'Simpsons' Creator Readying Animated Comedy for Netflix

The mystery series would be Matt Groening's follow-up to 'Futurama' and 'The Simpsons.'

Netflix is looking to The Simpsons mastermind for its next animated series.

The Simpsons creator Matt Groening is prepping an animated series for the streaming service, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Details about the concept are being kept under wraps but insiders say it could earn a two-season pickup for a total of 20 episodes (which would certainly help with the lead time required to produce an animated show).

The comedy would be Groening's follow-up to Futurama and The Simpsons, the latter of which ranks as TV's longest-running series with more than 500 episodes.

The Groening news comes as Netflix continues to expand its roster of animated series. The streamer has BoJack Horseman, F is for Family and Dr. Seuss entry Green Eggs and Ham.

Netflix declined comment.
Checked out on Simpsons a long, long time ago, but this could be promising.

The spiritual successor of both the Simpsons and Futurama by Groening?

Well he's done modern times (Simpsons) and future times (Futurama) what if this show's set like in a Flintstones style past times. :awesome:

I already know this thread will turn anti-Simpsons as a knock on Groening but eh I'm interested and will be keeping up with this.

If it's half as clever as Futurama was, I'll definitely be a fan. Every time I watch a Futurama episode there's some little line of dialogue or visual gag that I never noticed before.

I'm down. If it's anywhere as good as Futurama then I'm fine.

I always wanted to see what Seth mcfarlane's flinstones would have been like...

just bring back Futurama!

either way, ill check it out. hope it's good and it has what made Futurama and early Simpsons so special

Netflix is attracting all the biggest names.

They have big bucks these days, and I'm almost certain they allow creators a great deal more control than the regular TV studios. The appeal of being able to develop what you want, the way you want it, with minimal oversight can't be understated. And most of the Netflix shows are pretty popular, so it's a good formula!

Yeah, I'm glad their business model is so successful.

I've loved Netflix since the beginning and now they're killing it!

I'm still a Simpsons fan. /shrug

Huge Futurama fan. Can't wait to see what he's got. I have a feeling it'll be weak, though. I don't know why, but I just do.
