Ghost Rider: Movie Reviews

The only thing I liked about this movie were the scenes with Ghost Rider himself. Other than that, abysmal. Still better than Elektra. But that's like saying getting puked on his better than getting crapped on.

^After a few re-watches i actually really like Cage's performance. Some of the subtle little things he does are great IMO. And i think Eva, Peter and the guy who plays Barton Blaze are all good as well.

Question,
After Blaze stops roxanne on the freeway and they plan their 8pm date at her hotel lounge and she drives away, the crowd of people run up to blaze as hes standing on the road and he says something to them 3 times....What is he saying??

I've listened many times and can't figure it out.

He says "300 hundred feet.......thankyou........300 hundred feet."

He's referencing the jump he has just made.

I thought he said, "Yes, I've just jumped 300 feet, now who wants to touch me?"

:woot:

is the extended cut DVD as superior to the regular cut as im hearing?

I felt the extended cut was a little smarter, but that's about it. It's not like the Daredevil Director's Cut, which was way better than the theatrical one.

There's a thread all about the Extended Cut around here somewhere.

:yay:

Its a little better, but it doesnt make any huge difference. Some things, like Blackheart being able to walk on hallowed ground, are explained, so it does help the movie out.

The only thing I liked about the movie was the first transformation. Every thing else I disliked. I wasn't a big fan of the casting. The whole movie just had way too much of a cheezy feel to it.

Welcome Freakout.

Believe it or not, but 'cheesy' is a word Mark Steven Johnson used to describe what he was going for. Wish to God he hadn't.

I agree. The transformation was my favorite part, the 1st and last ride weren't bad either, everything else was just...ugh.

Yeah, he just needed to tone it down, saying that though, it does fit with the early Blaze stories very well.

GHOST RIDER movie review #2

By Seamus Smith

Director: Mark Steven Johnson
Cast: Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Peter Fonda, Wes Bentley,
& Sam Elliott

Original Release Date: 2007

Scores:
Technical: 35
Story: 20

Overall Score: 20%

Young stunt motorcyclist, Johnny Blaze, sells his soul to Mephistopheles (Fonda) in order to save his dying father. When Johnny is betrayed in the deal, he flees the life he knew, leaving behind his true love, Roxanne.
Years later, Johnny Blaze (Cage) is the world’s premiere stunt man on a bike. Crash after horrible crash, Blaze comes out unscathed. He crosses paths with Roxanne (Mendes), now a local TV reporter. Just when things seem to be on an upswing for Johnny Blaze, Mephistopheles reappears. He orders Johnny to become the “Ghost Rider”— a flaming skulled, leather wearing,
bounty hunter of hell. His mission: to hunt down and kill, Blackheart (Bentley), who with the help of one thousand lost evil souls, wants to bring Hell to Earth.
Let me start out by saying that I grew up reading comics and always thought the character of Ghost Rider was a cool one. And also, in comic movies I expect some level of cheesiness and that I’m not going to have to think too hard. Well, Ghost Rider had more cheese than a mouse could digest, and I found it only made think to myself, “should I finish watching this?”

Let’s start with a screenplay that every line was so on the nose, I wondered if a four year old wrote it. That being said, I tried to cut the actors some slack, as they delivered awful dialogue. But, the performances were mediocre at best and down right laughable for the most part. I do not feel Nic Cage was cast well at all in this film—he is much better suited playing social
outcastes, than action heroes. Eva Mendes and Peter Fonda were uninspired, but seemed the most consistent. Sam Elliot played in essence the same role that he always does—the mysterious cowboy with a heavy drawl. But, the award for worst performance certainly went to Wes Bentley as the white faced over-the-top anti-Christ.

For a film with a considerable budget, Ghost Rider had cheap looking production design, uninspired cinematography, generic special effects, and hackneyed direction. I found myself thinking that I had not seen a comic hero movie this bad, since Daredevil. Turns out they were both products of the same writer-director, Mark Steven Johnson. Who in Hollywood is green-lighting this guy?

So to remain somewhat fair, it’s only right that I point out the only strength of this film. The stunt work was all right, with one particularly good motorcycle crash at the beginning.

ironically, their first reviewer gave it an 82%:

Ghost Rider is based on the Marvel comic book of the same name; it is the story of Johnny Blaze a motorcycle stunt rider who makes a deal with the devil to save the life of someone very close to him. The only catch is that the deal is for his soul. When it’s time to cash in Johnny Blaze is transformed into the Rider, and whenever nightfalls and evil is present he will become the Rider. Changing into that of a flaming skeleton he rides his motorcycle and uses spectacular powers to battle evil.

With stunning visual effects it’s no wonder this movie was #1 for so long. The story was very well written and very true to the comic book. Watching the transformation of Johnny Blaze into Ghost Rider for the first time was wonderful, and adding Peter Fonda as the devil was fantastic, I don’t think any other actor could have done such a convincing job for this movie. Nicholas Cage also did a great job playing Johnny Blaze.

...Ghost Rider is an instant comic book classic. With a story line that is only surpassed by its amazing visual effects it will definitely make it’s way into my collection.

This pretty much is a good example of the "Love it or Hate it" relationship viewers have of this movie.

^I'd say more of a 6.5/10 for me now, there are still some parts of the movie i just LOVE.

There are some good scenes, the transformation could have been better but it was still cool...the 1st and last rides with Ghost Rider...the rest I could do without.

So many missed opportunities though...Blackheart...Caretaker, the Fallen...Mephisto..etc...

For how annoyed I am sometimes when I think how good this movie could have been....I'd give it a 0 out of 10...on a good day when I skip through most of the movie to watch Ghost Rider...a 7 out of 10.

Actually i watched it again last night and it still remains a 7/10 for me, i honestly do enjoy the movie every time i watch it, just wish some things would have been a lot different.

it was literally one of the the worst movies i've ever seen. I had high hopes for it, but it let me down. I would've given it a 0 if I could. Just terrible.
