George Lucas Claims Racism Reason for Lack of Studio Support for 'Red Tails'

what is the big deal about what he said anyway? He never said the movie was poor, he just said that the prequels/sequels were even better. It's just that he thinks this particular moment in time is where the story should begin to be told, where it is possibly the crux of the tale.
Hell, he knew that Revenge of the Sith was gonna be the best of the prequels, it had the most meat on the story, but he had to make the movies with the less compelling tales before he could get to that one.

It means he is desperate to get people into the seats by promising them something better if they reward him or he is so delusional that he has to try an best himself and make 1 or 2 awful movies as a way to fill some urge he has with perfection. If Lucas ever got one tiny little plastic surgery done this is what he would end up looking like 30 years from now:

Lucas did not have 6 movies mapped out before he started ep IV. Even after seeing the reaction to ep I, he continued to make crap. The man is delusional. His former self is long gone. I truly think he is so full of himself that he will watch each Star Wars movie every few years and think hey...we need a cgi lizard here or we need to add some more stars in the sky. And then re-release a new edition that is current to his state of mind.

Lets see how many more editions of Star Wars he comes out with before he dies and is buried in Jedi robes. I would bet he changed **** for the 3D release of each movie.

Which one is he? A pathological liar or an OCD perfectionist?

Like many artists, he doesn't know when to leave his work alone, and has added some things to the SE's that were not needed. But, most artists overdo it at some points in their career.
George's mistakes are just talked about more because his work is so popular.

AKA it's a silly nonprofitable idea it Won't be profitable because they never have been (disregard the fact that it's never been done) so we won't do it and if you do...we won't support it... but if it makes money we Sure would like to help with the other ones :whatever:

Pretty much.

Also, **** all the PC **** with the prequel characters and their supposed racist undertones. it's absurd. If they all had lily-white accents or British accents then he's be accused of having no diversity. For every Jar-Jar or Watto or Nute Gunray, there's a Mace Windu or a Bail Organa. Besides, even though Jar-Jar was a failed attempt to rip off Kurosawa's Kyoami the Fool character from Ran, Watto and Nute were both great characters and served their roles well. And it's stupid with Avatar as well. Of course the Na'vi are American Indians, so what? The issue with Jar-Jar isn't that he's a stereotype, it's that he has an important part and is not a deep enough character to make it work. His bit in the booma questioning the Force was the only part where he came close to serving the role that Kyoami did in Ran of taking apart the pretensions of the main characters.

I learned years ago how pointless it is to argue with a Lucas apologist. So I shall simply say feel free to do your own research (though I'm guessing you can find definitive proof to everything I've said and you'd still come up with ways to defend Lucas) :oldrazz:

Apologist? How about you just call a spade a spade and call your self a Lucas hater. :o

Which it's fine to hate Lucas, but just be honest about it. There's filmmakers and artists and musicians I can't stand, and I just straight up say it. I troll Frank Miller as hard as Lucas haters hate on Lucas, but I don't try to disguise it, I just hate the SOB.

exactly what i was trying to point out. he calls the guy an apologist when he was calling him out on **** that he wouldn't prove. i don't claim to be Lucas' biggest fan but the good of the Star Wars universe highly outweigh the few bad things.

I think George is simply stating the truth, can't hate the man.

Back to the room. It would be cool if george lucas was black though, you gotta admit it. :)

Yeah and even if you flat-out hate the prequels or the Special editions or Lucas himself, just be straight up about it.

There is a huge lack of diversity among action/fantasy filmmakers, that is for certain. That's part of why the FF movies were a disappointment-imagine had FOX stayed out of the picture and Tim Story had made FF movies as good as Iron Man I was-it could have been a game changer. There needs to be some fresh faces and a new perspective for fantasy films.

Haha, I don't think Lucas' chick being black makes any difference. The guys that created South Park, Parker and Stone, their wives are asian and black respectively, so I don't know if they feel that gives them some kinda pass or what.

The Pope couldn't give them a pass.

That never gives anyone a pass, tbh.

I don't think GL is racist, however.

So what happens if this movie does good at the box office? Or better yet, what happens if it flops? Does Hollywood come back and say, I told you so! If this movie tanks do we blame ourselves for supporting it on forums and social networks but not taking the time to actually drop the $10.00 to go see it?
Do we blame the marketing people for not knowing what they are doing?

racism is an extremely serious charge to make. while i wouldnt necessarily doubt the legitimacy of lucas' words, i would like to see more evidence than just take him at his word. i mean, having seen the trailer, its entirely possible all the studios just recognized this movie was gonna suck.

If it flops we get an I Told You So and it's business as usual...

If it does well it will be a fluke but they may raise the green ceiling on a few black projects...

Actually Hollywood's lack of support over 10-15 mill without Tyler Perry's name on it it is Across the board true... And any budget even approaching that is independently funded Doubt it? Find me one all black movie (That's not a Comedy, Melodrama or, Hood Drama) with a budget of over 20 mill... I'll wait...

The budget was 58 mill. No Major White Roles. Hollywood would laugh at James Cameron if he suggested such a thing...

The complete lack of any All Black movies within 30 million dollars of his budget is a pretty good indicator that he May be right about it...

(Also the words of any Black Filmmaker that has tried to go through the Hollywood system to get their All Black over 15 million dollar major motion picture made in the last hundred or so years they may know a thing or two about it)

He did have a plan for at least 6 movies.
Actually he planned for 9. Harrison Ford and Mark Hamil brought this up in an interview back in 1980.

Haha, c'mon Matt! Just admit defeat. :cwink:

I really wish the future of big budgeted black movies wasn't riding on this project.

I'm certian it won't see a profit.

Apparently, from reading this thread....if you like Lucas, you are a deluded apologists who doesn't face facts.....if you hate Lucas, you are a free thinker who doesn't follow the crowd.

Personal opinions are not allowed or tolerated.

One would have to be seriously naive to think there's no racism or sexism in hollywood. Why would that industry be the one exception to that universal rule?
