I think I might have to read the books to make the wait for the DVD easier.

I done went and read all the plot summaries on wikipedia, Im very pissed at myself now lol but at least I now know we are in for some serious **** to go down in this series. I'd like to read them though but knowing all the spoilers I know will take alotta the fun out of it. Plus I needa finish The Dark Tower books right now

Finally watched the episode. Holy ****. It was quite a twist. I read that R.R. Martin loves that kind of plot twists, that's why he really loved and was quite disapponted with the end of Lost. My question to those who have read the books is: Is this the biggest twist in the whole series or is it just the beginning of way bigger jaw-dropping things?

Just the beginning. It's defiantly one of the top "holy ****" moments in the series so far though.

Yeah, but a month? Must be the size of Russia. Mordor is closer to the Shire than that (not that one can simply walk into it).

Some say that Winterfell, The Gift, The Wall and the land above are together as large as Russia itself, not to mention the obvious allusions to Siberia.

It is a huge kingdom, in fact, before the union it was 7 whole countries all their own. Kinda like all of Europe deciding to have one government and putting it in some warm, protected area like with easy (but easy to control) access to the sea like southern Italy.

You're only going to have to wait a few more days for some more. This is just the beginning.

Oh and spoiling yourself on Wiki ... bad form man ... these are head and shoulders above The Dark Tower series IMO.

My brother, who just watched ep. 9, asked me if Ned Stark is dead for sure or will be back later. He thought that there's no way Ned could die since he was played by Sean Bean, probably the most famous actor in the cast.

Just watched the last ep. Please tell me Ned isn't dead...

I dont agree Ned Stark has no impact on future events. He's brought up quite often in future installments, and without giving anything away, what happened to him does resonate throughout the land and with many characters.

anyone think show may lose some viewers next week with loss of ned stark ?

I called it before the series started that people would react badly to tghe end of the story. It gets worse next ep.

That's just how this show is gonna be though. **** hits the fan and lots of people die, that's just how it's gonna be

Was Ned really that important of a character in the show? I'm surprised people are that attached to him. Sure, he was a good guy, and the only sane man in the court, but he wasn't particularly interesting.

I'm also wondering whether the next Season will actually use the name A Clash of Kings because Game of Thrones will well and truly be over at that point. Perhaps HBO should have taken a page from LotR and start the credits with A Song of Ice and Fire followed by the name of the book.

they can still use the name, it still applies considering what happens in book 2

His death almost looked like a dream sequence which is why i still question whether it's real, or not.....

An was Cercei (Headey) horrified by King Geoffrey's change of heart to execute Ned, or was it just me?

The reason for this is because he acts as the Audience Surrogate (i.e. we are introduced to the setting through his eyes, we waddle through the court intrigue through his experience, etc). So, killing him is like killing the audience.

As for the show losing audience members, I don't think that will be the case - at least not for next week. If you look at most of the complaints, it's not just that the show killed off Ned. But that Ned died after being deceived, while the perpetrators seem to be getting away scot-free. Especially since this happened right at the end of the episode, people will tune in for at least one more just to see how it all pans out (i.e. Was it just a dream? Does it somehow get reversed? Do the Lannisters get what they deserve? Will someone continue the good fight on behalf of Ned, and will they try to avenge Ned's death?). People are hard-coded to expect good to (eventually) triumph over evil. So, as long as there is a semblance of hope that this will happen at some point, they will continue to watch.

I suppose that makes sense.

And yeah, I think it's clear Cercei didn't expect or want him to be killed, since, the Northerners probably won't take it too well. But that's what you get when you raise a psychopath.

It was real and Cersei did not want Joffery to do that at all. She's smart enough to realize the s**t storm that her son just unleashed throughout the realm.

And it's why we continue to read this series. There are triumphs, many of them, but brace yourselves for the character favorites to be put through the wringer. Ned's demise is the first 'reader beware' moment in the series.
