Rise of the Silver Surfer GALACTUS Discussion

Well, Carp Man, I'm glad to see someone else my age on this board! I too am glad to see the FF finally made it to film, and I have no problem with the 2005 film. I am looking forward to the sequel and no nay-sayer is going to spoil it for me. Even if Doom does look a bit like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.

HATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:o :oldrazz:

OK, I've been hiding under a rock for a little while so I'm not sure what this Galactus thing is all about...the gist of it seems to be - he's gonna appear in the movie as a cloud thing, right?

Didn't Tim Story say, in Empire Magazine I think, that this movie is more about the Silver Surfer and it sets up Galactus' appearence in the next movie?? So, isn't it possible that he appears in cloud form at the end of this movie and then in his human form in the next?? It would be cool if it looked like the "Independence Day" cloud and then in the third one, he emerges as the Galactus we all recognise. Though maybe a little smaller. A giant man is a little unbelievable - even for a superhero movie!

Say that to Zack Snyder, who's planning to put a giant Dr. Manhattan in at least two entire scenes of Watchmen. :o

If you can believe a man whose head is a skull on fire, who glides up with his motorcycle on fire by the side of a building, and things like that, you can accept a giant man. :woot:

Or are they thinking about taking it from the Avengers movie too?

As far as Doom in the 1 picture I saw in the armor. If that is indeed how he looks, it is a vast improvement, and a good improvement. Some will not be happy no matter what they do, but at least they are trying. I think they learned from the last movie, and I think they will nail it this time. First one was done on a shoe string. This one you can tell Fox put out some serious bucks, ( serious for Fox ), and I think it will pay off.

Isn't it "HATR"?

Anyway, I understood that Doom will have many "looks" in this film, so I'm not concerned at all. I'm gonna just sit there, enjoy the movie and have some popcorn.

You and me both.

Yeah, I'm with you. I mean look at some of these fan designs
Awesome!:ff:  That's how i personally would like to see Galactus, true to the original Kirby design.
Apparently.

I've been at this site for a little while now....here is how it goes....

A movie is announced to be in production
A lot of people start complaining that it won't be done right.
Names of director and actors are announced.
A lot of people complain that they aren't right for the roles.
Pics are released of the production.
A lot of people complain that it doesn'tl ook right.
A rumor about the production hits the web.
A lot of people complain that this will ruin the movie.

It's the worst thing that can happen, they aren't right, they can't act, he can't direct, he can't write, that's the wrong color, that's the wrong person, her hair isn't right, he isn't big enough, that's the stupidist thing in the world, it's not enough like the comic........
Football (soccer) and other sports fans can be just as bad if not worst with nitpicking.
Is anyone actually glad that comic books are being turned into movies?
I am.:hyper: But i also want to see them done right and with respect. The majority have been IMO but it's hard (near impossible) to please everyone.

If you threw in every comic book fans wetdream into one movie i bet it would suck.:o So we can't have it our way though you do try. If that makes any sense (it's late).

I don't know - cos' the whole Ghost Rider thing was kinda Supernatural from the start, it made it OK! And his skull being on fire was kind of essential to the plot. I kinda look at Galactus the same way as I look at the Shiar in X-Men...you bring aliens in and it just makes the whole thing more difficult to swallow. The audience already has to believe in superpowered humans and now giant men from outer space?? I dunno, maybe it would be OK, I mean, we all LOVE the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man right? And he's tall.

And the Silver Surfer is... well, an alien on a flying surfboard. I'm not sure this is that much crazier. :)

FF2 Pressnotes said:
Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor Scott Squires, who worked closely with Weta in creating the Silver Surfer, also supervised many of the film’s other state-of-the-art effects, including enhanced powers for the Four; mile-long, perfectly-smooth craters – the handiwork of the Surfer; and the creation of Galactus (also known as The World Destroyer), another character long-known to comics fans as a being of incredible power and scale. “It was a delicate balance meeting the comics fans’ expectations for the look of Galactus, and making him truly spectacular and cinematic to those not familiar with the character,” says Squires.

Hmm, hmm.

I read the whole pressnotes through and found this too:

The Fantasticar makes its feature film debut in FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER. After Reed Richards unveils this latest invention to the rest of the team in his high-tech Baxter Building lab, they ultimately employ it in their global quest to prevent the destruction of the Earth by Galactus. It becomes a key element in a battle in the sky involving the Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, Doom and Galactus.

Thanks for sharing that Rac.
VERY interesting indeed. Those qoutes sound promising but i'm not getting my hopes up yet.:thing:

What do you think of this Galactus?

Baldasseroni is one of the best Italian 3D artists and animators and worked on the Galactus cinematic model for the game Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

Holy Toledo!:wow:  The helmet is a little too big but other than that it's great.

   THANK YOU!!!!

Those above quotes sound promising, but I don't expect I will be satisfied with Galactus. If we were going to be happy, they'd be pushing him more than they are.

Well, the main diff between the X-Men and the Fantastic 4 is that the X-Men are a product of human evolution and that's where their essential conflicts lie. The Fantastic Four are products of--ironically--a sPace cloud. Therefore it's not such a big leap for them to fight superpowered aliens.

I wonder how much it would cost to rent out a place up there?

Yeah, and the novel already tells us one thing we'll be disappointed about regarding Galactus no matter how he looks - the way he's defeated.

I mean, obviously he can't be that sentient or that bright if he gets confused when Silver Surfer flies away and automatically follows him. "Oh, whoops! I guess since my herald is leaving, I'm not allowed to eat here. Better follow." WTF?
