This is particularly interesting. Polls indicate that he could very well satisfiy many of the conservatives who are unhappy with their choice of candidates. On the other hand, he has been divorced 3 times, which may cost him the evangelist vote. But still, he is already tied with ROmney in polls, which is a pretty telling number. He could very well be a dark horse who sweeps the Republican primary.

Hey Fred, how you doing? Army treating you well?

His response to Moore was pretty great, I'll give him that.

How was it "great". He side stepped a challenge to an open debate and cited an isolated case as if it was enough to validate 40 years of counterproductive foreign policy toward Cuba.

Looks like we have another spineless corporate stooge lined up for the White House.

It was great cause he used the same tatics Moore uses, he blind sided someone. What's more while Moore (the director) wrote him a letter Thompson responded in hours with a video. Hey I'm no Thompson fan but him lighting that cigar (Mike's point of contention) at the end was bloody brilliant, and I've gotta give him props for it.

Now personally I've been to Cuba several times, I promise you Mike painted a very rosy picture on only certian parts of Cuba. Journalists in jail isn't an isolated thing, there's no free press so you just don't hear about it. The second family I stayed with there had an uncle that was a reporter. He was snatched in the middle of the night over eight years ago and the family was told he was a "criminal" and to not worry about him any more I haven't spoken to them in about seven months but last I heard he's still gone.

I agree the foreign policy in Cuba is counterproductive but I hardly think Moore is this great political figure that merits debating. Personally the man annoys the piss out of me and I hate, HATE, someone like him is on my side of most arguments cause all he does is piss people off end any chance of a real dialogue happening.

Good to hear. As if the Republicans don't have enough boring, old war mongers running already.

There have been rumblings about this for months, I for one think he is a good candidate to throw his hat in the ring. We'll see.

ok so your giving him props because of his bulls--t, macho theatrics rather than something of real substance. That's like supporting Bush because he wore a cowboy hat.

Pointing out human rights violations is great. I'm all for it.

But in this case it's simply smoke and mirrors. Instead of explaining why free healthcare for 9-11 workers is a bad idea Fred Thompson points out Cuba's political prisoners. As if it's a simple case of cause and effect. :whatever:

Moore: "9-11 victims couldn't get the same health care they can get easily in a 'rogue nation' like Cuba."

Thompson: "But Cuba has political prisoners and....hey look an ice cream truck!"

No, everyone should have a voice in this country. That's what makes this a democracy.

Do you really believe Micheal Moore is the reason there's no honest debate on health care or gun control or Iraq? What's stopping the public from having televised town hall meetings/debates on important issues every week in districts all over the country?

Micheal Moore?

I have no problem with Micheal Moore. Yes he pisses people off but most of them voted for Bush twice. I'm not surprised they hate Moore as if he's the one who went into Iraq without and exit strategy and wasted hundreds of billions of taxpayer money. All Moore does is bring up issues that the media spends most the time ignoring. Most people thought he was fine until he had the nerve to attack King Bush. That's when he received the hate mail and death threats. It's sad that so many people get caught up in the hysteria and bash Moore for reasons they don't fully understand.

I'm sure you don't have a problem with the guy and as you said everyone gets to have their opinion. I just don't really like bullies and I hate when I see someone like that making points I agree with not because of their views but because they kill actual discorse with people of opposite views.

He has good points I just hate how he makes them and some of the sources and data he uses are less than crediable. Thompson did to him what he does to others, he bullied his point in.

I don't love Thompson, I did ;however, find his reply to be funny and since he did it so fast and used a medium not common then he also gets points for creativity.

not really. my platoon sergeants an ass hole

Have you seen Full Metal Jacket?

If you haven't, don't! :ninja:

The fairy ****ing godmother said it. Out-****ing-standing. I will PT you all until you ****ing die. I'll PT you until your *******s are sucking buttermilk.

Well, no ****. What do we have here, a ****ing comedian! Private, Joker! I admire your honesty. Hell, I like you, you can come over to my house and **** my sister! [
Gunnery Sgt. Hartman punches Pvt. Joker in the stomach] You little scumbag! I got your name, I got your ass! You will not laugh, you will not cry, you will learn by the numbers, I will teach you! Now get up off your face! Pvt. Joker you better un**** yourself before I unscrew your head and **** down your neck!

Oh that's right, Private Pyle, don't make any ****ing effort to get to the top of the ****ing obstacle. If God would have wanted you up there he would have miracled your ass up there by now, wouldn't he?

I could post more, but I'd be banned....

however, in all fairness, Moore has never "bullied" anyone, so it's weird that you'd see it as that, he can be a smartass sure. but Thompson's response was nothing.
it was like "4+4= ?" "uh....look, I have a cigar!" the reality of it is he had no good answer to the points raised and he reacted with theatrics.
cheap ones sure, but more to the point, Moore is a satyrist and he is critiquing a point that is dead serious in society.
he phrases questions which need answers urgently in a humorous way, the answers however , when coming from politicians should be a little more forthcoming.
see this is the point that Stewart made on crossfire, it's not Moore's job to be serious about Issues since he is merely focussing attention on them, someone who hopes to run the US should damn well better have a serious answer though.
lest he risks looking like a *****e.

