G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra possibly in huge trouble

Fair enough.

But although I'm not a massive fan of the first Transformers, I don't think it's weak. It was basically exactly like the cartoons except in live action.

I mean, the stories and dialogue in the cartoon were not exactly ground breaking were they? So don't expect that in the movie and you will enjoy it a lot more.

When I think of a live action Transformers movie I think of insane action sequences first and foremost. I think we got that.

Well the cartoon and comics had characters that were distinguishable from one another.

It had themes of anti-imperialism and environmentalism, it wasn't just a cheap army commercial/monster movie. At least Bay could have the Decepticons raiding the Earth's oil rigs for power.

It had characters who paralleled human society and human questions regarding loyalty, life creation, misplaced trust, endless war, innate ancestral wisdom, innate allegiance, nationalism, the nature of life itself, ambition and legacy. Transformers conveyed these themes through their interactions with each other and with humans. Bay has made a monster movie where the machines lack any parallels to humans.

The origin of Transformer society is more interesting than anything Bay has attempted. Autobots were a worker class who rebelled against the military class (the Decepticons) because they wanted live autonomous lives. Why would Bay ignore this? Because he identifies with the "military class".

This is the worst... *nom nom nom* ... Hawaiian ....*nom nom* .... pizza ever... *nom nom nom*

keep chomping away then

not every action movie needs to be reinventing the wheel groundbreaking stuff....sometimes things just need to blow up good....if I want something deep and meaningful, Ill go watch independent film

more like "This Hawaiin pizza could be much better but this is the only place that sells it." :yay:

Random stuff blowing up gets old after 20 minutes let alone 2 hours. You need a decent plot or compelling conflict to keep those explosions interesting for 2 hours.

sometimes you get that (The Rock) and sometimes you don't (The Island)...Im still a bit ticked that The Island was as bad as it was, considering the "story" it could have been tons better

what gets me is that people completely misuse the term "hack" when they want to trash Bay....a hack is someone who steals others ideas and adopts them as his own...there are things that Bay started doing in action movies that others have used....so it really makes no sense to call him a "hack"....you can call him plenty of other names though

Yea, and? I'm not talking about quality here, I'm saying that obviously a lot more people enjoyed it than didn't.

The ONLY people I have ever seen complain about Transformers are people on forums.

And you can't compare the two. Phantom Menace was insanely anticipated, following up from a much loved franchise, it was always gonna have big numbers whether it was a pile of dog **** or not. Transformers never had a live action film before.

It's true. Hack is a pretty specific term, one that doesn't really apply to Bay whether you like him or not.

No, a hack throws together a movie that lacks artful direction.

That definition fits Bay to a tee.

He the Rob Liefeld of movie directing but instead of overcompensating with extra pouches he overcompensates with loud noises and explosions.

Liefeld isn't a hack because he is a crap artist. Liefeld is a hack because he used to copy other peoples work, change it slightly and claim it was completely original.

You may hate Bay, but he definitely doesn't copy other peoples work or ideas then claim it was entirely from his imagination.

No...that's just being lazy....the definition of hack, from what I've read/heard is a director who takes techniques from other films and adopts them as his own, usually with poor results....from a merely aesthetic standpoint, most of Bays movies look great....from wardrobe to locations to sets

Ace Knaves. In the same paragraph you say Liefeld isn't a hack and that he is. So which is it.

What? I said he can't be called a hack just because because he is a crap artist. Because crap doesn't = hack. Like what messiahdecoy was saying.

He is a hack because he used to copy other peoples stuff and claim it was his original works.

I was using it to demonstrate that you cannot compare Liefeld and Bay. Because Bay doesn't copy other peoples work and claim it as his own. You can call Bay crap, but you can't call him a hack.

Wrong. BlackLantern already explained it well enough in one of his posts on this page.

Once again another throw around term that most people don't know the meaning of.
