I think Unity trying to charge developers per install of game was the biggest factor.

Didnt they Reverse that pretty fast?
But yeah, when they announced this, they cut themself deep...many people jumped to Unreal super fast because the Trust was broken.

Sure, some made an exodus to UE but I reckon it's those who are serious about having a career in the industry (possibly in a AAA studio).

Some vastly prefer being "indie" and being part of a small team so they'll stick to Unity or use the open-source alternative Godot which also uses the C# language so the transition is easy. Some do game dev as a hobby/passion, so Unity/Godot are good enough. If we look at recent indie successes, like Silksong, Megabonk, Blue Prince, and PEAK, they are Unity-based.

The APIs between UE and Unity are so different not everyone can do the jump. Also, the C++ language is a whole different beast... Still, any good programmer will/can learn a new language.

The whole Elon Musk opened a game studio left me so completely cold because that man is a fraud.
None of his promises came through, everything he touches sucks...so im not the least bit worried or so over his alleged video game.
If he really releases a game next year or what, it will be empty slop and forgotten fast.

These greedy companies jump onto the AI train for no other reason than greed...so everyone who is all in on it, should be around when the bubble pops...and i need it to pop hard and cause them all the damage.

Besides all the ‘bad’ and buggy code, it can be downright disastrous in terms of flawed code being generated full of security holes in all software.

Hackers are gonna get plenty more to eat thanks to ‘AI’.
