I like that family. Hope they show up again next season.

They need to have Pichu reconcile with the family, and show them having dinner, maybe with Liberty as their terrified guest.

It's supposed to be a fictionalized version I think, not based on any real person. They also wanted to show how GLOW came together and not just jump right into how they are professionals.

Yes, that is the case. It seemed like Sheila is based on Dementia and Machu Picchu is inspired by Mt. Fiji, but I couldn't see many other characters that I remembered. I don't mind blending fact and fiction, but the show skews heavily to the latter. Plus, some of the sex scenes were overly gratuitous. I was more entertained by the GLOW documentary.

Holy ****, I only now just realized Welfare Queen is the actual wrestler Awesome Kong. She must be a good asset to have on the cast.

Finished it last night, it gets a solid 9/10. I thought it was interesting how it starts out with Alison Brie as the main star in ep 1, but turns out she's sharing the main spotlight with Betty Gilpin and Marc Maron.

This was really enjoyable, in no short part due to Alison Brie. She manages to create a character who you want to root for despite having done some shady **** and holding some annoying tendencies. Damn good performances from Maron and Gilpin, notably, with good supporting work from the rest of the ensemble in giving you some variation. I'd like to see a second season (though I figured things to pretty much be wrapped up at season's end for this to be a one and done).

I didn't fully recognize her at first, but kept remarking that she looked familiar. It didn't click until I read 'Kia Stevens' somewhere. Good number of cameos.

This was good, the characters are likeable, even when they arent being perfect people, and isnt afraid to poke fun at a lot of things that deserve to be laughed at, very clever and smart script.

Would check out season 2 for sure.

I enjoyed the show. Hopefully there will be another season.

The Ku Klux Klan bit was really funny.

I remember Kate Nash as another one of those Brit performance arts school musicians that got popular off myspace years ago. First time I've seen her act and she is surprisingly good.

I was racking my brain trying to figure out where I knew her from.....the last thing I was expecting was Kate bloody Nash! She was quite impressive alright.

I think the cast as a whole were excellent and made up for the pedestrian storytelling.

The GLOW crown changing three times smelt like Russo booking to me.

Considering the show uses a lot of character composites, and since it seems the people working on the show have some smark-like knowledge of the wrestling business, I wouldn't put it past them to bring in a character based on Russo at some point. An obnoxious New Yawker writer who tries to screw everything up, then comes back in a different season as a born-again judgmental evangelical. He'd be a great antagonist over multiple seasons.

...and then he dons a dress and books himself to win the crown.

Haha, that might actually be a good storyline.

I wonder if they will do a plotline that mirrors real history, with Bash and Sam having creative differences that are so bad that Bash takes half the roster to form another wrestling promotion.

Know very little about the real GLOW, but the one on this series is quite entertaining. Finished this a few days ago and still smirking about it. It has a lull in the middle, but it begins strong and ends strong. All of the cast is excellent, and that seventh episode with the Klan vs. Welfare Queen was... so '80s in all the best and worst ways I got dizzy.

Alison Brie is great as per usual, but Marc Maron really also has surprised me. He is fantastic in this show. All around, a solid start and it has inspired me to look up the real history of the show that inspired it.

They have a documentary which you can find on netflix.

Not just any wrestler, either. She is arguably the most iconic women's wrestler outside WWE in the last 30 years (the only other contender would be her long time friend and former storyline nemesis, Gail Kim).

Easily one of the best actual wrestlers of her day, even at her size (and she was much bigger than she is now). And, as you can tell from her performance in this show, she was fully committed to her character.

Hopefully she starts getting more acting work, because she's retired as an in-ring performer.

That's why I didn't recognize her, she's so incredibly normal in GLOW.

Binge watched this last weekend and it was very enjoyable. Maron and Brie were fantastic and had great chemistry. My favorite bit had to be the back to the future revelation. It was also nice to see the show celebrated the cheesiness of wrestling rather than look down at it. Very refreshing.

After reading that the show picked up steam near the middle, I decided to finish the season. While there was still too much drama that really didn't advance the plot effectively, the show finally began to focus on the concept of putting GLOW together as an entity. I wouldn't mind a 2nd season if they writers work out some of the kinks.
