But the general public didn't know about the imposter, that's why everyone thought Bats killed the Joker. His rogues know that Batman wouldn't have killed the Joker but nobody else really knows that.

I think Bermejo's the best but in terms of people currently/recently who've done Batman, Kubert is tops in my book too.

The issue was alright, standard set-up issue at most with a really dumb plot convinience. "Oh snap batman, you got rid of all crime, lets take a vacation to London where you will no doubt find something Batman worthy there". I think you guy proclaiming this issue the second coming of christ should wait until you know, somehting actually happens.

Just read it today. Good issue and a good start to a new run on Batman.

Kubert did a pretty good job. Something seems a little different though, and not because he had been such a Marvel mainstay...just seems different. But decent, none the less.

Good writing by Morrison. Though I kind of still miss Mahnke on the artwork.

batman wasting the joker.....don't like it at all. then after he does it at pt blank, the joker survives? if you're going to do it, then kill the man. b/c no way in hell i can believe that batman misses at that range (so will smarter criminals)

Try actually reading the book (you know, comics have dialogue bubbles, not just pictures, slick) before you complain. Batman didn't shoot the Joker; a cop dressed up as Batman did.

Not only was it obvious in the GIGANTIC SPLASH PAGE WHERE BATMAN SWOOPED DOWN but Gordon actually came out and said that it was an ex-cop, even while recovering from the Joker gas.

I was hoping there would be more Joker in it...and I would have actually liked to have seen the cop go nuts and think he was Batman, I think they could have made the first 5 pages of this thing a really interesting stand alone story on it's own...the Langstrom continuity errors pissed me off too, but I can deal with the ******ed superboy punched a wall explanation I guess, although it also seems to have retconned his son totally out of exisistence...nothing really happened, but it was a good set up, well written, good art

Half-intelligent or not, rogues (aside from the big guys) don't know a damn thing about Batman. Do they keep record of how good a marksman he is? Did they get every detail about where and how Batman went about shooting the Joker? Or are they just a little nervous because he apparently shot the guy and all they have on him is rumour and hearsay? You know, just what they always have on him.
Want to try wrapping your head around the whole "urban myth" angle?

Anyway, nice issue. Alfred's dialogue was fun as hell.

Well, it seems that right up until the point he got shot, the Joker was convinced he had killed Batman (see avatar) so I'm guessing Joker thought it was the real deal.

He hasn't killed anyone. He allows the general public to think that so that maybe they'll think twice before doing anything illegal. He knows he won't kill, it just makes his job easier when criminals think that he will.

I know, I just never figured that Batman would let people believe he would kill people.
But then again he is all about subterfuge and fear.
