Galactus IS going to show up in this film per Tom Rothman!!!

And they were. Well, one was. :whatever: So he needed to change it from the plural form to the singular one...but it would be unfair to say he lied. We did have a Sentinel in X3.

No offense to Ioan, but he didn't even know if Galactus had a physical form. :whatever: That tells me that Ioan wouldn't know what he looked like if Galactus was standing right in front of his face...and you guys want to put your stock in believing what he says about the character's appearance in this film?

I think not. :o Galactus may not be fully shown in this film, but give me another credible source...perhaps someone like Tim Story, Payne, one of the SFX guys, or....even Thom Rothman before one of the actors.

Besides, if Galactus is being done via CGI and only has interraction with the film's other predominately-CGI character (Silver Surfer) why would one of the actors be necessarily know about it? It wouldn't affect them at all.

Well in the story that Fox is (apparently loosely) adapting, the FF attempt an assault on Galactus while Johnny fetches the Ultimate Nullifier, with which Mr. Fantastic (Ioan) directly confronts Galactus with...

So if this story were being done properly and respectfully, Ioan would be well aware of Galactus' involvement in the movie, as he has dialogue with that character...

Again; Im not opposed to Galactus being confronted in a third movie, but one of the producers said that this would be a finite Surfer story, leading me to believe that The Surfer will strike out on his own to fight Galactus in his OWN movie, which is what Fox really wants...

But i didn't only read it, i saw it being said too. :yay:

I understand. What imean is that alot of things are "said" in Hollywood to build excitement and intrigue that aren't necessarily true.

Regardless, the situations with FF & POTC are different. Barbosa appearing at the end of P2 is'nt integral to the story as an appearance by Galactus should be.

If Galactus plays any significant role in this film, then Ioan, playing the male lead role should know about it. If he doesn't, then Galactus plays no meaningful role, which means that as far as I'm concerned he's not in the film.
So unless Reed Richards has direct contact with Galactus then Galactus' role can't possibly be meaningful? I don't understand. We've known for months that they are not adapting just FF #48-50 and that a showdown with Galactus (i e Galactus arriving in the flesh) was probably not in the cards for this picture. Galactus' arrival doesn't have to be immediate as far as I'm concerned. And with all the stuff going on with Doom, I wouldn't want Galactus shoehorned in there anyway. We need an entire film to address the threat of Galactus.

This flash or whatever of Galactus that folks here keep mentioning is nothing. It's as pointless as an actress' nipple slip as she puts on a robe.
Yeah, it's just like that.

I can't wait to see how they handle Galactus' "non-appearance" now.

It's become fairly obvious that they are very loosely adapting that story.

So if this story were being done properly and respectfully, Ioan would be well aware of Galactus' involvement in the movie, as he has dialogue with that character...

Properly and respectfully? I wish.

Without twice the budget and a hands-off studio that apprecaites and respects the material, there's no way anything approaching the greatness of FF #48-50 could possibly be produced. :csad:
By comparison, it's gonna be like watching "A Streetcar Named Desire" starring Weebles.
All I can hope for is they make those Weebles look really cool.
(And that we aren't subjected to a squirrel covering his eyes as the Surfer flies past. ;) )

Well That's exactly my problem. You have an epic, classic, wonderful, action packed, intense, and captivating story in the original comics with regards to Galactus and Silver Surfer why change anything?" it seems to me that if you don't respect that it will ruin it.
so far it looks like they will not try to bring that story to life in the same was that 300, sin city, the crow, Spider-man, etc have brought the comics to life.
History tells me that whatever they come up with will be lame and boring in comparison.
IMO the melding of two classic FF story lines diminishes each and dilutes the potential of any FF movie. mixing the arrival of SS, the coming of Galactus, with the other epic tale when Doom steals SS's power will just lessen the threat of each.
Who is the main threat? who is the main villain? if it's 2 people, that can't help but make one less of a threat.
It amazes me that they didn't learn the lesson that mixing Doom in places where he doesn't belong, like the origin story, is a HUGE mistake.
LET DOOM BE DOOM.
I am not very optimistic

The same question I had in regards to X-Men, Hulk, Daredevil and Spider-man. In every case, unnecessary liberties were taken with the material. In most cases, those liberties were ruinous in my estimation.
For my money, only the Spider-man films have pulled it off with any great success.

But to be fair, I was one of those "outraged" fans when I read about the organic webbing. In retrospect, I find that less bothersome than the dreadful Goblin mask.
And at first I was alarmed that Otto Octavius started out as a nice guy in SM2. But that worked out pretty well, I thought.

Changes aren't always bad.
Bad changes are bad.
I think FF2 could still go either way at this point.

And what you're describing about Galactus is what I've been addressing- which is an insignificant cameo appearance in the film. Galactus' importance is in the threat he represents. I doubt they'll spend the money simply to show him pointing the Surfer toward Earth or whatever.

True, I understand what your saying and I realized it after I had posted. I know that there is no way that they can truly put the classic storyline on film correctly but I am hoping that the script is really good and can give a sense of the storylines that they are adapting. Personally, I am not sure that I want to see Galactus in the film except for at the very end but I do want the threat of Galactus to be hovering over the movie, so that there is a sense that a far greater danger is on it's way. The reports have been contradictary from some of the players. One says it is a finite movie, one infers that it is open ended so Galactus can appear in a later fillm. Only time will tell and I hope they really do this movie justice and it's not just a summer popcorn flick.

