Foxx to Join Butler in Law Abiding Citizen

Ok I saw it. It reminded me of Batman: The Last Arkham but in a ******ed way, if some of you have read that you'll know why.

It was pretty good until the third act were the plot just got completely ridiculous.

I enjoyed this movie & really liked Gerard's character. I didn't like Jamie's character, but I think that was kind of the point... to put gray across evil & good.

I didn't like the ending though & one of the plot points.
So Gerard is suddenly some secret government mastermind. That came out of no where. It's like it was thrown in to make Gerard some superman. It felt disjointed.

Also, this intelligent guy does all this & Jamie manages to get to his cell before him & plant the bomb. That's a stretch. :whatever:

It tried to do too much & the plot suffered. But overall it was good.

"Evil" mustn't triumph over good, after all. I couldn't help but think that the writer/s *****ed out in the end. That Foxx et al moved the napalm bombs to Shelton's jail cell was, frankly, ****ing hard to swallow. Being the so-called mastermind killer, Shelton didn't see that coming?! :whatever:

Aside from the disappointing third act, everything else was rather entertaining.

Moving the bomb was pushing it... everything else seemed fine, since Shelton didn't know that they knew. He was sure that they wouldn't have a "Chester." He didn't investigate the female assistant's contacts deeply enough, and its possible this information wasn't available to him, even if he had considered it as a distant possibility. That seemed fine.

Now moving the bombs, that was pure bullocks. I don't even see how the timing could possibly work out. Not to mention getting past the warden and somehow getting him to sign off on blowing up a chunk of his prison. No one else in solitary, eh? That was shoddy...
but everything else? Well thought out - maybe some didn't like it, but it was well done.

I finally saw this today and it was a fantastically entertaining movie...until the end. I, like a lot of people, have a hard time accepting that ending. How about that cell phone kill though? That was pretty damn shocking.

saw this movie ..i dont know whats up with the critics but this movie was extremely entertaining

one problem though was the ending... jamie foxx was a *****e bag throughout the whole movie, and in the end learned nothing from gerald buttlers character. I really wanted to see jamie foxx die..

that said they still pulled off a somewhat satisfying ending

8 out of 10, kurt wimmer should stick to writing more movies like this

lmao i never watch alternate endings.. they're always worse

jamie foxx was a terrible actor in this too.. everyone around him was being slaughtered and not even a tear.. lol
this however is gerald buttler only good role since 300..(not saying much though)

Saw this a few nights ago and really liked it. Anyone know what was added to the Director's Cut?

I borrowed it from a coworker because I wasn't sure if it would be good and he only had the theatrical cut.

Well his role was that of a semi-cold *****ebag, so I thought he pulled that off. And he did look pretty horrified with the car explosions, but yeah, we didn't get to see his character really break down over all this, which would've helped with the sympathy.

I liked his performance until [BLACKOUT]it turns out his character learned nothing from his experiences with Shelton.[/BLACKOUT]

I agree with the majority of this thread. Good movie, crappy ending.

5 minutes before the end i was 100% sure that hollywood will not f... this up. everything was fine and i was expecting an ending that we all deserved.

but no. the ''evil'' guy needs to die. and Nick is the one who '' owns '' the bad guy. pleeaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:whatever:

everything else was fantastic.:cwink:

and i thought it was fantastic how we learn in the middle of the movie that Butler is a smart guy and not just a soft daddy who works on cheap toys.

Like many I enjoyed this movie up until the ending, I was hoping that Butlers character was Chester and that the very idea of Chester was just one big mind **** from Butlers character. I think the character should have got away in the end and that Foxx character should have learned.

There was a chance to make an interesting commentary with this movie but they went the high tech Hollywood thriller route, fair enough but I felt it was poorly executed, the dialogue was mostly blunt, the plot often veered into making no sense even within it's own parameters, and Butler frankly isn't nearly a good enough actor to pull this role off, not that he's helped by dodgy characterization.

I notice most didn't like the ending but Clyde was a total psycho so he was always going to die, the big issue was why didn't Derby kill him in the beginning, once you have killed 2 ppl there is no point leaving a witness.

Derby did stab him, and he past out. Ames was rushing Derby, so when Derby was finished with Clydes daughter, he must have rushed out assuming Clyde was dead. I personally thought it was just too random that they knocked on the door of a guy who's worked with the CIA, to kill and rob his family. I though the movie would reveal there was more behind it. It can happen, but that's where i though it was going.

As far as Butlers acting. I had no problem with it whatsoever.

I watched this on instant queue the other day after I had heard good things. What I really liked about the movie was the fact that Gerard carried out with his threats. In so many movies now a days, a villain makes a threat but never do they go through with it. It was nice to see that change. I'm not usually a fan of Gerard but I thought he was really good in this as was Jamie Foxx.

The thing was Derby was clearly the boss of that duo and to not make sure a witness to a double homicide is dead seemed unlikely to me, and I agree, they could have created a crime that felt a bit more likely.

Fair enough, I just find him very wooden and his accent slips a lot.

i really enjoyed this movie. is it flawed? yeah. is it academy worthy? no. but I was immensely entertained, and it had some pretty awesome kills. I dig it.

I thought it was good up until the big reveal at the end

So...does absolutely everyone in the world except those involved in the making of this movie realize that the end was horrible? This movie deserved better, and should have been a critique on the justice system...and by the end any lessons learned were washed away and the story was tied up with ribbons and bows.

I love revenge movies. I especially like the scenes when Clyde acquires and takes care of Derby, and the 'Steak dinner scene' in jail.
