Goonies Series in Development for Disney+

I'll only care about this if the original cast is involved. Wanting a Goonies 2 has been a guilty pleasure of mine for a long time.

Its about re-enacting the original movie.

I've seen this episode of American Dad.

I could see Sean Astin, Josh Brolin and Martha Plimpton coming back since they are the only ones of the entire cast still working.

we thought the same about Tom Hanks and Turner & Hutch

Sloth is going to be interesting to see this time around.

I think it’s more interesting that Disney is doing this. Could’ve sworn Goonies was a WB property.

Amblin is still independent. So while WB may own the original movie, being the distributor, they do not own the IP. Think of the Star Wars situation before the Fox buyout.

Is there any way of recapturing the original magic or was it a product of its era and uniquely suited to that?

With all these nostalgia kids movies like Afterlife, It, and Super 8, I'm surprised it took them this long.

Bumped after seeing Ke Huy Quan in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

His acting comeback means one step closer to him returning as Data if that is the plan.

…but hopefully not as Short Round

Short Round should have cameoed at Indy's wedding in the last movie, same with Sallah. Yeah, I said it. :o

So if all the stars aligned and Brolin, Astin, and the rest of the kids from the original returned for this, what would you all prefer? The Goonies as adults going on a new adventure (basically a family friendly It: Chapter 2) or the kids of the original Goonies becoming the "next generation"?

Both at the same time.

The Goonies adults taking their Goonies kids on a not very safe adventure.

great to hear your opinion, too…

Antsy with dreaded anticipation. This could be awesome - or it could be f---cked.
What I would really want would be a continuation. Have the next generation kids go on an adventure, then have their parents have to follow to try and save/help them.
But either way they go, it will be hard to try and recapture the feel and energy of the original. It can be done, but ti would be difficult.

Yeah, sounds awful. Basically it’s a bunch of kids in a small town who recreate The Goonies shot-for-shot. So like a meta remake. As a series!

And let me guess. As they shoot, they find out The Goonies was actually real and not just a movie finding One Eyed Willy’s pirate ship for real and all that. Blech.

Sounds like a pass for me too. A little too meta that they will probably turn Goonies into a pseudo-documentary.

A better idea would've been to make a movie or show about the kids who made a shot-for-shot remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark since, y'know, that was an actual cool thing that happened in real life.
