I've been wondering, maybe they are chasing their tail on the "evolution" aspect. At least a little.

Perhaps, some "immortal" hero (Kensei is the current likely candidate) has travelled the globe throughout history and had offspring all over. Perhaps the heroes are all related back to one original. The "genetic marker" is actually a genetic trait passed down. People would then not be evolving powers as much as getting them passed down. Certainly every generation may change things, but we have seen some duplicate powers.

Expanding on this hypothesis. Perhaps the Company is head up by the original hero (again likely Kensei). The way they find and track those with gifts is by following his family tree. He would know that the only ones who can stop him are his desendents, so he keeps track of them. Perhaps the "original 12" banded together and eventually confronted the Company.

Here is what we know as far as family tree's go as far as people with powers

Mr Nakumura+ Mrs ?=Hiro

Maury Parkman+ Mrs ?=Matt

Mrs Petrelli+Mr ?= Nathan and Peter
Nathan and Claire's mom= Claire

This is all we know for sure correct?

I always thought those illusionary type powers were connected in some way.

Types of abilities - classification

Psychokinesis is the umbrella term under which are various related specialized abilities. These specialities include:

* Biological healing.

* Teleportation (disappearing and reappearing elsewhere).[61][62][63]

* Transmutation of matter.

* Shape-shifting.

* Energy shield (force field).

* Control of magnetism.

* Control of photons (light waves/particles).

* Thoughtform projection (a physically perceived person, animal, creature, object, ghostly entity, etc., created in the mind and projected into three-dimensional space and observable by others; for thought images allegedly placed on film, see Thoughtography).

Judging by that I would say that EVERY hero has the capability to develop everyone else's power. Every power has to do with the brain. I think the ultimate evolutionary path is that they all become like Peter Petrelli.
