Gangster Films Appreciation Thread

Am I the only one who finds Godfather II overrated? It's good, but hardly as good as the first.

Nope. You're not the only one. I prefer the original too. I'm not a fan of the whole Godfather Trilogy, just the first movie.

Godfather II if anything was the perfect sequel to the first Godfather now Part 3 if anything is what killed the franchise in my opinion

If any one is interested and if you haven't seen it, this film is said to have influenced The Godfather and you can definitely see the connection. It is also a great Gangster Film in its own way and just a great film, with a fantastic central performance by film legend Alberto Sordi.

The Godfather Part II overrated? IMO, HELL NO!! It's fantastic.

Two pages and no mention of:

White Heat

Gangster No 1 (2000)- Paul Bettany's star making performance. The film also features an almost recognizable Andrew Lincoln (Rick from The Walking Dead).

Brighton Rock (1947 version) Arguably Richard Attenborough's greatest performance as he reprised his stage version of gangster Pinkie for the movie.

The Long Good Friday (1980) frequently voted not just the best British gangster film but one of the best gangster movies of all time. Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren are great. The film features early appearances from Kevin McNally (Gibbs from the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise), Pierce Brosnan, Alan Ford (Bricktop from Snatch) and Dexter Fletcher (Kick Ass, Stardust, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels)

The Godfather Part II overrated? IMO, HELL NO!! It's fantastic.

I know right especially the flashback scenes of Don Vito as a little boy in Italy and Don Ciccio murdering Vito's brother and then his mother and him escaping from Don Ciccio and being hidden in Italy only to escape from Italy and ending up in America where he became Vito Corleone

But then when Vito as an adult went back to Italy for the first time in decades goes back and then gets his sweet revenge on Don Ciccio taking him out

How could you call that overrated? Or even when Fredo betrayed Michael and then Michael essentially had his brother taken out for his betrayal

We have THRREE of these coming out this year that look like they could be really good.

The Departed now that is a guilty pleasure of mine with DiCaprio, Damon, Nicholson, Sheen, Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin I mean it is a Who's Who in the sense of it being an all-star cast but at the same time showing just what it is like to be in the Irish Mob but also being undercover as a cop infiltrating the mob, such a classic

-Get Carter (1971)-Starring Sir Michael Caine.
-The French Connection-Starring Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider.

Bugsy, Warren Beatty classic now that is a movie I have yet to watch but from what I hear it is pretty good
