of Midgardian. I never had a problem with his dialogue before but I can understand how it could be a challenge to give life to those lines. It's a real credit to Hemsworth that he's pulled it off all this time.

Thor's character also benefited from a story line that did not relegate him to the sidelines. I felt his arc was strong in the first Thor but a little murky in the second because of increased focus on Loki (and I say that as a fan of both movies). However, this film delivered the best Thor arc yet. Taika really did keep his promise to make Thor the most important character in his own film which I'm very happy about.

On another note, I just saw the trailer for 12 Strong with Hemsworth and my immediate thought is he looks just like Thor. Or rather Thor looks just like Hemsworth. I know he'll be rocking the eye patch now but I really hope this short haired look isn't permanent. Otherwise he better be sporting the helmet a lot more now. Now that he's king it will suit him and fit the established storyline - whereas in the first two films he kind of shirked that aspect of his lineage. Hemsworth can't complain about the wig AND the helmet. Gotta give us fans something here.

I would prefer the helmet from the arena fight with Hulk to the design of the first film.

Although either would be fine.

Andy Park on Twitter.
Here's a early design version I did of Thor's gladiator look during preproduction of #ThorRagnarok I was going for the armored look reminiscent to Odin's from the Thor: God of Thunder series @chrishemsworth #thor

After rewatching Thor 1, it’s obvious Hemsworth has made Thor closer to his own natural personality. But I just assumed spending time on Earth with the Avengers has made Thor more laid back and humorous.

Yeah that's what I'm running with.

I hope the Russos put a helmet on that head. Regal helment, battle helmet, gladiatorial helmet. Don't care. Add it in post if you have to. Bor's helmet in the TDW prologue was added in post and it looked great.
