THE BLIND SIDE may be the only movie so far that proves that Bullock can have a hit outside her admittedly mediocre rom-coms but as it was a success for the same studio she's a better bet than pretty much every actress that's been listed since Jolie passed it on.

If the Blind Side qualifies as her best work, then she has one hell of an embarrassing career. Her performance and the movie was complete:barf:

I'm not talking about quality. I'm talking about her ability to pull in an audience without starring in a romantic comedy. THAT is what the studio cares about.

but they tried to get Jolie, Portman among other actresses. I kinda wish they went with Marion Cotillard but it is what it is.

Sandra wouldn't be my first choice either; I just think she got really, really lucky with The Blind Side.

she goes and beats Mirren and streep to win an Oscar and still gets no respect

she is the female tom cruise apparently

I don't understand the hate for Bullock. She may not seem like a great choice as the leading role, but we haven't seen the movie yet let alone entered principal photography. And I think she can hold a movie by herself.

Bullock's a solid actress. I want to see her in more stuff other than romance-comedies or just comedies in general. Gravity could be that pivotal film where she blows away the naysayers; it has the Cuaron and RDJ-in-a-supporting-role factor for it.

She's not the best choice, but I could see her work off of RDJ nicely.

Laderlappen, I can see that you don't like Sandra by your posts. yes, i'm being sarcastic.

I havent been hating on her that much in this thread have I?

I really would have preferred a different actress than Bullock, her and this genre dont appeal to me.

That's an insult to Cruise. She didn't beat those actress, she won simply because she's Sandra Bullock.

^ prove my point once again

no respect this woman gets

kind of sickening

Cruise hasnt even won an Oscar so how can you make the comparisson? He has had way more worthy roles than her to.

^ not there talents i am saying cruise gets no respect either

mountains of madness thread proved this

Yeah but the thing is Cruise deserves the respect he has a very impressive resume, Bullock has one serious dramatic role squished in-between a slew of Rom/Coms. I get that Cruise doesnt get the respect he deserves but that is the story of his career, Bullock got an Oscar for a mediocre role and now deserves respect because of that? Should we respect Halle Berry too?

I'm ehh on Halle but I prefer her over Sandra.

BUT, who knows. I think Cuaron could make it work.

Not really, she's not a good actress, never has been, there's a reason people dont respect her as an actress.

So when all the news articles stress RDJ will have a smaller role, does that mean he's getting he's getting fragged at the start of the film?

You cant compare her to Cruise. Cruise is actually a pretty good actor, some people dont like him because of his personal life.

Cruise and Bullock are miles apart in terms of dramatic work. Bullock may have won an oscar but a BIG part was also due to her constant promotion going to festivals, awards ceremonies etc. THe academy likes to see their nominees go the extra mile and she was rewarded for that. But that's one movie. Cruise has given excellent dramatic performances in more then one movie.

Doesn't change the fact that i still love Bullock.
Her in Gravity. Still not sure because of the fact that she's given one good dramatic performance so far. It seems that WB is looking more at actresses who the general public either knows or will know . Blake Lively will be more famous after Green Lantern whereas Portman is already known but she's get the boost when she's be nominated for Black Swan.

Yeah, but that's an obvious given for studios.

I'm not sure Bullock in a sci-fi film would stick as well as her past career choices.

28 Days
A Time to Kill
Crash
Why are so some hung up thinking she's only capable of Rom-Coms.
Personally I think she's more appealing when she steps outside that box, I kinda hope she gets this. The thought of a Blake Lively or Carey Mulligan in this role is underwhelming, not because of their ability but life experience.
