Advertisers are following the viewers online. There's more commercials in streamed shows now than there used to be. And it's scaring the hell out of the networks.

the creators are taking this season as its last. which i think is smart, because then we will for sure get a good ending. not a cliffhanger ending that will never be answered. they said they have an ending in place, so its best to hope they give them plenty of time to flesh things out.

We have no idea if that's the case.

i think its pretty clear that they are when they pretty much almost got cancelled last season and only by a miracle fox renewed them.

Nothing is clear at all, actually. If this was intended to be the final season, they would've said "This is the final season" upfront when they renewed the series.

well because they dont want it to end, they want it to go over forever and im one of them. i rather it go on longer then shorter, but we as fans and they as creators have to take into account ratings and expectations.

it was almost cancelled last season, fox remembered to give shows a chance said,"ok lets give you another season". ratings are holding. they never should have moved it from its original time slot because thats when it shined, had the highest ratings.

they said if the show lasted 12 seasons you would see the ending they have in place there, if it lasted 9 episodes the same ending would happen. I hope it lasts a long time, but knowing fox and how they value ratings so much its safe to bet last season.

i mean only nbc sticks with its failures, but fox....no matter how much fans love it, they will cancel it, which is sad.

Hah, Fox.. they have canceled shows after 2-6 episodes, because they are surprised a show did not catch fire in its first airing.

I am surprised Fringe lasted this long. It is a great show and I enjoy it, which usually means it gets canceled on me.
(Though to be honest I am not liking this season that much so far)

so did they bump that missed episode all the way back to jan/feb?

Yeah. The miserable bastards. :csad:

Fringe Bosses Say this Season's Finale Can Work As Series Finale, But Hint at New Home for Saga

Fringe‘s uncertain future was a hot topic Sunday at the Television Critics Association press tour, with both the president of Fox and executive producer J.J. Abrams weighing in on what is and what might need to be.

But when TVLine spoke with EPs Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman earlier this week — after screening the show’s winter premiere (airing Friday, Jan. 13) — they shared their exit plan (or absence of one) should this turn out to be the final season.

“The answer to that question is the same every year,” Pinkner started when asked if and when they’d need a heads up to wrap things up. “Worst case scenario, if this were the last aired season of Fringe — and as we’ve said before, there are other outlets where we could continue our stories, be they graphic novels or webisodes — we know what the end of this season is going to be, and it can function as a series finale.”

Pinkner said that last season’s capper likewise could have served as an apropos out for the sci-fi saga. “Had Peter, the lynchpin for the reason the show existed, been the one to sacrifice himself heroically to save the two universes and the woman he loved, it would have been a very authentic end.”

Fox president Kevin Reilly, when fielding questions about Fringe‘s fate, said the show has been a “point of pride” for him, as boss of a network that famously has let down genre-TV fans. Alas, Fringe is “an expensive show” that is not yielding a profit, he noted, “and we’re not in the business of losing money.”

Reilly said that conversations with Fringe‘s creative team and production studios have yet to take place. But Abrams, for one, says he’s “crossing [his] fingers” that the story of Peter, Olivia, Walter et al “gets to continue — and if not on Fox, maybe somewhere else.”

If Chuck could get a 13 episode fifth season, Fringe should also be able to. Bring it up to an even 100 episodes.

I guess we should prepare for the worst. Since this is FOX

Fox President is complaining the show isn't making money when they moved it to Friday? Whowouldathunkit?

Chuck was also pulling in 2 million more viewers an episode on a network where those ratings were acceptable. Barely.

Chuck also wasn't shipped off to a friday timeslot before this season. :o

When a network moves a show to Friday. They move it to kill it

Well, it was nice while it lasted. **** FOX STRAIGHT TO HELL'S DARK UNDERBELLY!!!

This **** is making it hard to get excited for Alcatraz cause even if it makes it past it's first season it will end up suffering the same fate as fringe is. I'm tired of investing in shows on Fox only to get a crappy ending to the series because Fox insists on killing every good show they get.

What better epitaph can be written but that?:cmad: I was praying for at least a season 5 to end the story properly (even a 13 episode season 5), but it doesn't look like this is ever going to happen. I wanted to have hope, but then again I had hope for Lie To Me & Human Target too....:whatever::csad::doh:

I feel you, this ******** is too much.

:doh:I almost asked if the problem wasn't that Fox arbitrarily and maliciously cancelled its good shows, but that for some reason people just don't tune in to the network (except for the ******ed song & dance "competitions"); but then I realized alot of people (much like me) don't tune in because we often assume "It's on Fox? Yeah they're gonna **** with it :whatever:."

Why do fans always have to act like entitled jerks? I was surprised when Fox renewed it last time (surprised but very glad as I love the show) since the numbers have been very low for quite some time. This show has lasted four seasons, it's not like Fox didn't give it a chance to shine. If genre fans always complain even when their shows have been given a fair shot then it just makes it less likely that TV execs will green light those kind of series.

I hope that Fringe gets another season but I'd settle for a quick cancellation now while there is still time to write a proper ending for the series. I hate not getting closure on series :(
