George Clooney and the Coens to Hail Caesar

The only Coen Brother's film that I found to be an unredeemable waste of time was The Ladykillers. And contrary to the majority consensus, I enjoyed Intolerable Cruelty.

This review gives me hope that Hail, Caesar! will be considered as one of their classics though.

The Ladykillers was so damn stupid. I just couldn't believe a Coen Bros. movie with Tom Hanks could be so bad.

The only good thing to come out of that movie was "We must have waffles forthwith."

Yeah, the reviews for this are right on par with those two, and I totally loved both those movies so I'm not worried.

It's a good movie, entertaining. A bit flabby on the plot and indulgent at times. I enjoyed it overall.

It's good Coen bros. comedy. Not as great as say Hudsucker Proxy or O Brother or Big Lebowski, but still good.

Burn after Reading is funny but even funnier when you've worked for the government and get some of the inside jokes. Brad Pitt definitely made that movie and it kind of sucked when he exited the movie.

Some of the big name appearances in this film are sort of pointless. Jonah Hill's scene could've been completely cut. He has like two lines.

I think one of the reasons they use these bigger name actors is because they help get their movie made a lot easier. It's hard for everyone in the industry to fund original movies and the Coen's are especially no exception.

Alright, two things...

I'm not too big on the Coens. They're hit or miss for me. A Serious Man was some straight up pretentious ****. I love The Big Lebowski, Fargo, and No Country for Old Men ... And that's it. Their fans kind of remind me of Ridley Scott's fans, where it's like, "Oh, you made Blade Runner, Alien, and Gladiator... and then 20 of the okayest films ever." Lots of hype and praise for a huge resume with only a couple of highlights.

It's the Coens going back to a lighter story. I thought parts of the movie worked really well, but it's one of those where you don't really care for the main plot. The performances between the actors is really the driving force for this movie. Everyone was great and I think Alden Ehrenreich is going to be huge after this. Overall, it's not the next Big Lebowski, but it's definitely worth watching.

After seeing it I can say that the plot leaves a lot to be desired, but all the in between bits were amazing. I wish Ralph Fiennes had a bigger role. The part between him and Hobie was delicious.

Well yes, this is a lighter entry for the Coens, but like Burn After Reading, I still loved it. I agree in wishing Ralph Fiennes had a bigger part because everything with him was gold. I also loved Tilda Swinton as Thora and Thessaly. Hell everyone was great in their roles. My favorite bit though, might have been the scene with Brolin and the various religious figureheads. That was classic Coen-y goodness.

I thought this could've been a hell of a lot better than what it was. Judging from the trailers I had a feeling that this would be a comedy/mystery about a handful of people in Hollywood trying to get Clooney's character back.

I thought the acting was great, but the plot was a mess. Like it was stated above they could've cut out Jonah Hill's scene.

I think there should've been a build up for Tatum's character being a Russian. That whole thing just seemed half-assed.

I was really excited for this movie, but left really disappointed.