I guess we have a different defination of bullying. He catches people off guard on camera with his "interviews" which basically amount to him telling somone else how much they suck (he goes after the right people, don't get me wrong but he looks like an ass doing it) or getting the common man on the street prospective (which always sounds pretty scripted, but I'm sure there's nothing to that).

If it's not Moore's place to be serious then others have the right not to take him seriously don't they? He brings up a point, great, but he does it in a way that makes anyone that agrees with him seem like self important jackasses with all the answers.

I might be a self important jackass but I'll never have all the answers or the "one right way to do something" and I hate that when I'm having a discussion with someone they start to lump me in with him.

I was speaking about Thompson for his creativity, timeliness and the fact that he responded (no one ever responds to Moore). Did he answer Moore's question, no, but who is Moore that a politican MUST answer his question or risk being a *****ebag? What office has he held, what has he done? He makes documentaries (which do very well) but there are plenty of far better documentarians that discuss even more important issues that get zero air time. Why don't they?

i find it ironical that republicans waste so much hot air whining about "the hollywood elite", yet they're obsessed with electing actors to political offices. pick a stance and stick with it, WE'RE AT WAR!!!

no, you misunderstand my point. the questions Moore raises are often important to the citizens of the US, it's politicians which hope to reach higher office MUST have ansswers either satisfactory or otherwise to these questions, else what do they hope to accomplish once in office?
"miniature american flags for everyone"?
Now Moore himself is he the bestest guy in all the universe? nah, he is pretty flawed like each and everyone of us, difference being? he doesn't run the country, he merely asks questions and critiques those who do for their sometimes obvious shortcoming and corruption, now maybe I'm wrong but in all the political conversations I've held with friends, both the conservatives and liberals tend to act like they have all the answers, hell even the "moderates"which think they somehow have monopolized common sense.
Moore does it and it's bad?
nah. like I said, if thompson was not looking for a political office I wouldn't care, like when eastwood said he'd shot Moore if he ever ambushed him like Heston, It made me laugh, he is not a politician, he is just a good director who cares right?

it's not like he's running for president.

I do get where you're coming from. And for the record I almost always agree with the tub of lard, but that doesn't mean I can't hate the person.

Moore asked a semi legit question, though not very far reaching or nearly as important as a hundred others, but he got press for it and Thompson trumped him (it's politics, all politicians do this). Truth is the heath care in Cuba is horrendous and the people he took got a "unique" look at Cuban health care, cause when I was there last everyone was *****ing about the lack of antibiotics in hospitals and most I spoke to said while their docs are great (highly trained and very good) the equiptment and medications are extremely sub par. Moore was basically showing a Cuban propaganda film with that and was doing no one (the truth, americans, cubans) a service.

I agree Thompson should be scrutinized but I'd rather hear him answer questions in a debate or by actual reporters than talk to a film maker that's already decided how he's going to market the issue.

Sorry you're around such an annoying group of people. My advice, call them self righteous *******s, tell them to go away and if they don't there's always violence (while it doesn't win arguments it's a great release and pretty funny). Then get a better group of friends.

If Moore went after my man Clint, I would personally shoot him with a gun obtained for starting a bank account in the south, then take his body to the 911 site, rub his fat face in the abestos and other hazardous materials then make him swim to Cuba to get his health care.

Nobody #ucks with Clint.

A "Law and Order" actor running for president? Only if he was on "SVU".

yeah, I'd just wish people hated Moore for legitimate reasons, most people ( and I'm not saying that's you) just hate him for being a fat Slob, like Rosie, who they hate for being an Ugly Lesbian.

the question like you said was Semi legitimate, granted, so...then why skirt it? seems more than disingenuous doesn't it? he could've answered it directly, but again, I agree with you in spirit, I'm saying that Thompson as an everyman had the right to answer as well he saw fit, but as a politician?
different things.

sidenote, my friends are awesome, and I have yet to meet people that have known each other for a long time that don't argue till they are bloody for what they think is right, like two nights ago I had a superb fight with a friend about the Mount Soledad Cross in San Diego.

and Clint can Take care of himself.

First off, no #$@% Clint can take care of himself. Glad we're in agreement on this.

Secondly, Thompson did skirt the issue but Moore was attention grabbing in his letter to Thompson (like he really cared about the cigars) and Thompson was attention grabbing with Moore (like he really cares about the political freedoms in Cuba), Thompson was just better at it, and I will give him credit for it.

Thirdly, didn't mean to imply you had bad friends but if they always think they know everything that must suck. Fighting is fine, but I couldn't do it unless I knew the other person could be reasoned with.
