The media focuses on him because they know it's click bait, that parrots will then spread and share even if to tirade against him.
The "attention" (which for example includes even here this thread constantly bumped as a symptom of that) definitely enables a crazy action like auctioning the gun, which by all reason should have no value, but because people apparently need to talk about it (again proof is right here whenever this thread is bumped), he knows he can profit off it.

A "star" in the sense that sometimes people are thrust onto the national stage and seem to be able to handle it with grace and dignity as well as attempting to use that status for something halfway decent. Zimmerman is def not one of those people. nobody is making that argument. But he could have handled the attention he received in a much better way and instead has chosen to do all the crazy thinks that keep getting media attention.
