Great movies you've never seen

I swear, I saw the entirety of Jaws in 57 non-linear parts on TV before I actually sat down and watched the movie from start to finish.

Citizen Kane
Casablanca
Raging Bull
2001: A Space Odyssey
Dr. Strangelove
Easy Rider
Brazil
There Will Be Blood

Clockwork Orange
Any Godfather film
Lots of 30's/40's/50's classics
Original Fright Night (I say this because I am a horror fanatic so this comes to shock to other horror fans)
Goodfellas.

I would say Taxi Driver and Drive, but I recently just watched those and my god are they amazing. How did i live my life not watching Taxi Driver.

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
The Big Lebowski
Pulp Fiction
Goodfellas
Casino
Predator 1 + 2
Alien 1 + 2 + 3

You guys need to go watch more movies.

LOL that's an understatement. I don't know whether I should feel proud or ashamed that I've watched 98% of the movies mentioned in this thread more than once.

North by Northwest
Rain Man
Aguire, the Wrath of God

Errr... can't think of any others.

I never watched classics like Casablanca and Gone with the Wind. It's not to say I don't want to but I have never had a chance.

So.....lets go with Academy Award Winners for Best Picture since 1990.

The English Patient
Million Dollar Baby (although I did see a good portion of it)
Crash
Slumdog Millionaire
The King's Speech
The Artist

The Godfather II

I was bored by the first one (still haven't finish it), then I saw on TV the third one which I found terrible. Really, I have no interest in seeing this film.

The idea that people have seen the Star Wars prequels and not the originals makes me sick.

At 45, I've had a head start over most of you young'uns, so there's not a whole lot of movies listed already that I *haven't* seen.

But there are still some that I'm embarrassed to say I never got around to, but really want to:

Donnie Darko
Raging Bull
Schindler's List
Sunset Boulevard
Citizen Kane
Nashville
The Shawshank Redemption

"Great movies" I have no intention of ever seeing:

any musical
any rom-com
anything directed by Woody Allen

You have no intention of seeing A Nightmare Before Christmas? Shame on you! ;)

I don't think so.
Even though I like most of Burton's other films.

The only movie I ever saw that classifies as a musical is Pink Floyd's "The Wall."

If you like Burton, you should really see it. I think it's his best, even though he did not direct it. Really, give it a try.
And it's less a musical than a dark comedic tale. Do you consider Disney's old school classics as musical?

The Killing
Barry Lyndon
Full Metal Jacket
(I have no excuses)

Kagemusha
Red Beard

Wild Strawberries
Persona
Fanny and Alexander
Hour of the Wolf

McCabe and Mrs. Miller
The Long Goodbye

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore

Any Cassavettes

Nights of Cabiria
La Dolce Vita

Umberto D.

Easy Rider
Midnight Cowboy

Sophie's Choice

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
Peeping Tom
Let the Right One In

Old Boy

Princess Mononoke
Grave of the Fireflies

I'll say this about the IMDB Top 250, as flawed as it is, it's a good tool for finding good films to check out. And reminding you of how many great films there are still to see.

You need to lock yourself in a movie theater for about three weeks and knock all those movies out.

Now.

:hehe: I know! It's awful isn't it?

I mean, I've seen A LOT of movies... But somehow most of the 'essentials' I've simply not bothered with.

I think it's because I feel like I already know them, there so often referenced in pop culture.

Hmm...I wouldn't know. I need to see a movie before I can decide whether it's "great" or not.

I bought Gone With the Wind on Blu-ray, but I haven't bothered to open the packaging yet.

Glad to see people haven't forgotten about LA Confidential (even if it's still stuck on their To See lists).
