Game of Thrones - HBO part 2

I really believe Arya has a big role to play in the books.

Someone on another board suggested that the Faceless may send her to kill Jon at some point; either as the final test or because they were hired to. I think that's an interesting theory, and one that could really bring her back from the brink

I think that's a given; seeing as how she's consistently been part of the story since the very beginning (indeed, I suspect all the original POV characters who survive to the last book will have a role in the story's conclusion). Regarding what you said in the spoiler tag:

I suspect she will ultimately fail in her training; being unable to fully give up her identity since she is bonded with her direwolf.

Ironically, what Ned was doing wouldn't at all be protecting Joffrey (or his two siblings) at all. Had Cersei fled (presumably back to her father), Robert would have come after them; leading to a Baratheon-Lannister war; in which the remaining six kingdoms would have all supported their king since it was obvious who was right and wrong. Robert would have won, and Joffrey would probably have been executed to mark the end of the dispute.

Had Ned just gone straight to Robert, the matter would have been resolved within King's Landing (assuming it would be made public in the first place). Here, Ned would be able to convince that the children were at least innocent and perhaps recommend them simply to be banished to Casterly Rock (House Lannister's seat of power), or perhaps the Wall for Joffrey.

Robert couldn't afford to come after them. They would be safe at Casterly Rock so long as Tywin kept paying the king's bills (so to speak)

But... if Ned told Robert and not Cercie... Robert would have killed her in a fit of rage and probably killed the kids. Remember that Ned is Robert's oldest friend and he knows how Robert thinks... so telling Cersie seemed like mercy to him.

Thank you! I just adore her.

Arya has quickly become one of my favourite characters. I am only a quarter of the way through Clash of Kings currently... but MAN do I perk up when I see her name at the beginning of a chapter.

roberts biggest mistake was not having at least ONE person witness his proclomation of making Ned protector of the realm....all ned had was a piece of paper with the kings seal, which he has easy access to

And the king's signature... Neds problem is that he didn't have the right people backing his play... everyone was in on the cruel joke about to be played on him (except for ser Barristan) Barristan even questions the queen on her actions... but nobody else backs his play either...

I love Tyrion.

"How would you like to die?"
"In my bed at the age of 80...with a woman's mouth around my cock."

Great line!! How could you not laugh at that?

i love that they kept the line about Jamie covering himself in glory....charles dance could cut glass with that glare

Yeah, it seems like Ned played and failed at this game that they play at King's Landing. Ned ended up putting all his trust to Littlefinger, and guess who betrayed him? He should've had other people witnessing the proclaimation, but who could he had brought in as the witness?

Btw, I thought there'll be an inevitable war between the Starks and the Lannisters after the imprisonment of Ned Stark, but I didn't know it would develop this quickly. I'm definitely rooting for the Starks but I'm curious to know if there is any Lannister sympathizer out there as well. As much I hate the Lannisters, there are only two that I hate alot (Cersei & Joffrey), but I like Tyrion, and found it hard (thus far) to really hate Jaime and Tywin. However, I want the Wolf to win this battle really badly.

Quite the opposite, I think. If Cercei had fled to her father's, Robert would be forced to go to war to protect his dignity and authority (if he can't keep the affairs of his own family in order, how can he be fit to rule a country?). Moreover, it would be the perfect opportunity to remove the Lannisters from power; thereby removing the need to pay back his loans. Plus, why borrow from them when you can instead own their property?

I think that Tyron is awesome... and I often "sympathize" with him...but no other Lannister deserves anything other than the end of a lance in the sternum ;P

Really? Wait till you get to really know Jamie. He is by far my favorite in the family because as it goes along we see the really Knight and warrior is in their fullness. Jamie cutting loose in a fight, him being honorable and chivalrous.

I really wouldn't be getting behind the stance of hating this character or that one, it's the game and everyone gets a roll in the barrel.

Layers of the onion guys/girls, just like us non of them are really that bad ... except for those brothers Clegene, the Hound and the Mountain That Rides.

people have to realize there will be no swift and sudden revenge for the wicked....the scales will tip when its time

Jaime is a complicated character for sure but he's still a little selfish b**ch. I'll put the details in spoilers but I'll just say that he doesn't do anything that isn't self serving including all the Brienne stuff.
If he really had honor he'd go find Sansa and Arya himself. Instead he hides behind "duty" and thinks it's more important. I was so rooting for the Blackfish to put a smackdown on him in Feast. My prediction (or hope) is that he ends up at the wall and has to deal with Lord Commander Snow.

I have to say, the Starks at least by appearance seemed to be overmatched. The armies of Stark are led by Robb Stark and his mother Catalyn, whereas the Lannisters are headed by Tywin and Jaime. Even surrounded by war veterans, it looks like the advantage is with the Lannisters.

Yeah. The only advantage the Starks have is that their men won't retreat. Though I expect that to play against them.

Yeah, I agree with you and Rage. Jamie is a complex character but he still shoved an innocent child out a tower window without batting an eyelid. That isn't honourable or chivalrous. It's something he should hang for.

Also, I really like your prediction for Jaime. I'd like to see that one playing out.

However, he neither schemes nor commit rampant acts of unnecessary brutality (flaying, baby head smashing, etc) and thus (relatively speaking) comes off as one of the more decent nobles in the story.

Also, I really like your prediction for Jaime. I'd like to see that one playing out.

I think a more fitting ending for him, given his character drive, would be something along the lines as follows:

As Daenarys takes the Iron Throne (assuming she is the eventual 'winner' (or one of)), Jaime saves her life at great personal sacrifice; thus redeeming himself from the name Kingslayer and resolving the Targaryen-Lannister feud; allowing for stable peace without one of the families being wiped out.

I have a feeling that Khal Drogo's baby that everyone is hoping is a boy, will end up being a girl. :csad:

Because instead of it being the stallion, it would wind up being the mare that gets mounted by the world? :D

Damnit, I totally couldn't help but to get on wikipedia and read the book synopses. The rest of this season definitely sounds like it's going to be amazing. I needa hurry up and finish The Dark Tower books and get on to this because this show has just totally entranced me