I'll put it this way- when REAL MOVIES are made, a screenplay is written that completely explains the story, presents all the dialogue, and describes all the characters, their relationships and interaction.

If Galactus plays any significant role in this film, then Ioan, playing the male lead role should know about it. If he doesn't, then Galactus plays no meaningful role, which means that as far as I'm concerned he's not in the film. This flash or whatever of Galactus that folks here keep mentioning is nothing. It's as pointless as an actress' nipple slip as she puts on a robe.
Moreover, if Story et al had done any design work, CG tests or whatever with Galactus, why wouldn't Ioan know anything about it? Not even having seen a sketch? it makes no sense.

What are we missing here.

Ok lets connect the dots. I made fun of Rothman and the truth earlier but in actuality a lot of the times when we accuse these guys of lying we are the ones who are in the wrong (Sometimes).

The reason, we know this is that the way movies are made these days is very fluid. As winter himself or some second unit director said, films begin shooting without a final script and the script is worked on with major revisions sometimes right before the final act. This happened in X3 when they moved the opening scene, a major rewrite from the beginning to the end. that must have changed the whole scope of the movie.

So this is what we have. Winter said last year the script was not done like two weeks before shooting started. At that time we were like what. We now know this happens all the time.

So Loan and the other actors recieved a script that was most likely not the final script but covered their roles and interactions.

Obviously given the vagaries on Galactus that we have heard so far, there was a lot of discussion on how to present Galcatus, all of this not showing him just using his presence sounds like a budget issue with everything else that they have in this movie.

It sounds to me like the production is at a fluid stage. They don't know how the final cut will look. If they think like the first FF1 that they have to throw money at other major areas, that might influence the whole Galactus discussion that is obviously going on inhouse.

This probably explains why we are hearing all of these conflicting statements.

Tom Rothman must really think that Galactus is going to be in it, but Ralph Winter the producer must be aware that he is working against a budget and time. As he said now they have to deliver the thing. Given that I can see a scenario like this:

Ralph and Tim Story go to the meeting with the final cut. They view it and say perfect. Ralph then tells the suits they came in five million over budget due to the additional work involved in cleaning up the problem with the SS's NADS, lol and then asks for 10 million to animate the Galactus integration into the movie and the reshoots that will be necessary. He gurantees that this will take the movie over the top.

Rothman then says, I thought Galactus was always going to be in it at the budget they proposed. Ralph reminds him of the huge problem they had with the SS in those few frames.

Rothamn then comes back and says, ok they have me on film so the money is yours.

Or Rothman comes back and says, Hell now they will know i don't care that they think I lied cause I know that was not my intention but I am the chief and I promised my board to stick to my budget and I like my job, so unfortunately no 10 million for you so leave Galactus as just a mention.
(presence) in the movie.

This is just my anlysis of what is going on, it's a guess but I think that it is an educated guess.

Ummmm....I confused.

You may be right highguard, but they should still have an idea if he is in it by this point. Why the contradictory statement?

I guess we will see how it all plays out. I hope he is not in it (this will become a crammed movie if he is), and that he will be done better in the SS franchise. I don't want that cliffhanger crap. FF has more stories than this one, don't spend two movies on it. That takes away the FF's spotlight a bit.

No his role won't be meaningful without contact with Earth.

And we should have gotten an entire film addressing Galactus. You've read the original stories. They didn't need to use Doom for this one. They SHOULDN'T use Doom. Deal with Galactus first and then let Doom steal the Surfer's powers in the next film. It makes more sense that way for both characters.

As I mentioned in the other thread, making the Surfer vulnerable at this point kills his importance in the Galactus story. And in regards to your response- yes of course the surfer gets his powers back. But we'll have seen him defeated by two Earthlings, so he doesn't get his presence back. If after Galactus he's taken down by Doom, it's okay, since we know he's lost his invulnerability. Dramatically it makes sense and works with the Surfer's evolution as a character. Such as hings are right now, they're moving backward with the Surfer.

I agree with everything but your first line.
Yes, they've done it all backasswards.
But in the context of this questionable "fusing" of the 2 stories, I think they at least need to define (and possibly show) Galactus.

Maybe Surfer won't really be "defeated" by Doom. I'm hoping Doom will unexpecgedly (and uninentionally) absorb the power cosmic as the Surfer is reviving him from the hot freeze. (I've seen nothing to indicate this, it's just a thought.)

I completely agree that they could end up watering down the character of the Surfer by going this route, however.

After hearing Bolivar Trask was going to be in the movie i got excited about the Sentinels comment.

I finally got the video to work. He says Ioan's comments are inaccurate and he also says Galactus won't not show up.WTF?

I know. I'm scratching my head on it too. Very confusing...and I give up. :(

That is their idea. To confuse fan's & give them hope. Would anyone seriously believe what anyone from FOX says after what happened with X-Men The Last Stand ? Tom Rothman especially is the last person I would listen to or believe.

I'll take Gruffold's word over Rothman's any day. Sounds like typical Rothman damage control BS.

Heck, I'd take Tommy Flanagan's word over Rothman's too. Yeah, that's the ticket...

I am worried that Doom's powers which allows him to absorb ambient energy allows him to absorb the power cosmic at which point he should be able to handle Galactus as well: Reed will probably invent somemachine to defeat the power cosmic.

This would mean that there is nothing the human mind cannot overcome.....not that I would enjoy that too much.

Galactus will probably show up like Shao Kahn in the Mortal Kombat movie!:cwink:
