G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra possibly in huge trouble

Not really. In an EW power hollywood issue he said he shouldn't have done MIB 2 and Bad Boys 2 and basically publically disowned his work in the movie.

Also, I'm tired of people acting like Michael Bay is this brilliant competent filmmaker now because of their fan ******* over Transformers.

Also in 2003, Bad Boys 2 was a rather significant underperformer/disappointment. So it wasn't like an "everyone loved it except critics" type of thing.

Ive been a fan of his since 'The Rock'....I like his action films and that is what he's good at

TheVileOne, have you ever said anything remotely positive about anything? Ever?

I'm not a massive fan of Bay but he does what he does and he does it well. If you go to a Michael Bay film and expect a brilliant, nuanced story or anything but balls to the wall action, then well, you are a idiot.

Ace of Knaves. I have plenty of times. Its not my fault you like so many posters here refuse to acknowledge when I do. And that's your fault. Go into the Iron Man forums or the Avengers forums. Go into the other ones and look at my posts.

I'm tired of defending myself over this ****.

Don't call me a ****ing idiot because I think action movies can be both action packed as well as creative, clever, and intelligent. If that's the case I don't get why people universally trash Stephen Sommers here but orgasm over Michael Bay.

Ok sorry.

Yes action movies can be creative, clever and intelligent. But IMO not all of them HAVE to be to be entertaining. And I definitely don't orgasm over Bay, like I said, I'm not a massive fan of his work. But he is good at what he does and that is create insane action sequences that I don't think many if any other directors could do.

If he really was as bad as some people make out though, would he still be getting these big budgets to play with and all that? The guy can put on a show and entertain people.

And I'm not calling people stupid if they think a action movie can't have those things you mentioned. I'm calling people stupid that actually pay to go see a Michael Bay movie and expect those things. If you don't dig his work, don't watch it. End of.

And for the record, I liked the first Mummy movie.

Good for him. Bad Boys 2 and The Island were still two of the biggest pieces of trash action movies I've ever seen. Pearl Harbor was a massive disappointment, for Bay as well since he hoped that movie would make him more legit.

I generally don't. I'm not paying to see Transformers 2.

I would hope that none of the people who constantly piss and moan about Transformers would go see the sequel.

But since I know how much enjoyment people get out of doing just that, I won't put it past them lol...

Believe me, even the people who say they will neverwatch it will in fact watch it. Same with Watchmen, a few fans said they will never watch that movie...lol, I bet they saw it opening weekend and just won't admit to it. When a film is based on something you like or grew up with there is always that level of curiosity to check it out regardless if you constantly yell how stupid or unfaithful it looks.

I'll give people the first one. They may have thought maybe Transformers would be more than what they thought and gave it a chance. Okay. If you hate the first one but see the sequel in the theater it's tough to sympathize.

That kind of goes into the territory of what BlackLantern and The Ace of Knaves have been saying though. You should know what a Michael Bay film is like, the fact that he directed it is the only clue or hint you need to know to realize exactly what kind of film it will be.

At that point there really is no excuse. But there are people who claim to like a couple of Bay's movies and also whine about Transformers.

And I think that's ridiculous. You can make legitimate arguments against Transformers and you shouldn't be called a moaner for doing so.

Also the director of this movie, Stephen Sommers. His movies are arguably very similar fare to Michael Bay. Yet people don't use this YOU KNOW WHAT THEY ARE CHECK YOUR BRAIN AT THE DOOR attitude argument BS.

When people call Bay a hack, and continually watch his movies, you kind of have to just laugh at them.

After the Mummy films I personally feel that way about Sommers as well. I think his films, like Bay's, are mindless fun...Bay's films tend to have a bit more balls to them though. :)

Agreed!

Why is it funny? A person continually subjecting themselves to something they hate when it can be easily avoided is funny.

It's like saying golf is the worst sport ever and then spending the day watching the Masters on tv.

Michael Bay is that hot girl that treats you like crap, yet still intrigues you even though you are fully aware of how superficial she is.

The difference between Bay and directors like McG and Ratner is that he never pretends that his **** is going to have depth or dramatic pathos. He will tell you in the ****in' interview that it's a slam bag eye candy spectacle and nothing more.

That's kind of not true when you look at how he acted about Pearl Harbor and how disappointed he was about doing Bad Boys 2.

I would say Bay is more like a used car salesman that sells fancy cars with crappy insides. He hopes the consumer is entranced with the exterior long enough to buy his junk.

Great analogy.

I look at Michael Bay movies as a genre of their own. If you don't like that genre, don't watch it. Simple.

If you like the Transformers concept but wish Bay's movies were more than empty spectacle then it's like loving golf but hating the Master's and watching the Master's anyway because you love golf.

It's understandable to watch something lacking if your a big fan of the original. It's not like they make live-action Transformer movies everyday.

Personally I don't care if Uwe Boll directed Transformers I'd sit through it just to see live action Transformers.

I mean how many Batman fans have seen "Batman and Robin". It doesn't mean it's the ideal Batman movie.

But I and others don't see the point of watching a movie that you KNOW isn't going to meet your expectations, then acting all surprised and *****ing about it.

If you love Hawaiian pizza and there's only one pizza shop that sells it you're probably going to eat it even if it doesn't taste all that great.

You still want great Hawaiian pizza, rather than barely passable Hawaiin pizza.

No one is acting surprised. We sat through a weak interpretation of transformers because it's the only live-action version available. Completely understandable if you're a life long fan.

As a Star Wars fan you're obligated to sit through bad Star Wars movies. It's interesting as a fan to see where they went wrong and how it could be improved.

It's not a complete waste of time but it isn't above criticism either.
