When it comes to the sexualization of young girls, France keeps stirring controversy.

First, there was the 10-year-old model styled in a very grown-up way in a Vogue Paris spread that many found unsettling, if not downright disturbing. Now, a new faux pas: a French lingerie line for kids that features girls prancing around in bras on its website.

Jours Après Lunes, which offers underwear for babies, girls and female adolescents, has carved out a new niche that many believe sexualizes children. On its website, the French company offers undergarments for three different age groups: bébé (babies), fille (children), and ado/femme (teens). Don't worry, the baby section solely features onesies, but the other sections showcase children in delicate two-piece lingerie sets that are far from Agent Provocateur, but bordering on Victoria's Secret.

In these sections, you will find panties, bras and camisole sets that are undeniably pretty and embellished with lace, ornaments and bows. But the fact that these frilly items are catered to kids, even toddlers, is what Marilisa Racco, author of Le Snob Lingeries, calls “inappropriate.”

“A pearl-encrusted triangle bra on a little girl does not sit well with me,” she told the New York Daily News.

In the adolescent section, a model is reading on a couch wearing sunglasses in her underwear, and in another photo, the same teen is wearing only a bra and panties while hugging a teddy bear.

The world has become increasingly accustomed to young fashion models since the era when Kate Moss catapulted to international fame as a topless teen for Calvin Klein. In fact, Elle Fanning, Marc by Marc Jacobs' new 13-year-old model for the fall/winter 2011 collection, is a very recent example of fashion's preoccupation with the pretty young face. But critics claim that Jours Après Lunes is treading on dangerously sexual ground. In many of the photos, the child models echo the aesthetic of their older haute couture counterparts: voluminous hairdos pinned with accessories, oversized sunglasses, reclining poses and exposed skin.

Why a toddler would need a top designed like a bra, unless she's in a swimming pool, we have no idea. But the French designer is defending her risqué line. In a letter to Fashionista, Sophie Morin wrote: “All I wanted to do was offer underwear that is soft and pleasant to wear,” adding that the materials “have no vulgar connotation: they are totally opaque, nothing transparent. The style is inspired by children's fashion, with spots, bows, etc.” Morin also said she is “extremely surprised by the current uproar.”

say this on the news the other days. they showed the photos from the ads, people have been put on the register for less:wow:

If there is a market for it, so be it.

But hopefully society has no place for this.

I'm sure the market is strong among the pedophile demographic.

I adore the French for their contributions (such as the Ménage à trois and their women) to society but this is lunacy! French parents better hide their kids.

All I have to say is...ew! The pedophiliac mind never ceases to baffle and disgust me.

what amazes me is someone willingly took the shots. i work as photographer and sorry but if i walk on to a set and they are asking me to shoot something like this, you can fire me if you want because no one could force me to do this

Agreed.

All of the variables disturb me on this one - the designers, the potential/alleged market, but most of all, the parents who allowed their children to model for this line. This is disgusting.

It was only a matter of time. They've had heels for babies for awhile now. Parents want their little ones to make the money they couldn't, at any cost.

Whoa, the child ones are pretty ****ed. The clothes are bad enough, but then they get into weird poses and it's like "Yikes, I better click out of this site before the feds start pounding down my door."

What, do you think four year olds are contributing to the free-market? Obviously the four year olds in question don't see lingerie ads and think "I want that!" Sick adults are buying this for four year olds. It doesn't matter if there is or isn't a market for this crap. It shouldn't be sold either way.

Some people are just ****ing ******ed.

What was going through these peoples heads when they thought it would be a good idea to do this? ****ing idiots.

it's only a matter of time before they get padded brassieres in for toddlers...

meh.

might as well get them into pole fitness at an early age. the early bird catches the worm ;)

I agree that this is overwhelming (an understatement), but if we start trying to control an entity or commodity established in a Democratic Nation then we ourselves are contradictions to the concept of Democracy.

These days, markets exist for nearly anything. There are no limits anymore. Yet, nothing can be done. If we start taking action on this particular case then we might as well target everything else that is ethically wrong but protected by The Constitution. Keep in mind, people vary in opinion and by taking the initiative this would, more than likely, send this issue spiralling into a colossal clusterf**k.

Sorry, but my morality supercedes my dedication to free-market economics.

Nuclear warheads aren't sold legally either. If France started selling those to whoever wanted to buy them, should we allow it also? Because they have a Democratic right?

These days it seems it's so hip to prove how pro-free market you are, that people lose touch with simple morality... what's right and what's wrong. If some scumbags are denied the chance to buy toddler lingerie for whoever's child they're currently abusing, somehow I think Democracy will survive.

This is so clearly wrong, I don't see how anyone could defend it, vague constitutional argument or not.

Didn't realize there was such a large demand for this...

There is no reason to get bent out of shape for this. Something this controversial usually implodes from within or loses steam. It's predictable.

Well, these are not Nuclear Warheads, now are they?

Of course it's wrong, but one man's morality is not bigger than the system. What's to stop another man or woman like you from prohibiting the sale of tobacco, veal, alcohol, weapons, etc?

This sickens me but so does a lot nowadays. Topics of this nature will always emerge because the ideal of Democracy allows it. Thus, people will continue to push the envelope everyday. It's a grim reality.

A nuclear warhead is a weapon. And yes, I think some other weapons should be prohibited from sale too.

Some things shouldn't be sold. Nukes shouldn't be sold. Kiddie porn shouldn't be sold. Kiddie lingerie shouldn't be sold. "One man's morality"? Talk to any parent, uncle, aunt, teacher, therapist out there and see how many think it's okay for this crap to be sold.

Good.

We can start exporting all our pedophiles to France if they keep it up. They obviously want them.

:o

Yet, Nuclear Warheads are not being sold. Nuclear weapons has nothing to do with this topic. Trust me, if a government were selling a nuke then the U.N. and Interpol would have already intervened or launched an investigation. It's labeled as illegal my friend since France signed the Treaty along with other nations.

Back on topic, yes, that is the case, BUT that is your opinion. Other people feel strongly about other issues just as much as you, but if we let everyone get their way then society would break down. Like I've stated numerous times, it's wrong but no one has the right to dictate. All of us back up controversial ideologies whether we know it or not, and therefore contradict ourselves daily.

We all have the right to our own convictions. The question is can you handle your neighbor's convictions when they are revealed?

If this does not affect your child or family member, then leave it to the politicians. Protest it. Debate it. That's your right.

It's only through tragedy where people's eyes and ears open.

Seriously? This happens and you're all "All Hail the System"? No wonder the world's in the ****hole.

Its up to parents to decide what kids wear. Not you, not me, not a government.

Seriously, **** that. Someone needs to stop this type of ********, and the government is in exactly the right place for that.

Honestly I generally completely agree with personal freedom and choice. There is a point that it needs to be reigned in though.

Should we be able to buy and sell the kids too?? There is a market for it. What about Pedo-ranches where they can get there fix?

I certainly believe that capitalism has definite perks but it has its limits as well. Being an Ideologue about anything is not good IMO.

You have to exercise good judgement sometimes as well.
