New lifelike doll for girls: Breast Feeding doll. Does it cross the line? IMO? Yes!

I never have to sidestep questions as I always have a valid argument. And that's not really a positive, it's just creepy. And it makes me sort of uncomfortable that you seem to be all for this(assuming you're a he?). I could understand a woman making the argument that you're going with as they would likely be for the whole understanding your whole body thing, but for a dude it comes off as defensive and...... Yeah, you know what? I think bumwhowalks had a great idea. This is getting kind of uncomfortable. :o

What's your valid argument? Why is it creepy? Why are you uncomfortable?

It's not like I'm giddy with anticipation over this, I just don't see how it's in any way harmful, and how it could be potentially benificial, so I don't see why it should be a problem.

When I was a kid, I had dolls that drank from a bottle and needed their diapers changed (from the water that we just poured out from the toy bottle)...and none of that ever prepared me for actually feeding a real baby or changing their diapers later. Dolls are toys, and the reality is just different.

My friends have babies, they've all gone through the breastfeeding thing, and they all have their war stories about it. Some have stopped because it was just too difficult to do, or because it hurt like hell. Having a doll as a kid wouldn't have changed that because again, the reality is different.

And honestly, a mother doesn't have to breastfeed. It's not going to hurt the baby if the mother decides not to do it.

Odds are, most little kids have some idea what breastfeeding is anyway...they have baby brothers or sisters, or friends who do, and they have some understanding of what that is. There's no need to give them a doll.

Hell just based on that, I'd be worried about my kid deciding to "breastfeed" her doll and pulling up her shirt to in the middle of the mall to do it. Little kids will do something like that. We don't need that going on either.

It's just a dumb idea.
Uh, wait you're a girl? And I agree with pretty much everything you said, but I think it's been proven that breast milk is healthier than milk out of a bottle. Not 100% sure though....

Anyone else getting creeped out by thebumwhowalks's responses in this thread?

No, a mother certainly doesn't have to breastfeed. It's just better for mom and baby if she does. My main "pro" from this idea is potentially making some individuals more comfortable with the idea of breastfeeding. I don't know if it will actually work or not.

It's just another way to use dolls to simulate through play an aspect of raising a baby (that is what girls play with dolls for, right?). Boys don't go to space just cause they play with that laser gun that makes the same four noises over and over, and girls aren't necessarily going to want to get pregnant/breast feed just cause a doll they owned had a breast feeding function. But I fear that this could be used in some ways to subjugate minorities.

Breast feeding is pretty innocent.

But most guys are can't get past their personal uses for breast.

It would be like telling a little girl she can't suck on a lollipop because of what it sexually could imply.

That would be harsh. I don't understand some of the public's problem with breast feeding. We literally love breasts every other time whether they are bouncing wildly on a jogging milf's sweaty top or presented with two legs and a thigh on a delicious platter. How is this even a touchy subject, is it still because of the breast feeding in public issue? I just don't see a situation where **** ruin things -- it's usually the exact opposite.

I heard a story about this one lady who breast fed her daughter til she was 11. By that age the girl would all ready be done playing with dolls. It's the circle of life.

Breastfeeding is a natural thing, indeed. But having a doll do it is just weird..but not surprising, given dolls do every thing else these days.

W..T..F

She didn't say it wasn't healther, just that it's not going to hurt the baby if she doesn't do it.

The formulas out there today (Similac, Enfilac, et al) provide the necessities that infants need and in some cases more than what a mother can naturally provide. My wife had to switch to bottle feeding for my first daughter because she wasn't producing sufficient milk...therefore bottle feeding (via formula) was the healthier option for our child.

To answer the original posters question...I don't think it crosses a line anymore than the "pregnant barbie" of a few years ago. That being said, I didn't buy my girls the pregnant barbie and I won't be buying them this one.

I don't think the dolls are a bad idea, but parents have to decide whether it is appropriate for their daughters. This toy should be given considerable thought before giving them to girls, because the last thing it should do is to encourage girls that getting pregnant at a young age is the right choice to make. However, with parental guidance, it just might achieve what it sets out to do.

hahah I'm all for this if it's an added feature to the dolls used in home ec. classes hahahah
