Can any of you wonderful people help me win a bet?

My brother is certain that when he saw Goldeneye in the cinema the end credits stated that Bond would return in a movie called Aquator.

Now ... I understand that for a time that name was being mentioned but I'm sure it never actually made the screen ..... Did it?

When this movie came out in 1995, I saw it 5 times in the theatre because I loved it so much, and I was only 9 years old.... and I'm telling you, the end credits did IN FACT say "Aquator". I don't know why it said that, but it did, and the movie never got made.

Your brother is right.

They stopped naming the next Bond film after The Spy WHo Loved Me said Bond would return in For Your Eyes Only. Since then the credits have only said "James Bond will Return."

Wasn't Aquator the working name of the Tomorrow never dies screenplay? I'm sure it is, maybe your bro was right?

That's not true. At the end of FYEO it says, "James Bond will return in Octopussy." And, the end of Octopussy it says, "James Bond will return in A View To A Kill."

It was License to Kill to be the first to say "James Bond Will Return."

Oh, I believe you.

The title was then changed to, 'Tomorrow Never Lies' (which was cooler).

And then finally, 'Dies'.

And what a great film it is.

I have a Thunderball credits question. Why did they change the original (or VHS) ending of Thunderball?

Supposedly, it said Bond would return in For Your Eyes Only, so they had to edit that sequence in subsequent airings (most notably the plane disappearing and reappearing). However, on the DVD version, they altered Barry's score as well.

I was quite disappointed to say the least! I enjoyed the VHS ending

I wish I could answer your question but I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't recall Thunderball ever ending with "James Bond will return in For Your Eyes Only." To my knowledge, OHMSS was supposed to be the next Bond film. There is even interviews from that time in which Connery said that. You can search online if you wish.

I think they changed it to You Only Live Twice because it served better as an exit film for Connery.

It seems that OHMSS was meant to be filmed many times. First after Goldfinger, and then again after Thunderball. Very interesting stuff

Interesting indeed. I guess they knew that they had a good story.

If you hunt through that OHMSS site, an interesting point is brought up.

FYEO was directed by John Glen. John Glen was a second unit director on OHMSS and protige (some would say) of Peter Hunt. Thus, it brings more credence to the FYEO PTS. Glen always felt OHMSS needed a payoff so to speak, or resolution to the Blofeld/Traci arc, so he addressed this notion in FYEO, even though DAF had dealt with the subject (in some regards anyways.)

And thus a new PTS scene was edited where FYEO begins where OHMSS ends. It's fanboyism, however, it's still intriguing to speculate and imagine. It was an interesting bridge between the two scenes nonetheless.

Thanks for the input.

I suppose it was only on the cinema print of the movie??
