Starting January 9th, site maintenance is ongoing until further notice, but please report any other issues you may experience so we can look into.

    We apologize for the inconvenience.

Goku did study in DB, sort of :P

We know he is not illiterate we just don't care for the whole high school subplot.

how many times were scenes like this put in the manga? how many times were scenes like this put in the cartoons?

Batman once wore a rainbow suit back in his early comic book years, but that doesn't mean we would ever want to see that on the big screen.

I know, but some made a huge big deal about this, not me

and i post this for those who dont know this part, in other forums i read they think Goku dont even read; and what Master Roshi make Goku read is funny:

Ummmm, no Bob please, moaned Margaret, Mamma is coming home soon. But Bob only run his hands down.....

Krillin: ................

i was expecting some lols, i guess is only funny to me

Im sure Goku`s school scene will be over 10 mins into the movie

Yeah probably, I dont know whats all the fuss about.

but if that's the case, then why include it at all? Why bore us to hell for 10mins with on of the most uninspired and unoriginal settings in modern film?

To..carry the story along?

No it wont. The setting has been done, everybody already knows whats happening. the highschool setting is guaranteed to rub off as a Spider-man ripoff and damage the movie from the get-go. it provides nothing fresh and nothing anybody wouldn't already expect.

If the scenes are so short, then why bother? Its obviously unimportant for the character and little or nothing to do with the plot. There's no need for it.

The source material is original and a much better concept. The audience would appreciate stuff that they haven't seen and critics would prefer it over cliches.

Theres a difference between his martial arts teachers giving him some literature to read and him being a teenage going to highschool. If they had said the character was gohan, there wouldnt even be a problem(I can buy this guy as gohan)

Even if it's only 10 minutes of background character establishing, it's still a huge difference: you simply don't have the same character and personality if he's supposed to be largely uneducated, as opposed to a high schooler.

Whether changing Toriyama's original version of Gokuh's youth to this one, that's another issue entirely. But one way or the other, a few minutes of character background description are probably necessary for a story like this.

I don't remember, but isn't the thing he gives them to read some kind of porn type magazine?

Either way, Goku in highschool is probably going to be the least of this movie's problems.

This movie is obviously just cashing in on the Dragon Ball name and will have almost nothing to do with the manga/anime.

Excatly also I wouldnt be surprised if Goku was an outcast and was madly in love with the most popular girl in school Chi-Chi.

that would be something, but im hoping it isn't like this.

Goku goes to school falls for the most popular girl
gets pick on by a bully
joins a Martial art because the bully was in it
Compelte in a Martial art Tornament just to beat the bully
beats the bully
Fights Piccollo who was the host
wins and becomes Champion

Wait that almost eminds me of Karate Kid, Nevermind
