Action-Adventure Keanu Reeves to lead '47 Ronin'

All my problems with the movie has nothing to do with the ethnicity of the actors and more to do with the laboured pacing and awful script. The biggest problem with 47 (imho) is the movie is just boring.

Caved in and went to see this.

Not nearly as bad as I though it might be and has one or two great action set pieces. You can tell there was a better movie which has been hacked up and bits added and subtracted but it still looks great, a bit slow in places as mentioned but studio interference probably didnt help this.

Its a bit of a shame as it really could have been something special and would be interesting to see a directors cut (which will probably never happen) but I thought Sanada was good and even Keanu wasnt as annoying as usual.

Meh I guess some really hated it more than me I guess, people I watched it with seemed to like it too.

i'm super intrigued by the visuals and the clips that i have seen. from what i can tell with the reviews it sounds like the story and characters are where the movie falls incredibly flat, and so i'm wary cuz i've seen my share of movies in the theater where my eyes and aesthetic sensibilites were indulged but every other part of me was bored to tears.

i will definitely check it out on blu-ray, though. if movie tickets were cheaper i might try to go see it. kind of have to pick my battles, really want to see Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle, Her...

Yeah I can see your point, there are better films to see in the cinema at the moment, and this is not as good as it could have been but visually its one of the best films I have seen this year its just a shame the rest isnt quite up to standard.

The action is great though and the way the Ronin take over the castle is really well done.

But I would deffo check it out on blu-ray or tv in the future, wasnt a complete waste of time to me anyway.

I can't believe a studio would put $200M into this kinda movie.
Disney put over $200 million into The Lone Ranger, a freaking western. Nothing surprises me when it comes to studios these days. Besides, I can see how this COULD have been good if the execution were better.

Yeah, that is kind of shocking. This genre of film isn't a surefire success. I guess they thought they had another 300 on their hands, only set in Japan.

The Hollywood system is a stubborn beast because it keeps happening again and again.

A lot of the times, the problems could've been fixed in pre-production. Universal green lit 47 Ronin knowing that Keanu's role was small. They signed off on that. Then why complain about the size of his role when it was done filming?

It's because the middle management the guys whose jobs are suppose to read scripts..but don't (assistants and interns do it, and then take down notes), than the middle guys pass it along to the head guys who then green lights the project.

It's an outdated broken system.

Wasn't this like Keanu's first film in a few years?

I thought this was funny...

Just bought the blu ray. Yeah, this movie could have been better, but I dug it for what it was. I wish there was a commentary with the director. I wanna know more about the troubled production. I doubt the studio would have let him talk about though.

Yeah I thought it was so much better than expected. It had time to develop each character and the acting was pretty damn good.

It's just English on mine. Special features were a bit lacking. Fluffy, promotional stuff about how everyone who worked on the film is the best person ever. I did like that they talked about the giant samurai. The guy that played him is 7'7"! He also played the Oni Kai fights while he's a slave.

Watched this tonight. After following the troubled production of this thing I was expecting a megaturd to be unleashed but much to my surprise the final product was pretty entertaining. I guess I would give it a C+

Man am I ever tired of that crap. I want to know interesting filmmaking trivia, not listen to how everyone got along and became besties.

It was an okay movie, some of it just didn't make any sense and it just wasn't a well thought out movie. It just reminded me too much of Elektra for some reason.

I kinda liked it. It had some serious pacing and story issues and the dialogue wasn't the best, but overall, I liked the two main characters (Keanu and Hiroyuki), really enjoyed Rinko as the sexy evil witch, and loved some of the creature designs, sets and costumes. Shame it was such a huge bomb.

Hey don't blame the interns and assistants!

I mean, this script got a lot of buzz online for some reason.

Also, I mean TRANSCENDENCE was also hot Blacklist script and it got dumped $100 million into. The script itself after actually reading it, was very weak IMHO. Not sure what all the buzz was about and who actually evaluates the black list scripts.

Just saw this, and it wasnt nearly as bad as the critics or some other people would have you believe. Yeah it was slow in parts, and you can tell the movie was hacked up as things seems to jump everywhere. But there were some really good moments in the movie too.

The cinematography was stunning, and Hiroyuki Sanada and Rinko Kikuchi were 2 stand outs in a very good cast, Keanu was good if you like him in movies. There were some great action set pieces as well.

Its just a shame we will never get to see the proper movie, and I hope Rinsch gets more jobs in the future as you can tell the guy has potential. Far from the best movie I have ever seen, but also far from the worst.

6/10.

where are the two versions of the movie? the english version and the foreign?

is there a making of on the bluray where they show how they filmed the movie twice?

Yeah, I agree with this. It could have been better but it's far from the horrific crapfest it was made out to be.

Now 300: Rise of an Empire... that movie is a horrific crapfest that deserved to bomb like a nuclear warhead being dropped on a M. Night Shyamalan production. But it was a hit and will get a sequel because slow motion and loincloths.

I recently watched 47 Ronin and I, Frankenstein and you know what? To me they are not the horrific crapfest some had said they were. I enjoyed both movies a lot for what they were. Comic book adaptation and a fantasy take on one of the greatest accounts of human strength and devotion. Where they perfect? No, but they were both highly entertaining. I understand both movies were failures on the cinema but 47 Ronin is probably the closest we will ever get to a Ninja Scroll movie. Shame we didnt support both movies for what they were.

^I agree about 47 Ronin, but I, Frankenstein, while it entertained me, wasnt a very good movie. I really wish they had left out all of the gargoyle stuff and just had Adam as a monster hunter, I think all that stuff really hurt the film.

But 47 Ronin wasnt nearly as bad as the critics made out.
