Free State of Jones (McConaughey)

Yeah it's a nitpick that most people won't notice but it stands out to me. The movie could look 'richer'. Hopefully the colors will pop out in post.

I think the cinematography looks fine.

It loos like they sorta color corrected it, but it's still an ugly movie. I would like to see more from the black perspective in the marketing though.

I've seen the trailer for this movie & it looks really good!!! Anything that deals with the Civil War conflict interests me.

I'm looking forward to this as well. For some reason, I have a thing for US civil war movies, even though I am about as far removed culturally from that period as anyone can get without being from Mars.

This is on my must-see list as well. Damn but this has been a great year for movies so far.

There's a 5 minute preview.

I was not expecting that.

To be fair it's only 6 reviews but then again STX put this Indie film in prime Blockbuster season.

I'll be honest, the trailer have been awful. The worst part is that a lot of it is from Matt's POV. You don't get a lot of dialog from the black characters..even though it's about freaking them!

The other thing is the ugly cinematography.

I haven't paid attention to the cinematography. What do you think is ugly about it?

The Color grading is bad. Everything looks flat and kitschy.

I'm both pro-film and pro-digital, but here, it makes digitally filmed movie look bad.

Yeah, the sample size is small, but it's not a good start. I love the concept and the story. Some of the trailers have made it look uneven so my guess is that's the biggest problem, but it's a shame since this is a nifty story that I wish people would see.

it looks like a History Channel miniseries that was cut down to two hours.

I think people are tired of slave movies.

They're just tired of being reminded of their White Guilt. :o

I watched chris stuckmann's review and he said he couldn't shake the feeling that it was a History Channel made-for-tv movie. That it was pretty preachy, full of speech after speech and I guess looked cheap too. I was never looking forward to this so no harm no foul.
