Action-Adventure Gladiator Sequel | Paramount

If the early buzz for this movie ends up being accurate than I can definitely see it surprising this November in a similar way that Maverick did 2 years ago but it's going to take some great WOM.

I think it was smart of them to focus so much on Denzel in the trailer though because from a marketing perspective he's easily going to be the biggest draw for this outside of the spectacle and the fact that it's a sequel to one of the most beloved and acclaimed films of all-time.

I respect the old master for still doing it his way, When old man Scott cooks properly, he cooks! Very few modern directors can keep up. I’m hoping this is good. I also laugh my arse off seeing some folks outrage over no Russell Crowe. That man is a great actor, but his waistline is a thing of the past. Lawd. Ain’t no way.

Besides that, his character is dead. Did they want to introduce a Lazarus Pit or something?

Give the people what they want. :o

Hey, we almost got a movie where the gods bring Maximus back to life and he lives through all of the major wars of history! So, we could have gotten something bananas :o

He hasn't really cooked properly since The Martian, which came out eight years ago.

Also, Napoleon was a disjointed bloated mess. Totally directionless.

You're forgetting All the Money in the World and The Last Duel, which received a generally positive reception from critics even though they didn't light up the box office but given the subject matter of those two movies I don't think anyone was expecting them to be major hits anyway.

But Scott has always been inconsistent that way between his “hits”. After Blade Runner, he had Legend, Someone to Watch Over Me and Black Rain before he hit big again with Thelma and Louise. Almost a decade - and that’s putting into consideration that Blade Runner was a critical and commercial disaster at the time.

Then after Thelma and Louise it almost another decade of disappointments in 1492, White Squall and GI Jane before Gladiator hit.

He’s been consistent this way his entire career lol

The Scott brothers are prolific directors. They both have their share of missteps but their ratio of good to bad is worthy of praise considering the classics they've made along the way.

I love Legend and Black Rain.

I wouldn't even argue that while The Martian was a good movie, both critically and commercially successful, and had a tight script, directing-wise it still felt a bit lackluster to me. It didn't had the energy that some of his films had up until the early 00s.

Funny how this and Wicked are basically identical in runtime and both release the same day.
