FX Lands X-Men: The Last Stand
Source: Variety
July 31, 2006

Variety reports that FX has bought TV rights for X-Men: The Last Stand:

Hell-bent on bolstering its reputation as the most aggressive cable-network buyer of theatrical pics, FX has ponied up about $90 million to buy nine titles from 20th Century Fox, led by the blockbuster sequels "X-Men: The Last Stand" and "Ice Age: The Meltdown."

FX recently engineered deals for exclusive cable TV rights to recent movies such as "Superman Returns," "Click" and "Snakes on a Plane."

Other titles in the 20th bundle include "The Devil Wears Prada," "Big Momma's House 2" and "The Omen." Most of the pics become available to FX in 2009 on a four-year license term. HBO gets the titles next year in the 18-month exclusive pay TV window.

FX will shell out 10%-12% of domestic box office for the 20th titles. Cabler license fee on "X-Men: Last Stand" has been capped at $24 million. ("Last Stand" has grossed $233 million in the U.S.)

Well...I guess we can expect for X-men to be playing on FX in a couple of years.

I thought I was making a thread on rights for an X-Men TV series when I made this lol. :p

I feel stooopid now. :(

it was the wolverine and the X-men right?
These rights are only for X3 and not Wolverine, unless you're making the usual joke about X3 being another episode of 'Wolverine and Friends'.  :O

Cabler license fee on "X-Men: Last Stand" has been capped at $24 million.

Add 24 million to the X3 bank. That doesn't even include the pay channel fees. X3's totals are truly impressive. After the Wolverine and Magneto spin-offs hit, it'll be fun to see if Marvel files litigation to get the rights back to X-Men or if they'll amicably decide to make X4. My guess is that Fox/Marvel will stay on good terms and X4 will hit in 2010/2011.

That's a hefty addition. All this money and they delay/decide not to continue the franchise. I can't understand it.

I'm hoping Marvel can somehow grab the rights back from Fox and work with a more production friendly studio.

I didn't see this when it came out for Supes. X3's cap of $24m compares favourably. It looks like they used a similar '12% of domestic gross' type formula to work it out based on a $200m + domestic box office for X3.

FX Buys Superman Returns Cable TV Rights
Source: Variety

FX has bought the cable TV rights to Superman Returns six months in advance of its June 30 theatrical premiere, reports Variety.

The network has agreed to pay Warner Bros. Domestic Cable about 12% of the eventual domestic gross, with a cap at between $17 million and $25 million, depending on the contract's length of term and on whether Warner finds another buyer to share the window with FX.

The channel gets the first burst of "Superman" runs in its TV premiere early in 2009.

FX previously bought rights to Spider-Man 2, Batman Begins, Fantastic Four and X2: X-Men United.

Superman Returns will appear on HBO next year in the exclusive pay TV window as part of HBO's output deal with Warner Bros. Pictures.
FX seem to like their comic book movies.
