G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra possibly in huge trouble

Supposedly an update:

**lots of stuff**

It's great to finally get some positive news in here after all the negativity. If the movie is screening well with test audiences, then that is definitely a good sign, and I'll take Lorenzo's word over some two-bit message board rumor any day of the week.

Also, I think it's really dumb that so many people want this movie to fail and are actually investing anger in it. It's not like Dragonball Evolution or Wolverine where there were leaked copies or anything like that that showed how bad they were. All we know about GI Joe is what Paramount has shown us, and that it did well in test screenings. Sommers may be a bad writer, but he didn't write this movie, and his movies are fun. I remember the first time I saw The Jungle Book I had a total blast, and when I saw The Mummy it blew me away. They weren't deep or thought provoking films, but they were very enjoyable and had charm and personality to them. Sommers knows how to make a fun film, and he knows how to give the audience characters that they like to watch. There are things about this movie that piss me off, but I think that overall it's in good hands.

Which could make what you just said a lie...which could mean he was telling the truth.

Hmm...

Either way, regardless of who might be telling the truth or lying I'll be seeing this in the theatre with a soda and a hot dog or popcorn.

It's from the guy who did the Mummy, so I'm not expecting depth. It's like going into Transformers and you know it was directed by Michael Bay, you know what to expect...some dumb summer fun. :)

Lol... I'm more inclined to believe the person who is actually at risk of having to suffer repercussions from lying.

Paramoubnt should have fired Sommers. They should create a new quality gauge for their movies. All films must be as good as JJ Abram's STAR TREK or better

settle down....not every film can reinvent the wheel and each film is good or bad in its own way...from the tiny indie film to the big budget Baysplosion

I said or better...

STAR isn't the greatest film. It's just a good film whose quality should be easily surpassed by other films. Instead, people like Sommers are content with feeding people absolute garbage

Same problem with Micheal Bay. Made a fun, action movie? Ok! Good!! Now fill it to the brim of toilet humor and crude language...

but I need that sometime

when you eat filet mignon every night, it ceases to be special

Yea there is nothing wrong with light hearted action movies. Sure they should still be well written and well directed movies. But c'mon, this is GI Joe and ****ing Transformers we are talking about here. Do you expect TDK levels of social commentary and depth?

some do...I'm all for depth, but I need a proper context for it....one of my favorite movies is an HBO movie called "Weapons of Mass Distraction"....it stars Sir Ben Kingsley and Gabriel Byrne as rival media moguls and is a great commentary on the medias effect on society

Filet Mignon? Hardly! Bay's film's are like deep fried peanut butter sandwitches...
Unhealthy and disgusting... yet somehow enjoyable... though less than a regular one

There are plenty of times when you don't want something fancy that some French guy came up with, and you just want to chomp down a nice greasy pizza or cheeseburger. Transformers and GI Joe were dumb but fun Saturday morning cartoons, which should make for dumb but fun summer movies. A dumb fun movie is not the same thing as a movie that is so bad it flat out insults you for being intelligent. There's sometimes a fine line between the two, but I'm optimistic that GI Joe will be more along the lines of Transformers and not Wolverine.

Exactly...people don't get this

The reason Transformers and GI Joe seemed deep to you back then was because you were younger and really hadn't seen anything deep at that point

I think you guys may be on to something. I mean at least it's not Dragon ball

You went the opposite way of what I intended the point to be...Filet mignon would be excellent films like The Godfather, Gladiator, etc....yes those are great, but I like greasy burgers like 'Feast' on occasion

Nail on the head with the bold.

But I think Wolverine is better than Transformers.

I like burgers too. The problem I have have with Transformers to be specific is the potty humor. Bumblebee lubricating, the stereotypical fat black kid who is the equivalent of Denise Richard's scientist character from Tomorrow Never Dies i.e. a character that does not look like or seem like capable of doing the things he does....

is it because he's fat....or black...?? is that what you're trying to say??

no character will ever be as bad as Denise Richards playing a nuclear physicist

Don't get me started on the Hispanic soldier with rosemary beads. ULTIMATE CLICHE EVER!!!

What's wrong with Bumblebee lubricating? It's dumb humour that appeals to kids. And guess what? Transformers and it's ilk appeal to kids.

I think children would rather see adult role models and have Bumblebee act like a big brother for sorts whose brave, noble and all sorts of good stuff.

Not a ruffian who pees on people for fun...

Also, about the fat black kid. Turns out I meant personality. He came off more as a juvenile delinquent that a computer genius.

Peeing is funny. Kids find that funny. Transformers are for kids. Nuff freaking said. :hehe:
