If this is REALLY TRUE, getting compared to The Godfather, not only is astronomical good, but even the most pessimists critics would find SR good.

actually, Singer seemed to be pretty posative that he would not have an extended cut on the DVD. He basically said that the finished film will be what he wants. Kinda like Nolan said about Begins.

Although I find it very hard to believe that this will be the case in the end.

Speaking of length, any one else here think about what it would have been if Singer stayed on X3 and Ratner did Superman?

X3 would have been pushing 2 hrs at least, and Ratner would have pulled his "I can't sit through a 2 hr movie so I think everything should be an hour and a half or so" s#!t with Superman.

Imagine him trying to compress an entire Superman origin film into 1.5 hours. Considering how much crap they are squeezing into X3 though . . .

Any who, one of them says that a review guy said forget about SR being the best Superman movie ever, instead he said it's possibly THE best MOVIE, period.

Well I must say that I would love for that to be true, but I don't really even know who they are, as I said, so if someone could perhaps inlighten me, and also, we can discuss the potential for Superman Returns to be, not only the "Cing of Comicbooks Captured for the Cinema," but the one of the best films ever.

What do you guys think?

Yes there is no doubt that SR will be the best movie of the year. Not only will be the best, it will also be one of the biggest box-office smashes ever. It will definitely be one of the greatest superhero movies of all-time. I don't know if it will be the best. It's gots some tough competition like Batman Begins, Spidey 2 and Supes 1 & 2. But it will be right up there. The naysayers will be eating crow pie after they see SR. Superman fanboys will not have to worry about anything. This movie will be huge.

Yes, I feel that SR will be the best movie overall. And when I say overall I mean that it will be the best movie based on several areas like story, dialogue, cast, action, romance, comedy, emotion, drama, fun factor. Ironic that Mario Puzo, the author of the Godfather wrote the original 1978 Superman film. (although it was mostly for money and he had no heart or connection to it).

The chances of this film being even in the top 1000 films of all time are incredibly slim. And the #1 film of all time is usually considered to be Citizen Kane. Not the Godfather.

I think that opinion sucks.

And anyone who makes a statement like that about a film that is not even out and thus they have not seen is ignorent.

Sorry, although I am sure that SR will be great, and that it will NOT likely top films like the Godfather, but your statement is a bit laughable.

You say it like it is a fact, and yet the film is not even finished being cut. And to say that saying it is ignorent to say that SR has a chance of being a phenomonal FILM above being just a good comic film, is in itself ignorent.

As much as I love Superman...I cannot go against the family. I just can't see this being true. It would be one of the biggest..no really it just can't be. I remember those SDCC talks about how the theatrical version will be the director's cut. But that was before 3:07 hours of King Kong... Also, IMAX movies have a certain length limitation for technical reasons.

On the positive side, if the shorter version does great in the theatres, the DVD would generate even more interest as it would potentially contain almost half an hour of additional footage. I could even imagine the director's cut getting a theatrical rerelease later... Who knows.

Yeah but to compare Godfather with a superhero flick is completely insane... how can one compare those two?? They are placed on totally different ends of the todum-pole...

I don't know about comparing movies but the only thing I can say is that yes Godfather and SR belong to different genres but aren't both works of fiction. So, comparing one work of fiction to another can't be that sacrilegious. Moreover, emotions, feelings and attitudes are universal they don't belong to one genre or the other, only degrees of expression differ, so, if you judge something by the heart it has and not by how it looks then comparison isn't really an impossible feat.

I'm actually very VERY nervous about reading the first serious official review for this movie!!!

I really wanna read "Breathtaking doesn't even begin to describe how big of an impact this movie will make on you!", sort of a thing... I really wanna read an exstremely positive review for this movie (but than again, who wouldn't!), saying that the action sequences is like nothing you've ever seen!... I wanna read that Routh does a fantastic job at his portrayal of both clark and superman!... I wanna read that the movie doesn't only lead up to an intense climax, but that it's ONE GREAT BIG RIDE, finishing off with an intense dramatic climax, ya know...

I've made a promise to my self, saying that no matter what people write about this film, I'm not gonna let it get me down- or DEhype me!... Unfortenitly I know that this will be the case, no matter how much I may delude my self into thinking that I can prevent it. I want this movie to succeed in every way, and surpass those of its competition through the last 5years (not worried about X3, cause it'll be a freaken sideshow!!!), even SPIDER-MAN 2 (which by the way I love!)... SUPERMAN RETURNS must triumph all around the world!

A radio jockey said that, these two guys have reportedly seen the film at a special screening (maybe Cannes) and have called it the best film EVER, better than The Godfather, when I heard that i was like WTF.

What....?!? They said it better than The Godfather? While I can understand they would say SR is a great film, but better than The Godfather? I think that's pushing it. I doubt SR will ever be better than the Godfather. That movie is so strong & powerful for SR to be better than.
